      • Application of modeling and simulation technology for the operator and staff trainings in nuclear power plants

        A simulation facility, ``plant-referenced simulator``, shall be used to meet the lawful requirements for applicants for Reactor operator (RO) or Senior reactor operator (SRO) licenses. Korea Hydro Nuclear Power (KHNP) has developed and used the full-scope simulators and other training facilities by using the modeling and simulation (M&S) technology. This paper describes current status of KHNP``s applications, full-scope simulator, compact(part task) simulator, nuclear plant analyzer (NPA), etc., by using modeling and simulation (M&S) technology for the operator and staff trainings in nuclear power plants (NPPs). Though the full-scope training simulators and other facilities are useful for the operator and non-operating staff trainings of NPPs, it cannot be too strongly emphasized that the importance of the safety culture included an administrative system to support high safety standards for emergency response.

      • Virtual reality training system for the local operators and engineers

        IAEA requests that a national strategy for capacity building in nuclear safety needs to be developed, implemented and periodically assessed. The most widely used methodology for design and developing new training programs is Systematic Approach to Training (SAT). Korea Hydro-Nuclear Power (KHNP) is in the process of adopting the SAT. The full-scope training simulator has played key-role in main control room (MCR) operator trainings in nuclear power plants, but the necessity of new ``simulation facilities`` for the local operator and staff is increasing after Fukushima nuclear accident. The implementation of virtual reality (VR) technology is great solution for the education and training system for classroom and self-training. This paper describes the KHNP``s experience of developing Virtual Reality (VR) training system for the local operators and nuclear engineers. The Virtual Reality Computer Assistant System(VRCATS) was the first web-based virtual reality training system for the local operators and nuclear engineers. The 3D/Virtual Reality training system, u-Laboratory, is a new web-based VR training system, and is serviced by intranet in the company. It is needed to upgrade the User Interface (UI) based on the Systematic Approached to Training for that kinds of training. It is recommended that the VR training system should be integrated with a full-scope simulator to make the realistic severe accident conditions and emergency drills situations of the NPP.

      • 초고속 실시간 트리거에 의한 머신 비전 시스템 모듈에 관한 연구

        머신 비전 시스템은 영상 처리와 영상 분석을 함께 사용하여 공장의 조립라인 등 다양한 분야에서 응용 되고 있는 시스템이다. 하지만 기존의 시스템은 고가의 초고속 카메라와 다양한 센서를 동시에 이용하는 문제로 시스템 구축 및 확장성 등의 불편함을 야기하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초고속 실시간 트리거를 이용한 저가형 이미지 센서 기반의 머신 비전 시스템을 구성하고자 한다.

      • 클라우드 서비스 기반의 스마트 토이 서비스 플랫폼 설계에 대한 연구

        IoT(Internet of Things) 기술이 접목 된 스마트 완구는 다양한 센서의 결합으로 점차 고도 지능화 되며 더 많은 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 스마트 완구는 단일 서비스 제공에서 다중 사용자 간 데이터 교환 기술로 발전하여 상호 작용을 위한 서비스 연구도 함께 이루어지고 있다. 이를 위해 국내 통신 망을 이용한 스마트 완구 서비스 플랫폼이 출시되는 등의 다양한 연구가 이루어지고 있으나 사용자 입장에서의 상호 교감 및 콘텐츠 서비스 기술에는 다소 부족한 내용이 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 클라우드 서비스를 기반으로 스마트 완구를 이용하는 이용자 간의 상호 교감형 커뮤니케이션을 지원하기 위한 스마트 완구의 서비스 플랫폼을 설계하는 내용을 기술한다.

      • 체계공학 관리기법을 적용한 전투기 체계개발 통합계획(IMP) 수립

        전투기 개발기술은 다양한 최첨단 기술의 집약체이다. 개발절차가 복잡하고 수많은 기술자료를 생성하다 보니 체계적이고 과학적인 체계공학 관리기법이 필요하다. 항공기 체계개발간 언제 어떠한 문서가 생성되어야 하고 어떤 일정계획에 의해 개발이 진행되어야 하는지, 또한 각 개발 단계별 진척상황을 어떠한 기준으로 판단할지 사업초기부터 명확한 계획을 수립하는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 전투기 체계개발 통합계획(IMP)은 각 개발 단계별 진입기준을 정의하고 각 기준을 충족시키는 산출물을 식별함으로써 사업 시작부터 종료할 때까지 종합적인 계획을 수립하게 되는 체계공학 프로세스상 가장 중요한 문서 중 하나이다. IMP는 이벤트 기반의 계획문서로서, 이벤트는 프로그램 마일스톤으로 개발 성숙도를 평가하는 포인트가 되며 기술검토, 시험, Ceremony, 납품 등을 포함한다.

        New continuous process developed for synthesizing sponge-type polyimide membrane and its pore size control method via non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS)

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, the improvement of synthesizing method of sponge-type polyimide (PI) membrane and its newly developed pore size control techniques are mainly described. The sponge-type polyimide membrane with large pore size (0.1–10 µm) and high permeability was successfully synthesized by using non-solvent phase separation method (NIPS) in continuous process and its full polyimidization is confirmed via Fourier-transform infrared technique. The theoretical approach in this research induced by Jurin's law which describes the height of a liquid within a thin capillary tube. In this theory, the pore size of membrane is highly influenced by the interactive tension between the polymer and solvents during synthesizing process of polymer membrane. There are two ways of controlling pore size established from Jurin's law. The validity of the application of Jurin's law was proven via comparison with theoretical and experimental data.         Objective: This study was aimed to review the recent trends of complementary medicine research in ICCMR 2008. Methods: Analyzed data include all researches of both oral and poster presentations in ICCMR. We classified presented researches according to their treatment method, nations, and targeted diseases. Results: In total, 338 researches were presented. In terms of methods, 68 basic researches, 98 clinical trials, 55 commentaries, 46 reviews, 71 trend analysis papers were classified. Herbal medicine was the most common treatment for research in ICCMR. And in terms of nation, Australia's announcement was the most in ICCMR. Lastly, cancer was the most focused theme in the conference. Conclusion: In the recent CAM research, cancer, depression and stress are the most targeted diseases since they are difficult to cure in modern medicine and since patients have high hopes to overcome their state by CAM. This review will help Korean doctors or scientists to systematically understand traditional medicine and to develop their researches.

        One-step synthesis of nano-porous monolithic polyimide aerogel

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A facile one-step method for synthesis of a porous monolithic polyimide aerogel was successfully developed. The specific thermal curing, slow desiccating process and swelling method were used in synthesizing monolithic polyimide aerogel without any additional chemical reaction to create a connected structure among the polyimide-based spherical aerogel microparticles. Using this method, the monolithic polyimide aerogel can be easily fabricated whilst using no additional chemicals for crosslinking. This type of polyimide aerogel was produced homogeneously by the polyimidization of pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and 4,4′-oxydianiline (ODA). The synthesized porous monolithic polyimide aerogel has many good properties which could be used in various industries, as it maintained a high thermal decomposition temperature (10% weight decomposition temperature: T<SUB>d10%</SUB>) of approximately 577 °C and a glass transition temperature (T<SUB>g</SUB>) of 432 °C, with bulk density of 490.7 kg/m<SUP>3</SUP>, porosity of approximately 45% and average pore size of 4 nm (by nitrogen adsorption test) of polymer and 157 nm (by mercury intrusion method) of space observed in FE-SEM image. Also, the monolithic polyimide aerogel had an excellent oil-adsorbing capacity of 150%, and the adsorbed oil could be separated easily using a simple drying process. The dried monolithic polyimide aerogel showed significant recoverability and reusability of adsorbed oil. In addition, the monolithic polyimide aerogel exhibited high mechanical resistance such that the structure can withstand a high pressure greater than 122.3 kPa, under which the monolithic polyimide aerogel (MPA) was compressed but did not break. This type of MPA shows excellent thermal, mechanical properties and great processability, and could be the new candidate for high performance materials in various industries, especially catalyst field.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Unlike other aerogel synthesis, in this study, the polyimide aerogel monolith is created without adding any other chemicals. </LI> <LI> The polyimide aerogel monolith has excellent thermal, mechanical properties and great processability for application in various industries. </LI> <LI> The polyimide aerogel monolith synthesized with homogeneity fully maintained in very convenient and easy method. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
