      • Development of a Machine Vision System for Automotive Part-Car Seat Frame Inspection

        Nelson S. Andres(Nelson S. Andres),장봉춘(Jang Bong-Choon) 한국자동차공학회 2005 한국자동차공학회 지부 학술대회 논문집 Vol.- No.-

Meeting the growing demand deadlines, reducing the production cost and upgrading the quality control measurements are the reasons why the automotive part manufacturers are venturing into automation. Attaining these objectives is impossible with human inspection for many reasons. Accordingly, the introduction of machine vision system purposely for car seat frame inspection is presented in this study as an alternative for human inspection. This proposal is designed to meet the demands, features and specifications of car seat frame manufacturing companies in striving for increased throughput of better quality. More specifically, this computer-based inspection proposal is designed to perform quality measures to detect holes, nuts and welding spots on every car seat fiame in real time and ensuring these portions to be intact, precise and in proper place. In this study, the NI Vision Builder software for Automatic Inspection is used as a solution in configuring the aimed quality measurements. These quality measurement techniques for visual inspection are optimized through qualitative analysis and simulation of human tolerance on inspecting car seat frames. Furthermore, this study exemplifies the incorporation of the optimized vision inspection environment to the pre-inspection and post-inspection phases using LabVIEW software.

Roles for Public Education in Mental Health Promotion, Prevention of Mental Illness and Treatment of Mental Disorders in Canada

Nelson Connie H.,Nelson R. Neil Korean Society for Health Education and Promotion 2005 보건교육건강증진학회지 Vol.22 No.3

Objectives: The purpose of this paper is to describe the role for public education in mental health promotion, prevention of mental illness and treatment of mental disorders in Canada. Results: A brief history of the changing nature of the way we treat mental disorders in Canada argues for an increasingly critical role for public education. Furthermore, the new understanding of the role of social determinants in prevention of mental illness again necessitates a vital role for public education as the shift in focus moves from exclusively individual-focused health care treatments to creating supportive environments. The roles for mental health public education then become: advocacy for the social determinants of health approach, better understanding of the nature of mental health problems, useful information for self-management, and more knowledge about appropriate treatments. A brief discussion of the structure of the response in Canada provides an overview of national and provincial responsibilities in mental health care with a case study highlighting one community's response to addressing mental disorders. Conclusion : Finally, challenges regarding the most effective educators and the issue of professional expertise embedded in the status quo are discussed.

Analyzing DC and AC Magnetic Field Intensity, Distribution, and Relationship in a Hyundai IONIQ 2016 Electric Vehicle

Nelson A. Enegbuma,Soochan Kim 한국전자파학회JEES 2021 Journal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science Vol.21 No.4

This study aimed to evaluate the direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) electromagnetic field (EMF) intensity and distribution of an electric vehicle (EV). The results revealed that the EV generated DC and AC EMFs, which differed depending on the operation (resting, idling, and driving at speeds of 40 and 80 km/h). A correlation was established between the AC and DC components of the EMF, which was approximately 0.5 when idling and 0.8 at speeds of 40 and 80 km/h. The results obtained were below the harmful limit set by regulatory agencies, specifically the International Commission on Non‐Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). To further contribute to this field of study, the various measurement equipment used in the literature are summarized according to their parameters.

Development of a Leading Performance Indicator from Operational Experience and Resilience in a Nuclear Power Plant

Nelson, Pamela F.,Martin-Del-Campo, Cecilia,Hallbert, Bruce,Mosleh, Ali Korean Nuclear Society 2016 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.48 No.1

The development of operational performance indicators is of utmost importance for nuclear power plants, since they measure, track, and trend plant operation. Leading indicators are ideal for reducing the likelihood of consequential events. This paper describes the operational data analysis of the information contained in the Corrective Action Program. The methodology considers human error and organizational factors because of their large contribution to consequential events. The results include a tool developed from the data to be used for the identification, prediction, and reduction of the likelihood of significant consequential events. This tool is based on the resilience curve that was built from the plant's operational data. The stress is described by the number of unresolved condition reports. The strain is represented by the number of preventive maintenance tasks and other periodic work activities (i.e., baseline activities), as well as, closing open corrective actions assigned to different departments to resolve the condition reports (i.e., corrective action workload). Beyond the identified resilience threshold, the stress exceeds the station's ability to operate successfully and there is an increased likelihood that a consequential event will occur. A performance indicator is proposed to reduce the likelihood of consequential events at nuclear power plants.

Ring-opening Polymerization of Lactides Catalyzed by (Benzoimidazolylmethyl)amine Zinc(II) Complexes

        Nelson W. Attandoh,Stephen O. Ojwach 한국고분자학회 2016 폴리머 Vol.40 No.3

Zinc(II) complexes of (benzoimidazolyl)amine ligands, N-(1H-benzoimidazol-2-ylmethyl)aniline (L1) and N-(1H-benzoimidazol-2-ylmethyl)-2-bromoaniline (L2), [Zn2(L1)2(OBz)4] (1), [Zn₂(L2)₂(OBz)₄] (2) and [Zn(L1)₂(OAc)₂] (3) have been employed in the ring-opening polymerization of lactides. The complexes were found to form active catalysts in the polymerization of the D,L-lactide (D,L-LA) and L-lactide (L-LA) monomers. The polymerization kinetics proceeded via pseudo-first order mechanism with respect to the monomer. Low molecular weight polymers were obtained with relatively narrow molecular weight distribution of 1.30-1.50. The ligand architecture, the nature of the carboxylate anion and solvent system influenced the rate of lactide polymerization reactions. Polymerization reactions performed in methanol exhibited higher rates of reaction than those in toluene. The activation parameters measured for lactide polymerization using 3 were obtained as ΔH°=38.4±0.7 kJmol-1, ΔS°=-167.2±1.8 JK-1mol-1 and are consistent with a highly ordered transition state. The polymers produced were mainly atactic and isotactic.

Characterisation of Three ACC Synthase Gene Family Members during Post-Harvest-Induced Senescence in Broccoli (Brassica oleracea L var. italica)

( Nelson Gonzalez ),( Jose Ramon Botella ) 한국식물학회 2003 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.46 No.4

We investigated the gene expression profiles of different members of the 1-aminocyclopropane-1 -carboxilic acid (ACC) synthase (EC 4.4.1.1 4) gene family in broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. var. italica) during the post-harvest-induced senescence process. Using RT-PCR, three different cDNAs coding for ACC synthase (BROCACS1, BROCACS2 and BROCACS3) were amplified from floret tissue at the start of the senescence process. The three genes share relatively little homology, but have highly homologous sequences in Arabidopsis thaliana, and could be functionally related to these counterparts. Southern analyses suggest that BROC4CS1 and BROCACS3 are present as single copy genes, while there are probably two copies of BROCACS2. All three genes showed different expression patterns: BROCACS1 is likely to be either wound-or mechanical stress-induced showing high transcript levels after harvesting, but no detectable expression afterwards. BROCACS2 shows steady expression throughout senescence, increasing at the latest stages, and BROCACS3 is almost undetectable until the final stages. Our results suggest that BROCACS1 could be required to initiate the senescence process, while BROCACS2 would be the main ACC synthase gene involved throughout the post-harvest-induced senescence. BROUCS3`s expression pattern indicates that it is not directly involved in the initial stages of senescence, but in the final remobilization of cellular resources.

The Effects of Dietary Bioflavonoid (Rutin, Quercetin, and Naringin) Supplementation on Physiological Changes in Molar Crestal Alveolar Bone-Cemento-Enamel Junction Distance in Young Rats

Nelson Wood 한국식품영양과학회 2004 Journal of medicinal food Vol.7 No.2

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of dietary bioflavonoid (rutin [R], quercetin [Q], and naringin [N]) supplementation on physiological molar crestal alveolar bone (CAB)–cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) distances in young male albino rats. The effects of diets supplemented with 0.57% R, Q, or N, at the expense of dextrose, were tested on 40 young rats, divided into four groups, for a period of 42 days. Rat skulls were defleshed, and CAB–CEJ distance was scored according to the modified method of Keyes and Gold (Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol 1955;8:492). Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance, post hoc Tukey’s test, and Spearman’s (R2) correlation. P .05 was used to reject the null hypothesis. The N group demonstrated the lowest CAB–CEJ distance, followed by the R and Q groups (P .001–.05), except in the mandibular lingual region, where the Q group had a lower CAB–CEJ distance than the N and R groups (P .05). The control group showed the largest CAB–CEJ distances. Dietary bioflavonoid supplementation was shown to significantly reduce molar CAB–CEJ distance (P .001–.05) during alveolar development in male young rats.
