The objective of this article is to carry on the comparative study of the two books, Dongyisusebowon and Myungsunrok. Je-Ma Lee showed, in fact, the intellectual achievement in his book, Dongyisusebowon. And Lee showed more close relationships with Suk-Ji Han's idea. The common ideas from this comparative study of both scholars are as follows. 1. Lee understands the real character of human being according to Chu-Ztu(朱子)'s doctrine, with the supplement of Han's. 2. Lee explains the Sung-Jung(性情) in Cosmology and the theory of Human Nature, but he concentrates upon the Sung-Jung in the theory of Human Nature, especially in constitutional medicine. 3. Lee states the Tai-Geuk(太極) in the meaning of heart from the medical viewpoint, he agrees with the Han's idea. 4. I try to comprehend Myungsunrok in the Wang-Yang-Ming(王陽明)'s concept. 5. Han explains that Sung-Jung-I-Ki(性情理氣) is one concept with two aspects, Che-Yong(體用). In addition, Lee has formed his 'Chun-In-Sung-Myung(天人性命)' thought in harmonization with Han's idea and Chu-Tzu's idea.

To construct transfurmed Bm5 cells, Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus(AcNPV) IE1 gene, an immediate early viral gene was firstly used in this study. AcNPV IE1 gene, which shares on 95.3% nucleotide sequence homology with Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmNPV) IE1 gene, was isolated and cloned into pBluescript. Neomycin gene from pKO-neo was inserted under the control of the IE1 promoter to yield pAcIE1-neo. The plasmid pAcIE1-neo was transfected into Bm5 or Sf9 cells, and neomycin-resistant cells were selected in TC100 medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and 1 mg/ml G4l8 for two weeks. Individual clones were picked and each was amplified for further characterization. The genomic DNA from neomycin-resistant cells was isolated and characterized by PCR using AcNPV IEI gene-specific primers and by Southern blot analysis using neomycin gene probe. We concluded that AcNPV IE1 gene was functional in B. mori-derived Bm5 cells as well as Spodoptera fugjprrda-derived Sf9 cells to produce stably-transformed insect cells

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Hexavalent chromium wastewater is produced in electroplating processes and the heavy metal industry, highlighting the need for an environmentally friendly treatment and the recovery of chromium. This study compared the performance of microbial fuel cells implemented with a proton exchange membrane (PEM-MFC) and a bipolar membrane (BPM-MFC) using hexavalent chromium from electroplating wastewater as the catholyte. The removal of hexavalent chromium and simultaneous bioelectricity generation were enhanced significantly using a BPM. On the other hand, in the PEM-MFC, the lower pH of the electroplating wastewater (pH 1.8) in the cathodic chamber decreased the anodic pH due to proton diffusion through the PEM, and inhibited the bioelectrochemical reaction. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the reduced chromium particles precipitated on the cathode carbon electrode during the MFC operation. The precipitate was identified as amorphous chromium oxide particles by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Electroplating hexavalent chromium wastewater was treated in the cathode of MFC. </LI> <LI> A bipolar membrane MFC significantly improve the removal efficiency of Cr<SUP>6+</SUP>. </LI> <LI> Simultaneous higher bioelectricity was obtained from bipolar membrane (BPM). </LI> <LI> The BPM supports cathodic reaction without pH decrease in anodic chamber. </LI> <LI> The reduced chromium particles precipitated on the cathode surface was identified. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To investigate the effect of treadmill walking exercise as a treatment method to improve gait efficiency in adults with cerebral palsy (CP) and to determine gait efficiency during overground walking after the treadmill walking exercise.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Fourteen adults with CP were recruited in the experimental group of treadmill walking exercise. A control group of 7 adults with CP who attended conventional physical therapy were also recruited. The treadmill walking exercise protocol consisted of 3-5 training sessions per week for 1-2 months (total 20 sessions). Gait distance, velocity, VO<SUB>2</SUB>, VCO<SUB>2</SUB>, O<SUB>2</SUB> rate (mL/kg·min), and O<SUB>2</SUB> cost (mL/kg·m) were assessed at the beginning and at the end of the treadmill walking exercise. The parameters were measured by KB1-C oximeter.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>After the treadmill walking exercise, gait distance during overground walking up to 6 minutes significantly increased from 151.29±91.79 to 193.93±79.01 m, and gait velocity increased from 28.09±14.29 to 33.49±12.69 m/min (p<0.05). Energy efficiency evaluated by O<SUB>2</SUB> cost during overground walking significantly improved from 0.56±0.36 to 0.41±0.18 mL/kg·m (p<0.05), whereas O<SUB>2</SUB> rate did not improve significantly after the treadmill walking exercise. On the other hand, gait velocity and O<SUB>2</SUB> cost during overground walking were not significantly changed in the control group.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Treadmill walking exercise improved the gait efficiency by decreased energy expenditure during overground walking in adults with CP. Therefore, treadmill walking exercise can be an important method for gait training in adults with CP who have higher energy expenditure.</P>

Purpose: Left side deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is associated with May-Thurner’s anatomical variation and is often instigated by invasive treatment. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of left iliac vein narrowness on incidence of post thrombotic syndrome (PTS) that developed after left side DVT. Methods: Forty-one left side DVT cases that were followed up for more than 1 year were enrolled. The iliac vein narrowness was measured by the shortest distance from the right iliac artery to the 5th lumbar vertebra overlying left iliac vein in computed tomography (CT) scan. The incidence of PTS was measured by phone-call history taking for specific symptoms of PTS. The means of the shortest distance were compared by independent t-test. Results: The number of PTS cases was eleven (26.8%). The level of thrombus, demographic data and other risk factors were similar in both PTS and non-PTS groups except the mean risk factor score. The mean of the shortest distance of PTS group and non-PTS group were 5.56 ㎜ and 5.89 ㎜, respectively. Conclusion: The degree of left iliac vein narrowness measured by the shortest distance from the right iliac artery and the 5th lumbar vertebral body was not a predictive factor for PTS.
