        The effect of combined Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch and Eleutherococcus senticosus Max(OPB) extracts on bone mineral density in ovariectomized rats.

        This study was conducted to investigate the preventingeffects of OPB (Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch and Eleuth-erococcus senticosus Max extracts) and combined OPB/Calcium therapy on bone loss in ovariectomized rats. SixtySprague Dawley rats of 12-week-old were divided into eightgroups: OVX (ovariectomized), OPBL (OPB 50mg/kg),OPBM (OPB100mg/kg), OPBH (OPB 200mg/kg), OPBL/CAL(OPBL+CAL), OPBM/CAL (OPBM+CAL), OPBH/CAL (OPBH+CAL) and CAL (Calcium citrate 88.33mg/kg+1α, 25-dihydroxy-vitamin D3 33.33IU/kg). Bone mineraldensity (BMD), bone mineral content (BMC), bone strengthindices and cortical thickness were analyzed by peripheralquantitative computerized tomography (pQCT). pQCTscanning showed that OVX induced a significant decreasein trabecular bone mineral density and bone mineralcontent in the proximal tibia (-36.4±2.4%, -21.8±12.7%).These decreases were significantly prevented by theadministration of OPBM and OPBM/CAL. Cortical BMDand BMC of tibia were slightly enhanced by OPB and OPB/CAL. However there was no significant difference betweenOVX and OPB, OPB/CAL treated group. Bone strengthindices and cortical thickness were not significantly different.Our results suggest that OPB and combined OPB/Calciumtherapy are effective in preventing the development of boneloss induced by ovariectomy in rats.

      • 1-(5-bromo-2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone [SE1] suppresses pro-inflammatory responses by blocking NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways in activated microglia

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Unregulated activation of microglia is a key risk factor contributes to neurodegenerative diseases and suppression of this phenomenon is considered as a potential therapeutic target. The compound isolated from sea horse <I>Hippocampus kuda</I> Bleeler; 1-(5-bromo-2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone [SE1] was characterized for its ability in suppressing LPS mediated activation of murine BV-2 cells. Despite the presence of various active molecular groups in the structure, SE1 has not well explored for its biological activities. The outcome of this study clearly indicated that SE1 inhibited the production of inflammatory mediators; nitric oxide, prostaglandin E<SUB>2</SUB> and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Furthermore, it inhibited the protein and gene expression levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β and interleukin-6. The responsible signaling mechanisms leading to these inhibitions were identified as SE1 mediated blocking of phosphorylation of mitogen activate protein kinase (MAPK) molecules; C-jun-N-terminal kinase (JNK), p38 and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) p65 and p50 subunits. These results suggest that SE1 has the potential to be further developed as therapeutic against neuro-inflammation.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P><P><ce:figure id='f0045'></ce:figure></P>

      • 만성폐쇄성폐질환의 중증도와 폐고혈압 및 폐성심으로 진행과의 상관관계

        Background: From many previous studies, Pulmonary hypertension is the known independent predictive factor of the mortality in COPD. Also pulmonary hypertension is the major cardiovascular complication of COPD and is associated with the progression to cor pulmonale and poor prognosis. Author want to analyze the correlation between pulmonary hypertension and the severity of COPD which are classified by forced expiratory volume in one second, and the extent of progression to corpulmonale. Methods: Retrospectively we investigated the medical records of 118 patients with COPD who had pulmonary function test and echocardiogaphy more than one times during one-year follow-up (from June, 2005 to May, 2006) at respiratory division in chosun university hospital, and then 50 patients were enrolled in this study. We classified the severity from FEVl in pulmonary function test based on the GOLD guideline, also this was comparably analyzed with RVSP, RVIDd, Visual Grading from echocardiography. Results: 16 patients out of 50 were classified as moderate severity, 25 patients were severe, and 9 patients were very severe group. RVSP was higher in more severe groups than less severe groups but when it comes to pulmonary hypertension that RVSP is over 35 mmHg, there was no valid difference lies in those groups. As FEVl decreases RVSP and RVIDd increases, and observed relationship between RVSP which was classified as below 35 mm and above 35 mm groups and visual grading which was classified as normal and dilatated groups revealed valid correlation, Conclusion: As pulmonary function decreases, progression to pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale increases but there was no remarkable difference of prevalence in above moderate severity groups. 연구배경 폐고혈압은 이전의 많은 연구에서 만성폐쇄성폐질환에서 독립적인 사망의 예측인자로 알려져 있다. 또한 폐고혈압은 만성폐쇄성폐질환의 주요한 심혈관계 합병증이며, 폐성심으로의 진행 및 불량한 예후와도 관련되어 있다. 이에 저자는 폐고혈압과 1초간 노력성호기량으로 분류되는 만성폐쇄성폐질환의 중증도 및 폐성심으로의 진행 정도를 비교 분석하여 이들의 상관관계를 밝혀보고자 한다. 방법 2005년 6월부터 2006년 5월까지 1년 동안 본 병원 호흡기 내과에서 폐기능검사와 심장초음파 검사를 각각 1회 이상 시행한 적이 있는 118명에 한하여 의무기록을 후향적으로 조사하여 이 중에서 50명을 대상으로 하였다. 폐기능검사 시행 결과 얻은 1초간 노력성호기량을 바탕으로 GOLD guideline에 따라 중증도를 분류하였으며 이를 심초음파 시행 결과 얻은 우심실수축기압, 확장기말 우심실내부간격, 시각등급과 비교분석하였다. 결과 대상 환자 50명중 16명은 중등증, 25명은 중증, 9명은 최고중증 그룹으로 분류되었다. 우심실수축기압은 중증도가 높은 그룹에서 낮은 그룹에 비해 더 높게 나타났으나 폐고혈압에 해당하는 우심실수축기압이 35 mmHg이상인 환자에 있어사는 각 그룹간에 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았으며, 확장기말 우심실내부간격, 시각등급 또한 중증도와 유의한 차이를 보이지 안항ㅆ다. 1초간 노력성호기량이 감소함에 따라서는 우심실수축기압, 시각등급은 증가하였으며 우심실수축기압을 35mmHg 미만과 이상인 그룹으로, 시각등급을 정상과 확장이 있는 그룹으로 분류하여 비교한 결과에서는 유의한 상관관계를 나타냈다. 결론 폐기능이 감소할수록 페고혈압 및 폐성심으로의 진행이 증가하였으나 폐기능검사에서 중등도 이상의 그룹에서 유병률의 차이는 크지 않았다.

        전위된 상악 견치 및 하악 측절치의 치험례

        Tooth transposition is an anomaly of eruption characterized by the interchanged positions of two adjacent teeth, which is divided into complete and incomplete transposition. There are three common approaches for treating transposition: aligning the involved teeth in their transposed positions, moving them to their correct anatomic position in the arch and extracting one of the transposed teeth. Considerations in treatment plans are esthetic, function, risk of jeopardizing the roots and damaging the supporting structures, position of the root apex, developmental stages of teeth and expected compliance. The presented case reports described one maxillary canine-the first premolar transposition and two mandibular lateral incisor-canine transpositions. The former transposed teeth were arranged in their transposed position, and the latter transposed teeth were rearranged into their normal position. 치아전위란 인접한 두 치아의 위치가 서로 바뀐 치아 위치 이상을 말하며, 치관과 치근의 위치에 따라 완전전위와 불완전전위로 나눌 수 있다. 하악보다는 상악에 편측성으로 호발하며, 특히 상악 견치에서 자주 발생한다. 전위는 발견 시기와 전위된 양상에 따라 치료방법이 달라질 수 있다. 본 증례는 상악 견치와 제1소구치 간의 전위가 일어난 10세 7개월의 환아와 하악 측절치와 견치 간의 전위가 일어난 8세 11개월 환아와 8세 9개월 환아의 교정치료에 대한 것으로 양호한 치료 결과를 얻었고, 증례 별로 치료방법의 차이점에 관한 고찰을 하였기에 이를 보고하는 바이다.

      • 신경섬유종증 환자에게서 발생한 특발성 혈소판 감소증 1예

        Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura is a disease characterized by thrombocytopenia in peripheral blood with positive anti-platelet antibody titer, no splenomegaly, the presence of megakarocyte. The causes of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura were usually related to autoimmune disease, infection and drugs. A 46-years-old man was admitted for evaluation of abdominal mass. He has many cafe-au-lait spots and nodules in almost skin for 30 years. Several years ago, he palpated mass in Lt. inguinal area. hIe has known the abdominal mass after checking abdomen CT in local clinic and visited our hospital for evaluation of abdominal mass. At admission, laboratory tests showed hemoglobin 12.5 g/dL, hematocrit 38.4 %, WBC 5,460 /㎣ (neutrophil 64.5%, lymphocyte 21.7%, monocyte 4.1%, eosinophil 5.4%), reticulocyte 0.7%, Platelet 52,000 /㎣, total protein 6.51 g/dL, albumin 3.80 g/dL, alkaline pohsphatase 161 IU/L, AST 110.7 IU/L, ALT 64.9 IU/L, total bilirubin 0.44 ㎎/dL, BUN 18.4 ㎎/dL, creatinine 0.79 ㎎/dL. Peripheral blood smear showed normocytic normochromic anemia, thrombocytopenia. Bone marrow aspiration smear showed normoplastic myeloid and erythroid precursor. The bone marrow biopsy section shows normocellular marrow (35%) for his age and mildly increasing myeloid cell lineage. We have experienced a case of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in a patient being in neurofibromatosis and therefore reporting it with documentary records. 저자들은 신경섬유종증 환자에서 특별한 원인을 발견할 수 없었음에도 특발성 혈소판 감소증이 발생한 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

      • 韓國産 달팽이의 化學成分에 관한 硏究 : (1) 민달팽이와 달팽이의 無機質 및 아미노酸組成 (1) Mineral Content and Amino Acid Composition of Korean Slug and Korean Land Snail

        민달팽이 및 달팽이의 化學成分을 分析하여 營養學的 價値 및 漢方效果를 究明하기 위한 基礎資料를 얻고자 一般成分, 無機質, 構成아미노酸 및 遊離아미노酸을 分析한 結果는 다음과 같다. 민달팽이 및 달팽이의 蛋白質含量은 各各 11.6%, 14.7%였으며 灰分含量은 2.7% 및 2.1%이었다. 민달팽이의 無機物 중 K이 213.0㎎%로 가장 含量이 많았고, Na, P 및 Ca의 含量은 各各 142.9㎎%, 138.6㎎% 및 129.5㎎% 였다. Cu, Fe, Zn 및 Mn은 微量元素로서 檢出되었지만 Fe含量은 29.63㎎%로 매우 높은 含量이었다. 달팽이의 경우도 K이 288.2㎎%로 가장 그 含量이 많았고, 다음은 P이 173.7㎎%, Ca은 97.2㎎%, Na은 51.4㎎%, Mg은 30.8㎎%이었다. 微量元素 중 Zn 및 Fe含量은 各各 16.58㎎%, 8.64㎎%이었다. 構成아미노酸은 乾物重量으로서 민달팽이의 40.9%였고, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, leucine, arginine, lysine 및 glycine이 全體아미노산의 53.4%로 함량이 많았으며, cystine, methionine 및 hictidine은 그 含量이 적었다. 必須아미노酸 含量은 總아미노산의 33.0%를 차지하였으며, 이와같은 傾向은 달팽이의 경우도 비숫한 傾向이었다. 민달팽이의 遊離아미노酸 중 含量이 많은 것은 arginine, glutamic acid, alanine 및 serine이었고, 이들이 全體 아미노酸의 54.8%이었으며 반면에 methionine, tyrosine은 含量이 적었으며, 全體 遊離아미노酸 含量은 711.3㎎/100g이었다. 달팽이의 遊離아미노酸 중 含量이 많은 것은 alanine, glutamic acid, arginine, lysine이었으며 이들이 全體 아미노산의 53.6%를 차지한 반면 mthionine, tyrosine 및 cystine은 매우 낮은 含量이었으며 全體 遊離아미노酸含量은 1052.2㎎/100g이었다. The proximate compositions, mineral contents and amino acid compositions of Korean slug, Incilaria frusferi, and Korean land snail, Acusta despecta(GRAY), were determined. The contents of protein, lipid and ash in Korean slug were 11.6%, 2.8% and 2.7%, and those from Korean land snail were 14.7%, 2.2% and 2.1%, respectively. Among the minerals in Korean slug, potassium, sodium and calcium were 213.0 mg%, 142.9 mg% and 129.5 mg%, and those from Korean land snail were 288.2 mg%, 51.4 mg% and 97.2mg%, respectively. In the case of trace element in Korean slug, iron, manganese and copper were 29.63 mg%, 11.21 mg% and 1.64 mg%, and those from Korean land snail were 6.84 mg%, 6.85 mg%, and 2.74 mg%, respectively. The protein of Korean slug was composed of glutamic acid and aspartic acid as a major amino acids and considerable amount of leucine, arginine, lysine and glycine. The amount of essential amino acids except tryptophan was 40.5% of total amino acid. The amino acid composition of Korean land snail was similar to those of Korean slug. Among the free amino acid in Korean slug, arginine, glutamic acid, alanine and serine showed high quantity and the sum of these amino acids occupied 54.8% of total free amino acid. While methionine and tyrosine were poor in content. In the Korean land snail, alanine, glutamic acid, arginine and lysine were abundant amino acids, and the sum of these amino acids occupied 53.6% of total free amino acid. The quantities of methionine, tyrosine and cystine were, in contrast, very small.

        차세대 통신 시스템에서 공통적으로 요구하는 소형화, 광대역화, 집적화추세에 따라 RF소자는 광대역화, 소형화, 집적화를 향해 발전하고 있으며 안테나 기술도 현재 추세에 발맞추어 소형화, 능동집적화, 광대역화를 통하여 개발 방향을 모색하고 있다. 본고에서는 현재 추세인 소형 안테나, 능동 안테나와 더불어 최근 관심이 집중되고 있는 임펄스 통신에 이용될 수 있는 초광대역 안테나 기술에 대해 소개한다. The technical trends of the next generation wireless communication are miniaturization, broad-band operation, and integration. Thus, in accordance with this trend, RF devices and components are being developed in such way, and same with the antenna. In this paper, technology of small antenna, active antenna, and ultra wideband antenna, which can be applied to impulse communication system, are introduced.
