        조원배,문승재,유호선,Cho, Won-Bae,Moon, Seung-Jae,Yoo, Hoseon 한국플랜트학회 2009 플랜트 저널 Vol.5 No.3

In this paper, the present condition for localization of process pumps and the enhancement method of the localization ratio of process pumps for refinery and chemical plant market were studied. The market of plant industry in the world has grown rapidly since 2000. However, the profit of domestic plant EPC compaies cound not have been increased as much as the market scale because they procured most of equipment from overseas. To make remarkable profit of plant EPC companies in the petrochemical industry, localization of equipments is required. Suitable equipment for localization is process pump applied API 610 standard. An purchased amount of pumps from overseas by domestic plant EPC companies in the last two years were 230 billion won. If process pumps are localized then an profit of plant EPC project will increase.

Customized Asthma Control Test with Reflection on Sociocultural Differences

        Yoo, Kwang-Ha,Jeong, Jae-Won,Yoon, Ho-Joo,Chang, Suk-Il,Moon, Hee-Bom,Choi, Byoung-Hwui,Kim, You-Young,Cho, Sang-Heon The Korean Academy of Medical Sciences 2010 JOURNAL OF KOREAN MEDICAL SCIENCE Vol.25 No.8

<P>We evaluated the utility and feasibility of customizing Asthma Control Test (ACT) items to generate a Korean Asthma Control Test (KACT) specific for Korean patients. We surveyed 392 asthma patients with 19 items, selected to reflect the Korean sociocultural context. Guideline ratings were integrated with the evaluations of specialists (i.e., using both guide base rating together with specialist's rating), and items with the greatest discriminating validity were identified. Stepwise regression methods were used to select items. KACT scale scores showed significant differences between the asthma control ratings generated by integrating ratings (r=0.77, <I>P</I><0.001), by specialist's evaluations (r=0.54, <I>P</I><0.001), or by FEV1 percent predicted (r=0.39, <I>P</I><0.001). Specialist's and guideline ratings detected 56% and 48.6% of patients with well-controlled asthma, respectively. However, the integrated ratings indicated that only 34.3% of the patients in the test sample were well controlled. The overall agreement between KACT and the integrated rating ranged from 45% to 78%, depending on the cut-off points used. It is possible to formulate a valid, useful country-specific diagnostic tool for the assessment of asthma patients based on the original ACT that reflect differences in sociocultural context.</P>

      • Negative regulation of hypoxia inducible factor-1α by necdin

        Moon, Hyo-Eun,Ahn, Mee-Young,Park, Jeong Ae,Min, Kyung-Jin,Kwon, Yoo-Wook,Kim, Kyu-Won Elsevier 2005 FEBS letters Vol.579 No.17

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) is a master transcription factor that mediates cellular and systemic homeostatic responses to reduce O2 availability, such as erythropoiesis, angiogenesis, and glycolysis. Using the yeast two-hybrid screening system, we found that the oxygen dependent degradation (ODD) domain of HIF-1α interacts with necdin, a growth suppressor. The interaction of necdin with HIF-1α was confirmed using coimmunoprecipitation with the overexpressed HIF-1α. Biological effect of necdin on HIF-1α showed that necdin reduces the transcriptional activity of HIF-1 under hypoxia. Moreover, necdin decreased the level of the HIF-1α protein, but not that of mRNA, implying a possibility of necdin-mediated HIF-1α degradation. Furthermore, necdin has an anti-angiogenic activity in the tube formation assay and CAM assay, which might be due to the downregulation of HIF-1α. Collectively, these results suggest that necdin can be a novel negative regulator of HIF-1α stability via the direct interaction.</P>

Effects of Soil Amendments Application on Growth of Rice Cultivated in Soils Polluted with Heavy Metal(loid) and on the As and Cd Content in Brown Rice

        Yoo, Ji-Hyock,Park, Sang-Won,Kim, Won-Il,Lee, Sang-Beom,Oh, Kyeong-Seok,Moon, Byeong-Churl,Kim, Sung-Chul 한국토양비료학회 2017 한국토양비료학회지 Vol.50 No.6

Heavy metal(loid) contamination of rice is the main issue in abandoned metal mine area with regard to food safety. A field study was conducted in mine area to see if soil amendments treatment including calcium superphosphate, sulfur, steel slag and S-containing fertilizer could reduce As and/or Cd content in rice grain and increase the growth of rice. The As content in brown rice reduced to 60% compared to the control only in $7.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$ of steel slag treatment. Cd reduction in rice was thought to be not the effect of amendments but the result from the difference in growth and development of rice plant and this could be ascribed to low soil Cd availability to rice plant. Compared with control, increased rice yield of cultivar Hwanggeumnuri was 1.3~2.2 and $1.5Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in calcium super phosphate and S-containing fertilizer treatment, respectively and the trend was also observed in cultivar Ungwang. However, steel slag treatment reduced the Ungwang yield by $0.4{\sim}0.9Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Future work will be needed to establish the agricultural measure with which secure the safety and yield of rice simultaneously.

The Efficacy and Safety of Autologous Transfusion in Unilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty

( Moon Jib Yoo ),( Hee Gon Park ),( Jee Won Ryu ),( Jeong Sang Kim ) 대한슬관절학회 2015 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.27 No.3

Purpose: Although allogeneic blood transfusion is the most common method of transfusion in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there are reports showing significant decrease in the amount of allogeneic transfusion and incidence of side effects after combined use of autologous transfusion. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of using an autologous transfusion device in TKA. Materials and Methods: Patients who underwent TKA at our institution from January 2003 to January 2014 were divided into two groups: group A (n=127) who received allogeneic transfusion only in TKA and group B (n=118) who received autologous transfusion via an autologous transfusion device and allogeneic transfusion. In both groups, the patients were transfused when the hemoglobin level was below 9 g/dL. In group B, blood collected by the autologous transfusion device was transfused only once after surgery. The total blood loss volume, total transfusion volume, and the presence of side effects were assessed based on medical records. Results: Group A received 294.6 mL more allogeneic transfusion than group B (p<0.001). There were no significant differences with regard to the development of side effects between groups. Conclusions: Application of an autologous transfusion device during TKA can be effective in reducing the allogeneic transfusion volume. Moreover, allogeneic transfusion was not necessary after autologous transfusion in some patients.

Original Article : The usefulness of non-invasive liver stiffness measurements in predicting clinically significant portal hypertension in cirrhotic patients: Korean data

( Won Ki Hong ),( Moon Young Kim ),( Soon Koo Baik ),( Seung Yong Shin ),( Jung Min Kim ),( Yong Seok Kang ),( Yoo Li Lim ),( Young Ju Kim ),( Youn Zoo Cho ),( Hye Won Hwang ),( Jin Hyung Lee ),( Myeo 대한간학회 2013 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.19 No.4

Background/Aims: Liver stiffness measurement (LSM) has been proposed as a non-invasive method for estimating the severity of fibrosis and the complications of cirrhosis. Measurement of the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) is the gold standard for assessing the presence of portal hypertension, but its invasiveness limits its clinical application. In this study we evaluated the relationship between LSM and HVPG, and the predictive value of LSM for clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) and severe portal hypertension in cirrhosis. Methods: LSM was performed with transient elastography in 59 consecutive cirrhotic patients who underwent hemodynamic HVPG investigations. CSPH and severe portal hypertension were defined as HVPG ≥10 and ≥12 mmHg, respectively. Linear regression analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between LSM and HVPG. Diagnostic values were analyzed based on receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: A strong positive correlation between LSM and HVPG was observed in the overall population (r2=0.496, P<0.0001). The area under the ROC curve (AUROC) for the prediction of CSPH (HVPG ≥10 mmHg) was 0.851, and the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) for an LSM cutoff value of 21.95 kPa were 82.5%, 73.7%, 86.8%, and 66.7%, respectively. The AUROC at prediction of severe portal hypertension (HVPG ≥12 mmHg) was 0.877, and the sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV at LSM cutoff value of 24.25 kPa were 82.9%, 70.8%, 80.6%, and 73.9%, respectively. Conclusions: LSM exhibited a significant correlation with HVPG in patients with cirrhosis. LSM could be a non-invasive method for predicting CSPH and severe portal hypertension in Korean patients with liver cirrhosis.

Ionic Cluster Mimic Membranes Using Ionized Cyclodextrin

        Won Jong-Ok,Yoo Ji-Young,Kang Moon-Sung,Kang Yong-Soo The Polymer Society of Korea 2006 Macromolecular Research Vol.14 No.4

Ionic cluster mimic, polymer electrolyte membranes were prepared using polymer composites of crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) with sulfated-${\beta}$-cyclodextrins (${\beta}-CDSO_3H$) or phosphated-${\beta}$-cyclodextrins (${\beta}-CDPO(OH)_2$). When Nafion, developed for a fuel cell using low temperature, polymer electrolyte membranes, is used in a direct methanol fuel cell, it has a methanol crossover problem. The ionic inverted micellar structure formed by micro-segregation in Nafion, known as ionic cluster, is distorted in methanol aqueous solution, resulting in the significant transport of methanol through the membrane. While the ionic structure formed by the ionic sites in either ${\beta}-CDSO_3H$ or ${\beta}-CDPO(OH)_2$ in this composite membrane is maintained in methanol solution, it is expected to reduce methanol transport. Proton conductivity was found to increase in PVA membranes upon addition of ionized cyclodextrins. Methanol permeability through the PVA composite membrane containing cyclodextrins was lower than that of Nafion. It is thus concluded that the structure and fixation of ionic clusters are significant barriers to methanol crossover in direct methanol fuel cells.
