      • MicroRNA-155 as a proinflammatory regulator in acute gouty arthritis

        Introduction: MicroRNA-155 (miR-155) is crucial for the proinflammatory activation of human myeloid cells and antigen-driven inflammatory arthritis. Since, the functional role of miR-155 in gouty arthritis has not been defined. The aim of this study was to examine the role of miR-155 in pathogenesis of gouty arthritis. Materials and methods: Samples from fourteen patients with gouty arthritis and ten healthy controls were obtained. Monosodium urate (MSU) crystals were prepared by recrystallization from uric acid. Total RNA was isolated using the miRNeasy kit (Qiagen). The miScript Reverse Transcription Kit (Qiagen) was used for cDNA preparation. MiScript primer assay (Qiagen) were used for semiquantitative determination of the expression of human miR-155. Human TNF-α and IL-1β in supernatants were measured by Luminex (Millipore, USA) according to the instructions of the manufacturer. Gout peritonitis mice (Male C57BL/6J) model used to analyze expressions of miR-155, Src homology 2-containing inositol phosphatase-1 (SHIP-1), and inflammatory cytokines. Results: The samples from gout patients proved to be highly enriched in miR-155, with levels of expression being 4-fold higher than those found in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from healthy controls and gout (p<0.05). miR-155 was found to be strongly induced by stimulation of MSU crystals after 24 hours and their expressions gradually decreased. Stimulating with MSU crystals for the indicated times, and the level of SHIP-1 was found to be gradually decreased in according to over-expression of miR-155. miR-155 promoted MSU-induced proinflammatory cytokine production. Commensurate with our observations in human synovial monocytes, miR-155 expression was elevated in gout mice model. SHIP-1 protein levels were markedly reduced in cells by MSU stimulated, compared to the control. MSU crystal induced peritonitis mice significantly increased the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α and IL-1β. Conclusion: Overexpression of miR-155 in synovial fluid mononuclear cells (SFMC) led to down-regulation of SHIP-1 and an increase in the production of proinflammatory cytokines.

        농업생명과학대학 교수가 활용하는 교수설계, 방법 및 전략

        이 연구의 목적은 농업생명과학대학 교수들이 과목 지도에서 활용하는 교수전략, 방법 및 전략을 확인하는데 있었다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 총 46개 대학에 근무하는 1,471명의 교수 중 307명을 단순무선표집하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 농학계 대학 교수들은 교수능력을 개발하기 위한 기회가 부족한 편이며, 교육방법에 대한 학습경험이 적은 편이다. 둘째, 농학계 대학 교수들은 사전에 수업운영에 대한 구상은 하지만 실제적인 지도계획 수립이나 구체적인 자료준비는 부족하며, 수업을 위한 교안 작성자는 과반수에 지나지 않았다. 셋째, 농학계 대학 교수들은 강의법, 실험 및 실습 등의 한정된 수업방법을 주로 활용하나 최근에 강조되는 학습자 중심 교수방법들의 활용은 부족한 것으로 나타났고, 실제 수업 단계에서 특히 수업 도입이나 마무리 단계가 미흡한 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 농학계 대학 교수들은 학생 강의평가 결과를 수업개선에 적극적으로 활용하지 않으며, 강의평가를 제외한 대학차원의 교수개선 지원이 부족하다. 이러한 결과에 기초하여 이 연구에서는 농업 및 농촌 현장과 연계된 교육, 교육목표에 적절한 교수설계, 학습자 중심의 교수방법 활용, 강의부담 경감, 교수 전문성 향상을 위한 기회 및 지원 제공 등의 개선방안을 제안하였다. The purpose of this study was to identify the instructional designs, teaching methods and strategies used by professors in the college of agriculture and life sciences in Korea. The population for this study was 1,471 professors of agriculture and life science colleges. 307 professors were randomly chosen from the population for the study. The survey was carried out by e-mail or in person. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, professors of colleges of agriculture and life sciences do not have many opportunities to improve their own teaching abilities. Also, they do not have many training experiences in taking pedagogy class, and attending seminars and workshops. Second, professors do not make an actual lesson plan or prepare enough learning aids materials on a class period base. Third, the professors rarely used the more learner-centered approaches. In addition, they usually emphasized on the "body stage" of each lesson which resulted in the unbalanced instruction in the "opening" and the "closing stages" of the lesson. Finally, professors execute the course evaluation, but the results of these evaluations are not being used for improvement of teaching and learning. Based on these results, some recommendations were made: the field-related education in agriculture, proper systematic design of the course teaching, use of more learner-centered teaching methods, building the constructive environment for the professors by reducing mandatory lectures and the balanced teaching from the opening to the closing in every instruction.

      • HFC-134a와 대체냉매 HFC-152a에 CF_3I를 혼합한 자동차냉매 특성

        These days, an attention of environment has been increasing all over the world. to prevent the green house effect and destruction of an ozone layer, an ozone destruction potential(ODP) be zero and a refrigerant for low global warming potential(GWP) is needed. HFC-134a, in which hydrogen is mixed instead of chlorine is a refrigerant used for automobile conditioners and its destruction potential is ecologically zero. However, it is not considered as a perfect substitutive refrigerant as its GWP is high. It is studied refrigerant mixtures in which HFC-134a, HFC-152a and CF_3I with low GWP and zero ODP are mixed by experimentally and concluded as follows; 1. with the variation of speed of compressor outside temperature and flow rate, the heat of evaporator and compressor and coefficient of performance was varied, and influenced the air conditioner. 2. The pressure of evaporator was decreased with increasing the speed of compressor and that of the refrigerant HFC-134a was higher 21% than that of azotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I. The overall capacity of condensor and evaporator was increased and HGC-134a was higher than azotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I 3. The capacity of evaporator with the refrigerant HFC-134a was higher 6% than azotrope refrigerant mixed with CF31 and the required power with zaotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I was higher 11% than that of HFC-134a. 4. The COP of the refrigerant FHC-134a was higher 31% in 1000RPM. when outside temperature was increased, COP was decreased. 5. Performance of HFC-134a is better than azotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I but prefered zaotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I considering the environment.

        A local culture ought to be established by local citizens and existed for the sake of local citizens, at the same time a local culture should be cultures developing, prospering the locality. That is why a local culture must be separate from centralizm. On this account it is necessary that local inhabitants should create their own cultures in their own way. Up to now, however, a central government has controlled local cultures, so we find it very difficult for the inhabitants to form creative cultures for their own locality. Therefore universities, colleges, and community colleges where are located in the locality are now asked to play initiative roles to produce local cultures. There are factors to make allowances for advancing local cultures; that is, the qualities, a cultural space, a cultural organization, cultural events, maintenance and transmission. The functions of higher educaion are instruction, research, service, these general functions of higher education and the above factors are indispensable to the development and creation of local cultures. In this paper we mean to investigate the functions and roles of higher education in Pusan area for the prosperity of local cultures. The followings specify the functions and roles of higher education for the advancement of local cultures. 1. Higher education has the responsibility of creating and maintaining of the qualities of local cultures corresponding to the area. Pusan is surrounded with rivers, seas, mountains and has plentiful of traditional inheritances. In spite of these environments Pusan is regarded as a marine city, Pusan has not only activities to maintain qualities as a marine city but also contains activities to keep pace with cultural qualities as a riverside city, a mountainous city including historical inheritances. 2. Higher education tries to play an important role to search for programs to utilize the existing cultural space and to devise new cultural space. In case local qualities in Pusan are divided into riverside, mountainous, marine, and traditional, Dong-A University and Busan Junior College are situated at Nak-dong River, so they had better devise cultural acticities in connection with riverside cultures. Busan National University, Dong- Ui University, Busan Women's University, Busan Teachers'College are surrounded with mountanous areas, therefore they had better plan cultural programs to devise activities connected with mountainous cultures. Korean Marine University, Gyongsong University, Susan University, Goshin University are surrounded with seas, so they had better devise programs to make use of activities related to marine cultures. 3. Higher education should provide local citizens with the facilities for cultural space. 4. Higher education should educate persons who keep and create local cultures. 5. Higher education should have close ties with cultural organizations in the locality to activitize and study the programs, and supply them with the materials. 6. Higher education should make their resource personnel take part in the activities of the cultural organizations and contribute to the development of the cultural organizations. 7. Higher education should get their own members to participate in the cultural events and to help to activitize the events. 8. Higher education should develop cultural event corresponding to local qualities and devide them into weak points and strong points to activitize the program. 9. Higher education should participate in the cultural events and manage the events. 10. Higher education should have research activities to keep the existing local cultures and to develop new cultural patterns. 11. Higher education should have their own members educate the inhabitants to transmit local cultures and try to practise examplary cultural patterns.

        대사성 산증을 동반한 알코올성 간질환 환자의 단기 예후

        목적: 알코올성 간질환에서의 대사성 산증은 지속적인 과량의 알코올 섭취로 인한 당 신생 합성의 억제와 BOHB/AcAc 비율의 증가, 단기간의 금식으로 인한 저혈당, 인슐린 분비 저하, 유리 지방산과 케톤체 형성의 증가, 구토와 수분 섭취 부족에 의한 심한 탈수에 의해 발생하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 알코올성 케톤산증과 감별할 질환으로는 당뇨병성 케톤산증, 젖산증, 살리실레이트, 메탄올, 에틸렌글리콜 중독 등이 있다. 본 연구는 대사성 산증을 동반한 알코올성 간질환으로 내원하여 입원한 환자들을 대상으로 생존군과 사망군에서 임상적 양상 및 검사 소견들의 차이를 비교하여 단기 예후와 연관 있는 인자들을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상과 방법: 만성 알코올 남용자이면서 대사성 산증을 동반하여 입원한 알코올성 간질환 환자 29명을 생존군(18명)과 사망군(11명)으로 나누어 임상 소견과 검사실 소견을 비교하였다. 결과: 1) 대상 환자군은 연령은 36-65세였으며, 성별은 남자가 26명이었고 여자가 3명이었다. 2) 임상 증상은 의식저하, 복통, 구토, 호흡 곤란, 토혈, 흉통 등 다양하게 나타났으며, 신체검사 소견은 탈수, 황달, 빈혈, 간비대, 복수, 부종 등이었고 두 집단을 비교했을 때 사망군에서 복수가 유의하게 더 많은 빈도로 관찰되었다. 일일 평균 음주량은 사망군에서 유의하게 더 많았고(198 vs. 123, P=0.034) 음주 기간과 총 음주량은 두 군 간에 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 4) 내원시 혈액검사 소견을 비교하였을 때 사망군에서 동맥혈 산염기 차이가 유의하게 낮았고 헤모글로빈, 혈소판도 유의하게 낮았다. 사망군에서 총 비리루빈, 크레아티닌, 무기인, 암모니아가 유의하게 높았고 알부민, 클로라이드가 유의하게 낮았다. 사망군에서 프로트롬빈 시간이 유의하게 연장되었으며 섬유소원은 유의하게 낮았고 D dimer는 유의하게 높았다. 결론: 대사성 산증을 동반한 알코올성 간질환 환자에서 일일 알코올 섭취량을 파악하고 복수의 유무, 동맥혈 산염기 차이, 헤모글로빈, 혈소판, 총 빌리루빈, 알부민, 크레아티닌, 무기인, 클로라이드, 암모니아, 프로트롬빈 시간, 섬유소원, D dimer 등을 검사하는 것이 단기 예후를 예측하는 데 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다. 향후 많은 환자들을 대상으로 하여 예후 관련 인자들에 대한 전향적이고 체계적인 연구가 요망된다. Background/Aims: Alcoholic liver disease with metabolic acidosis may have possible causes such as alcoholic ketoacidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, lactic acidosis. Salicylate, methanol, and ethylene glycol intoxication should also be considered. The aim of this study was to investigate the short-term prognostic factors in patients with alcoholic liver disease with metabolic acidosis. Methods: Clinical data related to twenty-nine patients with alcoholic liver disease and metabolic acidosis was analysed retrospectively. Patients were divided into two groups according to the outcome (survival or death). Past medical history, and physical, laboratory and radiologic data at admission were compared. Results: The amount of daily alcohol intake differed significantly between the two groups (P=0.034), but duration and total amount of alcohol intake did not differ significantly between the two groups (P=0.128; P=0.360). The presence of ascites differed significantly between two the groups (P=0.019). On laboratory testing, the following differed significantly: base excess (P=0.038), hemoglobin (P=0.019), platelet (P=0.040), total bilirubin (P=0.007), albumin (P=0.012), creatinine (P=0.014), phosphorus (P=0.021), chloride (P=0.010), ammonia (P=0.003), prothrombin time (P=0.033), fibrinogen (P=0.011) and D-dimer (P=0.024). Review of the medical history of the patients showed diabetes (10/29), cirrhosis (10/29), and hepatocellular carcinoma (1/29). Combined conditions at admission were sepsis (8/29), pneumonia (7/29), acute renal failure (6/29), rhabdomyolysis (5/29), gastrointestinal hemorrhage (4/29), acute pancreatitis (3/29), acute respiratory distress syndrome (2/29), and acute myocardial infarction (1/29). Conclusions: The amount of daily alcohol intake, base excess, hemoglobin, platelet, total bilirubin, albumin, creatinine, phosphorus, chloride, ammonia, prothrombin time, fibrinogen and D-dimer seemed to be useful parameters in predicting short-term prognosis of patients with alcoholic liver disease with metabolic acidosis.         아동치열궁주요구성거리의 6세이후 5년간변화에 관한 연구

        This study was done to obtain data relating to the growth and development of dental arches in Korean primary school children during the five years after six year; of age, which were necessary to design the models for estimating the growth and developmental patterns of dental arches in Korean students. Since the eight lengths representing dental arch width and depth were measured on the stone dental arch models of 565 six year-old students residing in Yeoncheon-Gun county, Kyungki-Do province in 1995, they were longitudinally measured each year until the year 2000. The eight lengths representing dental arch width and depth were respectively measured on the stone dental arch models of 547 seven year-old students in 1996, 521 eight year-old students in 1997, 488 nine year-old students in 1998, 464 ten year-old students in 1999 and 442 eleven year-old students in 2000. Besides, 82 cephalometric distances and 54 cephalometric angles representing craniofacial depth and height were measured on the lateral cephalograms of 565 seven year-old students in 1996. According to the profile classification criteria reported by Lee and Moon^19), the profiles of 565 six year-old students were classified into seven profile groups, which were the upper neutral positioned lower retrognathic long profile group, the upper prognathic lower prognathic very long profile group, the upper retrognathic lower retrognathic middle profile group, the upper prognathic lower neutral positioned short profile group, the upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned very short profile group, the upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned very long profile group and the upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned middle profile group. During the five years after six years of age since 1995, the changed eight lengths of dental arch width and depth representing the growth and development of dental arches were compared and discussed respectively in the seven profile groups. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. Upper inter-deciduous canine widths were continued to increase each year for two years after six years of age in all the male and female seven profile groups. However, they were continued to increase each year after eight years of age in all the other male and female profile groups except the male upper neutral positioned lower retrognathic long profile group and the male upper prognathic lower neutral positioned short profile group. 2. Lower inter-deciduous canine widths were continued to increase each year after six years of age in all the male and female seven profile groups. 3. Upper intermolar widths were continued to increase each year for five years after six years of age in all the other male and female profile groups except the female upper prognathic lower prognathic very long profile group. 4. Lower intermolar widths were continued to increase each year for five years after six years of age in all the other male and female profile groups except the male upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned very short profile group, the female upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned very short profile group, the female upper prognathic lower neutral positioned short profile group and the female upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned middle profile group. 5. Upper deciduous canine depths were rapidly increased each year for two years after six years of age in all the male and female profile groups. However, they were continued to increase each year after eight years of age in all the other male and female profile groups except the male upper prognathic lower neutral positioned short profile group, the female upper neutral positioned lower retrognathic long profile group and the female upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned middle profile group. 6. Lower deciduous canine depths were continued to increase each year after six years of age in all the other male and female profile groups except the female upper retrognathic lower retrognathic middle profile group and the female upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned very short profile group. 7. Upper molar depths were slowly increased each year for four years after six years of age in all the male and female profile groups. However, they were decreased after ten years of age in all the male and female profile groups. 8. Lower molar depths were increased for one year after six years of age in all the male and female profile groups. However, they were increased for one year after seven years of age in all the other male and female profile groups except the male upper retrognathic lower retrognathic middle profile group, the male upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned very short profile group and the male upper neutral positioned lower neutral positioned very short profile group. And, they were increased for one year after eight years of age in all the other male and female profile groups except the female upper retrognathic lower retrognathic middle profile group. But they were continued to decrease each year after nine years of age in all the male and female profile groups.

        A plasma spouted bed(PSB) was operated to find operating parameters and their effects. Experiments were performed with a laboratory scale PSB(bed diameter : 50㎜, orifice diameter : 4㎜, gas : Ar, plasma condition : DC 100V, 40A). The bed surface was observed from the top window and operating parameters were tested by changing gas flow rate and additional resistance after generating plasma. Also plasma jet was tested with particle loading and without within minimum spouting condition. Plasma power and electric potential increase with decreasing additional resistance and with increasing gas flow rate, but particle loading have no effect on plasma jet.

        Therapeutic Effects of Recombinant Human Epidermal Growth Factor (rhEGF) in a Murine Model of Concurrent Chemo- and Radiotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis

        <P>Concurrent chemotherapy with radiotherapy (CCRT) has been applied for the treatment of advanced stage of head and neck cancer patients. However CCRT is associated with several complications including mucositis, dermatitis, stomatitis, etc. This study was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effect of systemically administrated recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) in CCRT-induced oral mucositis in a mouse model. Oral mucositis was induced in male BALB/c mice through combination treatment with cisplatin (11 mg/kg, i.p.) and irradiation (17 Gy) of the head and neck area. rhEGF (1.0 mg/kg/day for consecutive 3 days) was administered systemically, and the therapeutic effect was determined by histological evaluation of the oral mucosa. To elucidate optimal dose of rhEGF on CCRT-induced mucositis, various concentrations (0.04–3 mg/kg) of rhEGF were injected for 3 days. Systemic rhEGF administration accelerated the recovery of body weight. Histologically, rhEGF-treated mice showed significantly increased epithelial cell layer thickness, basal cell number, and expression of Ki-67 compared to control mice. Most effective dose was 1 mg/kg among other doses tested. Systemic administration of 1 mg/kg of rhEGF reduces the severity of oral mucositis induced by CCRT in a mouse model, suggesting that rhEGF can be used for treating CCRT-induced mucositis during the cancer treatment.</P>

        Reaction completion time was investigated to measure OH/CH ratio as reaction time at 25℃. In 50 and 60 minute reaction was completed in 1.0 ratio that was reached equilibrium state. In another method, equilibrium, state was investigated by measuring volume% of C₂H_(5)OH. From 40 to 50 minute. that was reached at 61.6 of volume% After reaction. monomer and tetrasilicate(92%) as main product was discovered and so oligomer(6%). Mean molecular weight (Mw) of sol solution was about 7.000. The beginning point and ending point of hardening was measured through the TGA investigation of reaction material. The hardening of sol solution was complected in 7 minute and viscosity was maximum from 4 to 5 minute and was set at 9 minute.
