      • Aging estimation of reactor pressure vessel in the field using magnetic properties

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Many researchers have been interested in the nondestructive measurement methods for estimating components damage in order to assure the safe service of steel structures. It is recognized that the evaluating techniques based on magnetic measurement can offer a great potential because of high susceptibility to the change of several metallurgical factors. Magnetic property such as coercive force was measured. The coercive force at room temperature monotonously increased with the increase of frequency. The correlation between the magnetic properties of used material and that of un-used material was studied. The coercive force gradient at room temperature increased with the increase of aging. Hence the estimating method using magnetic properties allows one to evaluate the extent of material aging for reactor pressure vessel.</P>

      • 금궤요략 증상에 근거한 진료기록부 작성에 대한 제언

        Objectives This study intends to present the writing of standardized medical records based on Korean medicine on the basis of Geum-gwe-yo-ryak symptoms. Methods 1. Excluding the sentences unrelated to the Geum-gwe-yo-ryak symptoms, the symptoms in the rest of sentences were extracted. 2. Classifying the extracted symptoms as per the review of system, the similar symptoms were integrated. 3. Calculating the frequencies of each symptom, each strain rate was calculated. 4. The above results were compared with the results of existing similar study on Sang-han-ron(『傷寒論』) symptoms Results Conclusion 1. Resulting from the analysis on all sentences in Geum-gwe-yo-ryak, a total of 1486 different symptoms were extracted. 2. As results out of total, the symptom related to the temperature sensation accounted for 12.4%, that related to sweat did 3.8%, that related to thirst did 3.8%, that related to edema did 3.4%, that related to musculoskeletal system did 6.9%, that related to breathing did 8.6%, that related to chest and hypochondrium did 6.2%, that related to abdomen did 9.5%, that related to digestive system did 9.6%, that related to stool did 6.4%, that related to urination and urinary system did 5.7%, that related to mouth, eye, ear, nose, throat did 5.3%, that related to skin did 4.5%, that related to language, mind, sleep and emotion did 6.7%. 3. Compared with Sang-han-ron, Edema appear only in Geum-gwe-yo-ryak. Therefore, edema may be a characteristic symptoms of miscellaneous disease.

        In this paper, we describe the short range propagation loss characteristic of 24㎓ frequency band used for automotive collision avoidance radar (ACAR). To investigate the radio propagation characteristic of ACAR signals, we used 24㎓ UMCW (Un-Modulated Continuous Wave) signals using by several polarized antenna combinations. To detect the accurate message data for safety guiding ACAR, we analyze and investigate the optimum receiving condition from the short range UMCW signal of the 24㎓ frequency. From the measurement analysis, it can be clearly seen that the short range UMCW signal can be encountered to multipath interference due to scattering rays from the ground plane and adjacent moving obstacles. In addition, it was also found that the received signal strength of circularly co-polarized antenna shows the most strong envelopes and best fading reduction effect.

      • Nasal Cavity Actinomycosis Mimicking Rhinolith

        ABSTRACT: Actinomycosis is a subacute-to-chronic bacterial infection caused by filamentous, gram-positive, non-acid-fast, anaerobic-to-microaerophilic bacteria. It is characterized by continuous spread, suppurative and granulomatous inflammation, and formation of multiple abscesses and sinus tracts that may discharge sulfur granules. Although the most common clinical forms of actinomycosis are cervicofacial, involvement of the nose and paranasal sinuses are extremely rare. Furthermore, nasal cavity actinomycosis mimicking rhinolith has not been reported in the literature previously. This article reports a patient of nasal cavity actinomycosis causing symptoms similar to those of a rhinolith, which was successfully treated by surgical debridement and antibiotic therapy.

      • Evolution of high-cycle fatigue behavior of extruded AZ91 alloy by artificial cooling during extrusion

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The influence of artificial cooling on the high-cycle fatigue behavior of extruded AZ91 alloy is investigated via fully reversed stress-controlled fatigue tests of alloy samples indirectly extruded with and without artificial cooling using water. Application of artificial cooling leads to a decrease in the size of recrystallized grains and an increase in the amount of dynamically formed Mg<SUB>17</SUB>Al<SUB>12</SUB> precipitates of the extruded alloy; this consequently results in an improvement in its tensile and compressive strengths. The artificially cooled sample has superior fatigue resistance to the non-cooled sample because the fatigue damage per cycle in the former is smaller than that in the latter. The dominant cyclic deformation mechanism of the non-cooled sample varies from twinning–detwinning to dislocation slip with cycling owing to the occurrence of cyclic hardening; this variation, in turn, causes the initial asymmetric hysteresis loop to become gradually symmetric with an increase in the number of cycles. On the other hand, the artificially cooled sample has a completely symmetric hysteresis loop from the first cycle owing to the suppression of twinning in compression by the high compressive strength. In addition, the shape of the hysteresis loop, the tensile and compressive peak strains, and the total strain amplitude of the artificially cooled sample remain almost unchanged throughout the entire lifetime because the sample is cyclically stable. These different cyclic deformation behaviors of the two samples are strongly related to their different dislocation densities in the as-extruded state.</P>

        Three New Fatty Acid Esters from the Mushroom Boletus pseudocalopus

        <P>A bioassay-guided fractionation and chemical investigation of a MeOH extract of the Korean wild mushroom Boletus pseudocalopus resulted in the identification of three new fatty acid esters, named calopusins A-C (1-3), along with two known fatty acid methyl esters (4-5). These new compounds are structurally unique fatty acid esters with a 2,3-butanediol moiety. Their structures were elucidated through 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic data and GC-MS analysis as well as a modified Mosher's method. The new compounds 1-3 showed significant inhibitory activity against the proliferation of the tested cancer cell lines with IC(50) values in the range 2.77-12.51 관M.</P>

        In this work, Internet Supercomputing methodology is introduced and the concept is materialized for large-scale finite element analysis. The primary resources of Internet Supercomputing are numerous idling PCs connected by Internet with no regards to their locations. Under the above concept, virtual supercomputing system InterSup I is constructed and tested. To establish the InterSup I system, 64 PC nodes, which are located in several places and connected by Internet, are conscripted, and the finite element code, IPSAP(Internet Parallel Structural Analysis Program) based on parallel multifrontal solver is developed for solving structural analysis problems. And mesh-partitioner based on graph-partitioning algorithms with WVEM(Weight Vertex and Edge Method) proposed in this work also developed. By the establish InterSup I system, analysis of finite element structural model having around 10 million DOFs are solved and the elapse time is 28,194 sec. From these results, it is confirmed that the proposed Internet Supercomputing methodology has a great promise and potential as a next-generation.

      • Anti-inflammatory and Anti-oxidant Effects of Ledebouriella seseloides produced by Different Cultivation Method

        Ledebouriella seseloides (LS) is a medicinal plant with high functional activity in anti-inflammatory and anti-stroke effects. Recently, LS has been cultivated widely in plant factory with artificial light (LS-A). We evaluated the effects of LS-A and LS cultivated in the open field (LS-F) on anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities. In DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging tests and total polyphenol analysis, LS-A and LS-F extracts showed similar antioxidant activity. They significantly reduced lipopolysaccaride (LPS, 1 μg/mL)-induced nitric oxide (NO) concentration in a dose-dependent manner without cytotoxicity in RAW264.7 cells cultured with the extracts. In the western blot analysis, they decreased the expression of iNOS, COX-2, and NF-κB proteins in the RAW.264.7 cells. The results suggests that LS-A has anti-oxidative activity and anti-inflammatory effects like as LS-F extracts. LS-A may be used as a potential therapeutic candidate for the prevention and treatment of macrophage-derived chronic immune diseases.
