This research analyzes media sentiment towards China and Korea with in-depth details. The study employs advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) and sentiment analysis methods to analyze 11,598 documents, including news articles and reports. Through the analyses, the study detects sentiment patterns that reflect the complex geopolitical and economic interactions between the two nations. The study uses transformer-based models for accurate sentiment detection. The findings provide insights into how media narratives may shape and reflect international perceptions. Importantly, the study allows us to compare its outcomes with actual geopolitical events. It also highlights the capability of NLP techniques to understand the nuances of diplomatic relations, confirming the approach’s reliability in revealing intricate diplomatic dynamics.

This study identifies physical and social assets developed with local government’s investment that can contribute to facilitating interactions among residents in four direct-controlled municipalities of China; these assets are defined as a part of regional social capital. The public investment in physical and social assets can have both private and social benefits, and residents’ access to the assets is considered a component of comprehensive wealth. Those types of public investment are crucial for China to achieve a harmonious socialist society. With regard to increases in the identified public social capital of a region, this study finds that increases narrow the gap between urban and rural poverty. In particular, the selected indicators for public social capital are related to a group of vulnerable residents who are receiving minimum living allowance, rather than to overall residents. More dense coverage of public community services facilities in urban areas narrowed the gap between urban and rural poverty except in Chongqing. Local bureaucratic rent-seeking and the central-local relation are identified as China-specificity to understand local development processes. Identified negative correlation between regional social capital and the poverty gap can have implications for poverty reduction-related policy, increasing possibilities to decrease societal opportunity costs in the long run. Given a national priority to alleviate inequalities between and within regions and individuals, this study suggests that it is time for China’s government to consider regional social capital to enjoy positive externalities of those types of place-based assets.

Recently, stretchable triboelectric nanogenerators have attracted considerable attention as sustainable energy sources for emerging sensors and electronic applications. In this study, we fabricated a high-performance triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) (SRC-TENG) with excellent stretchability based on a composite electrode composed of a silicone rubber and carbon nanotube (CNT). Our SRC-TENG is capable of 800% elongation and is structurally simple, robust, and easy to fabricate. Moreover, it exhibits excellent performance and delivers a maximum output of 3.52 W/m2 at 100 MΩ, which is comparable to or even higher than those of most ultrastretchable TENGs reported. Furthermore, the output performance of the SRC-TENG is enhanced by optimizing the thickness of the composite in the range of 500–3000 μm. This increase was due to the increase in the interfacial area between the dielectric material and CNTs and the enlargement of the contact area. The fabricated SRC-TENGs show relatively high output performance even in their stretched state (e.g. less than ~ 30% decrease at 200% elongation) and demonstrate excellent long-term stability under a continuous loading of 50,000 cycles. We believe that our design principle for developing a high-performance TENG based on a composite electrode can be further expanded to other combinations of tribomaterials for various applications.

Recently, as environmental problems have grown, and among them, fine particles such as fine dust/fine plastic have become a problem, research on fine particle sensors is being actively conducted. In previous studies, the form of simply concentrating fine particles at a high concentration and putting them into a trapping space for measurement was used, and sensors with a structure of reading changes in S-parameters, especially reflection coefficient (S11), at a specific frequency using LC resonance were proposed. This form is not favorable for measuring fine particles that exist in extremely low concentrations in real-life environments. While the structure of reading reflection coefficient (S11) may be convenient for reading with commercial measurement equipment such as a Network Analyzer, it is advantageous to read transmission coefficient (S21) for commercialization. In this study, we captured lowconcentration fine particles dispersed in liquid using MEMS-based microfluidics and filter structures, thereby improving the sensitivity. Additionally, we designed the sensor to read transmission coefficient (S21) instead of reflection coefficient (S11) to increase commercial feasibility. As a result, we designed a fine particle measurement sensor with a center frequency of 1.2 GHz, and confirmed that the frequency shifted from 1.2028 GHz to 1.1929 GHz by inputting microplastics (PE).
