Patient-oriented minds and Bill of Rights have brought a lot of POCTs or Waived Tests, which can obviously be threats to the medical technology profession. However, we cannot help but admit the realities and should take some necessary measures to meet the situation. Accordingly we took a survey to find what opinions medical scientists or nurses have against the POCTs. Most of the scientists worried about the reliabilites of test results while nurses were concerned about the ambiguity of their job entities. Taking account of the POCT nature, the scientists should lead the development of POCT menus and have the primanry responsibility to educate or train the POCT perfomers maitaining periodic QCs on all the procedures or equimpments, not paying much attention to the issues who might be the performers.
고등학교 학생의 계열 선택에 대한 연구 : 성별 차이를 중심으로

이 연구는 고등학교 학생들의 계열 선택 양상 및 계열 선택에 영향을 주는 요인에 있어서 성별간에 유의한 차이가 있는지를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 그 결과 자연계열을 선택하는 데 있어 남녀학생에게 조건의 차이가 있음이 발견되었다. 여학생은 자신의 능력과 적성에 상당한 확신을 가지고 있거나 부모님의 기대에 따라 자연계열을 선택하는 반면, 남학생은 직업을 포함한 사회적 조건들을 복합적으로 고려하여 선택하는 경향이 있었다. 이러한 계열 선택에서의 남녀 불균형 문제는 우리 사회 문화 전반적 맥락에 걸쳐있으며, 이를 줄이기 위해서는 여학생에게 직업에 대한 의식을 강화하는 교육이 필요하고, 전통적인 성 역할 고정관념을 깨는 부모교육이 필요하다. In spite of women's increasing enrollment in higher education, women have been concentrated on female-dominated majors which do not require mathematical backgrounds, whereas men have been concentrated on science, engineering which require mathematical background. This study investigated highschool student's choice of curriculum which is based on math and science. The participants of this study were high school students in Seoul. Data were collected by the questionnaire which includes questions on preference of subject matter, career plan, conception of sex differences and demographic factors. Female student who chose the curriculum which was based math and science tended to have strong confidence about their aptitudes, whereas male students who chose the curriculum which was based on math and science tended to have occupational aspiration of their careers. This study suggests policy implications intervention programs which encourage girls‘ better achievement and pursue careers in math.

THis study was carried out to investigate the effect of Spathololbus suberectus Dunn(SS)on the protection of chondral defect and inhibition of osteiclastogenesis. To examine these effecte,we measured the matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)levels in SW1353 chon-drosarcoma cells and performed tartrate-resistant acid phossohatase (TRAP) staining in bone marrow macrophage(BMM)-derived osteoclasts.To investigate the anti-osteoarthritis(OA)effects,we assessed TNF-α-induced MMP-1,-3,-9 and tissue inhibitors of matrix metal- loproteinase(TIMP)expression levels in SW 1353 cells.Also,SS extract inhibiteb the receptpr activator of unclear factor-kB ligand(RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentia- tion. These results suggest that SS extract may have a potential in the treatment of bone loss and chondral defectby suppressing osteoclast differentiation and decreasing the expression of OA factors. Therefore, clarification of the mechanism of the action of SS extract and its active components is needed.

한약재 추출물의 조골세포 분화 및 파골세포 형성에 미치는 영향

천연물 유래의 생약에서 조골세포 증식을 높이면서, 파골세포의 분화 억제에 효과가 있는 시료를 검색하고자 15종의 한약재 추출물의 효과를 검토해 보았다. Mouse calvaria 유래의 osteoblastic cells를 이용하여 세포 생존률 및 ALP 활성을 측정하였으며, 또한 마우스 골수 세포를 이용하여 M-CSF와 RANKL을 처리하여 파골세포의 분화를 유도한 후, 세포 생존율과 TRAP효소활성을 측정하였다. 그 결과, 두충, 곽향, 개다래, 형개, 정공등 추출물은 조골세포 증식 및 ALP 활성를 증가시켰으며, 파골세포 활성을 나타내는 TRAP활성이 억제되는 것으로 확인되었다. 따라서 이 추출물들은 조골세포의 기능을 향상시키는 동시에 파골세포의 기능을 억제하여 골 흡수와 관련된 질환과 함께 골 질환 예방에 효과가 있을 것으로 생각되어진다. Bone is continuously remodeled by osteoblasts and osteoclasts. We investigated the effects of medicinal herbs, which act on bone metabolism. Fifteen kinds of medicinal herb extracts were screened for bone formation activity with osteoblastic cells, and MC3T3-E1 and bone resorption were screened with osteoclasts derived from mouse bone marrow macrophages. Among these samples, Actinidia polygama, Eucommia ulmoides Oliv., Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Sorbus commixta, and Zingiber officinale Rosc. extracts showed strong bone-forming activity accompanied with osteoblast proliferation and alkaline phosphatase activity. In addition, these extracts decreased tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase activity against osteoclast differentiation. The results indicate that these medicinal herb extracts can potentially prevent bone-related diseases such as osteoporosis by increasing osteoblast differentiation and reducing osteoclast activity.

In this study, biodegradable base Li-greases were prepared by using Li-soap thickener and vegetable oils such as soybean oil, rapeseed oil, castor oil and synthetic ester. Also, EP-greases were formulated by blending base Li-greases, anti-wear additives, EP additives, anti-oxidants and corrosion inhibitor etc.. And EP-greases were characterized by analysing physical properties such as worked penetration, dropping point, 4-ball wear, extreme pressure, thermal properties etc. Biodegradability of base Li-greases and EP-greases were evaluated by CEC-L-33-A-93 method using several inoculums of domestic sewage treatment plant. As the results, biodegradability of vegetable oils were shown at the range of 97.1 to 98.4%. And biodegradability of base Li-greases and EP-greases were 86.2% ~ 89.3% and 83.4% ~ 90.0% which were lower value than those of vegetable oils due to effect of Li-soap thickener, respectively. Therefore, the EP-greases prepared in this study were easily biodegraded by microorgnism.

<P>This multicenter, prospective trial was conducted to develop an effective and safe reinduction regimen for marrow-relapsed pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) by modifying the dose of idarubicin. Between 2006 and 2009, the trial accrued 44 patients, 1 to 21 years old with first marrow-relapsed ALL. The reinduction regimen comprised prednisolone, vincristine, L-asparaginase, and idarubicin (10 mg/m<SUP>2</SUP>/week). The idarubicin dose was adjusted according to the degree of myelosuppression. The second complete remission (CR2) rate was 72.7%, obtained by 54.2% of patients with early relapse < 24 months after initial diagnosis and 95.0% of those with late relapse (<I>P</I> = 0.002). Five patients entered remission with extended treatment, resulting in a final CR2 rate of 84.1%. The CR2 rate was not significantly different according to the idarubicin dose. The induction death rate was 2.3% (1/44). The 5-year event-free and overall survival rates were 22.2% ± 6.4% and 27.3% ± 6.7% for all patients, 4.2% ± 4.1% and 8.3% ± 5.6% for early relapsers, and 43.8% ± 11.4% and 50.0% ± 11.2% for late relapsers, respectively. Early relapse and slow response to reinduction chemotherapy were predictors of poor outcomes. In conclusion, a modified dose of idarubicin was effectively incorporated into the reinduction regimen for late marrow-relapsed ALL with a low toxic death rate. However, the CR2 rate for early relapsers was suboptimal, and the second remission was not durable in most patients.</P>
