      • Effects of Equine-Assisted Learning on Firefighters’ Psychological Stress Reduction: A Preliminary Study

        Dahye Shim,Tae Woon Jung,In Kyung Lee,Gumran Park,Yun Jae Park,Jeong Yi Kwon,Yun-Hee Kim6 한국동물매개심리치료학회 2022 한국동물매개심리치료학회지 Vol.11 No.2

This study investigated changes in psychological stress levels of 60 firefighters after participation in an eight-week Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) program consisting of 16 sessions. The Korean versions of the Posttraumatic Diagnosis Scale (PDS-K), the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (K-CESD), and the Difficulties in Emotional Regulation Scale (K-DERS) were used for measurements. Participants were divided into two groups according to level of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS): the PTSS risk group and the PTSS non-risk group. Results showed that PDS-K, K-CESD, and K-DERS scores were significantly reduced after the program in the PTSS risk group. Significant reduction was also found in all sub-scales of PDS-K: re-experiencing, avoidance/emotional numbing, and hyperarousal. Moreover, in the PTSS risk group, there were greater improvements with significant group x time interactions. These findings suggest that EAL is effective in relieving PTSD and PTSD-related symptoms of firefighters with subsyndromal or more severe levels of PTSD.

Microstructure Design of Carbon-Coated Nb2O5–Si Composites as Reversible Li Storage Materials

        Dahye Park,Kyungbae Kim,Han-Seul Kim,Hyungeun Seo,Hyun Seung Lee,Hyunjoo Choi,Jae-Hun Kim 대한금속·재료학회 2020 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.16 No.4

We report on a rationally designed microsphere composite consisting of Nb2O5 and Si nanoparticles for application to secondary Li batteries as an anode material. The micron-sized spherical Nb2O5–Si composite was first prepared using a solvothermal method with appropriate surfactants. Heat treatment was performed to achieve both crystallization of Nb2O5 and pyrolysis of the carbon precursor, yielding a carbon-coated Nb2O5–Si microsphere composite. To characterize the synthesized material, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed. The electrochemical test results demonstrated that the composite electrode delivered a high capacity of approximately 900 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles. This improved cycling stability can be attributed to the microstructure. In the microsphere composite, Si nanoparticles play a role as the main active material for Li storage; however, they suffer large volume changes during Li insertion and extraction cycling. In our composite material, crystallized orthorhombic Nb2O5 buffers the volume change and facilitates rapid Li transport through its microspheres. Additionally, the carbon coating layer acts as a secondary buffering medium and propels fast electronic/ionic transport.

Endoscopic Management of Pancreaticopleural Fistula in a Child with Hereditary Pancreatitis

        Dahye Lee,Eun Joo Lee,Ju Whi Kim,Jin Soo Moon,Yong-Tae Kim,Jae Sung Ko 대한소아소화기영양학회 2019 Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition Vol.22 No.6

Pancreaticopleural fistula (PPF) a fistulous connection between the pancreas and pleural space due to prolonged chronic pancreatitis (CP). PPF is a very rare complication which presents in 0.4% of chronic pancreatitis cases, especially among children. We report a case involving a 3-year-old boy who presented with pleural effusion caused by a PPF, a complication of hereditary pancreatitis, which was, for the first time in Korea, successfully managed with endoscopic treatment. Chest radiography and computed tomography showed massive pleural effusion. Percutaneous catheter drainage was performed. High amylase levels were observed in the pleural fluid and serum, suggesting PPF. The patient was managed with bowel rest and octreotide infusion. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography revealed CP, and pleural effusion was successfully managed with stent placement. PRSS1 genetic screening revealed R122H mutation.

      • Identification of flow transition from linear to nonlinear regimes in rock fractures using a flow imaging technique

Dahye Kim,In Wook Yeo 대한지질학회 2021 대한지질학회 학술대회 Vol.2021 No.10

We attempted to visualize transition processes from linear to nonlinear flow regimes in a rough-walled fracture, which used to remain in the territory of numerical and theoretical approaches. The state-of-the-art technique using the micro-particle image velocimetry was used to identify flow structure and to measure fluid velocity in a rough-walled analog fracture. This flow imaging study demonstrated that the onset of nonlinear flow was closely related to flow structure changes in rough-walled segments, such as the narrowing of the main flow channel and the growth of eddies. These changes in flow structure resulted in the greater fluid velocity gradient. The greater the fluid velocity gradient, the more accelerated the fluid particles, leading to the inertial forces dominating the viscous forces in the narrowed main flow channel of rough-walled segments. The order-of-magnitude analysis using the Navier-Stokes equations and the measured fluid velocity vectors also showed that inertial forces began to exceed viscous forces in some parts of the main flow channels of rough-walled segments from Re = 5, overwhelming viscous forces in most of the narrowed main flow channels from Re = 15 - 20. This study will serve for a better understanding of the evolution of flow regime and the causal mechanism of onset of nonlinear flow in rock fractures.

Direct Phosphonation of Quinolinones and Coumarins Driven by the Photochemical Activity of Substrates and Products

        Kim, Inwon,Min, Minsik,Kang, Dahye,Kim, Kiho,Hong, Sungwoo THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY 2017 ORGANIC LETTERS Vol.19 No.6

<P>Light-promoted phosphonation of quinolinones and coumarins was developed without the need for an external photocatalyst. Investigations support a mechanism whereby both starting materials and products act as photosensitizers upon excitation using compact fluorescent light sources to photochemically promote the dissociation of the N-O bond in the pyridinium salt by a single electron transfer pathway. A wide range of quinolinone and coumarin substrates can be utilized in the phosphonation process under mild reaction conditions.</P>

MRTF potentiates TEAD ‐ YAP transcriptional activity causing metastasis

        Kim, Tackhoon,Hwang, Daehee,Lee, Dahye,Kim, Jeong‐,Hwan,Kim, Seon‐,Young,Lim, Dae‐,Sik EMBO 2017 The EMBO journal Vol.36 No.4

<P>Yes-associated protein (YAP) and myocardin-related transcription factor (MRTF) play similar roles and exhibit significant crosstalk in directing transcriptional responses to chemical and physical extracellular cues. The mechanism underlying this crosstalk, however, remains unclear. Here, we show MRTF family proteins bind YAP via a conserved PPXY motif that interacts with the YAP WW domain. This interaction allows MRTF to recruit NcoA3 to the TEAD-YAP transcriptional complex and potentiate its transcriptional activity. We show this interaction of MRTF and YAP is critical for LPA-induced cancer cell invasion in vitro and breast cancer metastasis to the lung in vivo. We also demonstrate the significance of MRTFYAP binding in regulation of YAP activity upon acute actin cytoskeletal damage. Acute actin disruption induces nucleocytoplasmic shuttling of MRTF, and this process underlies the LATS-independent regulation of YAP activity. Our results provide clear evidence of crosstalk between MRTF and YAP independent of the LATS kinases that normally act upstream of YAP signaling. Our results also suggest a mechanism by which extracellular stimuli can coordinate physiological events downstream of YAP.</P>

Fast Assembly and High-Throughput Screening of Structure and Antioxidant Relationship of Carotenoids

        Kim, Dahye,Shi, Gaosheng,Kim, YunJi,Koo, Sangho American Chemical Society 2019 ORGANIC LETTERS Vol.21 No.3

<P>C20 heptaenyl diphosphonate <B>4</B> was prepared for one-pot synthesis of carotenoids <B>1</B>. Olefination with various aromatic aldehydes allowed fast assembly of the corresponding carotenoids. The SAR of carotenoids was investigated by high-throughput screening of ABTS and DPPH assays and their hierarchical clustering analysis. Antioxidant activity of carotenoids increased with the number of electron-donating substituents. Carotene <B>1a</B> with multiple electron-donating substituents was most proficient, which showed better radical scavenging activities than β-carotene and lycopene.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Ginsenoside Rg3-enriched red ginseng extract inhibits platelet activation and in vivo thrombus formation

        Dahye Jeong,Muhammad Irfan,Sung-Dae Kim,Suk Kim,Jun-Hwan Oh,Chae-Kyu Park,Hyun-Kyoung Kim,Man Hee Rhee 고려인삼학회 2017 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.41 No.4

Background: Korean Red Ginseng has been used for several decades to treat many diseases, enhancing both immunity and physical strength. Previous studies have documented the therapeutic effects of ginseng, including its anticancer, antiaging, and anti-inflammatory activities. These activities are mediated by ginsenosides present in the ginseng plant. Ginsenoside Rg3, an effective compound from red ginseng, has been shown to have antiplatelet activity in addition to its anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities. Platelets are important for both primary hemostasis and the repair of the vessels after injury; however, they also play a crucial role in the development of acute coronary diseases. We prepared ginsenoside Rg3-enriched red ginseng extract (Rg3-RGE) to examine its role in platelet physiology. Methods: To examine the effect of Rg3-RGE on platelet activation in vitro, platelet aggregation, granule secretion, intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) mobilization, flow cytometry, and immunoblot analysis were carried out using rat platelets. To examine the effect of Rg3-RGE on platelet activation in vivo, a collagen plus epinephrine-induced acute pulmonary thromboembolism mouse model was used. Results: We found that Rg3-RGE significantly inhibited collagen-induced platelet aggregation and [Ca2+]i mobilization in a dose-dependent manner in addition to reducing ATP release from collagen-stimulated platelets. Furthermore, using immunoblot analysis, we found that Rg3-RGE markedly suppressed mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation (i.e., extracellular stimuli-responsive kinase, Jun Nterminal kinase, p38) as well as the PI3K (phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase)/Akt pathway. Moreover, Rg3-RGE effectively reduced collagen plus epinephrine-induced mortality in mice. Conclusion: These data suggest that ginsenoside Rg3-RGE could be potentially be used as an antiplatelet therapeutic agent against platelet-mediated cardiovascular disorders.
