Effect of Forging Type on the Deformation Heterogeneities in Multi‑Axial Diagonal Forged AA1100

        Min‑Seong Kim,Sang‑Chul Kwon,Sun‑Tae Kim,Seong Lee,Hyo‑Tae Jeong,Shi‑Hoon Choi 대한금속·재료학회 2019 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.25 No.3

The present study investigated the effects that different types of forging exert on the deformation heterogeneities developedin AA1100 during multi-axial diagonal forging. To measure the deformation heterogeneities of deformed workpieces, thevalues for hardness and Kernel average misorientation were measured at the center section following each forging process. Type-D forging that consists of diagonal forging and return-diagonal forging was relatively advantageous compared withType-P forging that includes plane forging and return-plane forging for minimizing the non-uniformity of deformationdeveloped in workpieces. The effective strain developed in a workpiece during the 2 types of forging was simulated using3-D FEA. FEA revealed that the positions and degrees of occurrence for soft and hard-zones in workpieces vary greatlydepending on the forging type. Type-D forging was relatively advantageous compared with Type-P forging for minimizingthe non-uniformity of effective strain developed in workpieces.

      • Spontaneous Additive Nanopatterning from Solution Route Using Selective Wetting

        Jeong, Hyeonho,Moon, Hanul,Kim, Han-Jung,Yoon, Min,Park, Chang-Goo,Oh, Yong Suk,Sung, Hyung Jin,Choi, Dae-Geun,Yoo, Seunghyup American Chemical Society 2018 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.10 No.31

<P>Nanopatterns of functional materials have successfully led innovations in a wide range of fields, but further exploration of their full potential has often been limited because of complex and cost-inefficient patterning processes. We here propose an additive nanopatterning process of functional materials from solution route using selective wetting phenomenon. The proposed process can produce nanopatterns as narrow as 150 nm with high yield over large area at ultrahigh process speed, that is, the speed of solution dragging, of up to ca. 4.6 m·min-1. The process is highly versatile that it can utilize a wide range of solution materials, control vertical structures including pattern thickness and multistacks, and produce nanopatterns on various substrates with emerging form factors such as foldability and disposability. The solution patterning in nanoscale by selective wetting is enabled by corresponding surface energy patterns in high contrast that are achieved by one-step imprinting onto hydrophobic/hydrophilic bilayers. The mechanisms and control parameters for the solution patterning are revealed by fluid-dynamic simulation. With the aforementioned advantages, we demonstrate 25 400 pixel-per-inch light-emitting pixel arrays and a plasmonic color filter of 10 cm × 10 cm area on a plastic substrate as potential applications.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

      • Variation of Harbor Oscillations in Yeongil Bay

        MinSu Jeon,JoongWoo Lee,JaeHyun Jeong,SangYong Yang,YoungHwan Jeong 한국항해항만학회 2006 한국항해항만학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.1 No.-

Today, harbor oscillation problems are the most significant factor to consider when designing harbors serving very large ships. In coastal harbors, large vessels moored in the elastic hawsers are often displaced due to the resonance between long period waves and mooring systems. As a result, cargo handling may be interrupted and the hawsers may be broken, especially when the amplification becomes extreme. The most significant harbor confronted with harbor oscillation problem in Korea is Pohang New port. Many cases of problems are being reported by the pilot association and the local office of MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries). However, it is difficult to prevent the arrival of long waves causing oscillation within this harbor. Moreover, the Korean government has already started a new port plan at the mouth of Yeongil Bay without addressing the problems that have occurred in Pohang New port. This study deals with the variation of harbor oscillation due to the construction of a 4.1 km breakwater at the bay mouth including the arrangement of the new berths. Numerical methods used are in fairly standard form from the extended mile slope equation. The obtained numerical results were compared with field measurement from the previous and this will bring a certain level of discussion and consideration of variation to the future port development.

      • Surface Modification of Block Copolymer Through Sulfur Containing Plasma Treatment

Choi, Sang Wook,Shin, Jae Hee,Jeon, Min Hwan,Mun, Jeong Ho,Kim, Sang Ouk,Yeom, Geun Young,Kim, Kyong Nam American Scientific Publishers 2015 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.15 No.10

<P>Some of the important issues of block copolymer (BCP) as an application to the potential low cost next generation lithography are thermal stability and deformation during pattern transfer process in addition to defect density, line edge/width roughness, etc. In this study, sulfur containing plasma treatment was used to modify the BCP and the effects of the plasma on the properties of plasma treated BCP were investigated. The polystyrene hole pattern obtained from polystyrene polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) was initially degraded when the polystyrene hole was annealed at 190 degrees C for 15 min. However, when the hole pattern was treated using sulfur containing plasmas using H2S or SF6 up to 2 min, possibly due to the sulfurization of the polystyrene hole surface, no change in the hole pattern was observed after the annealing even though there is a slight change in hole shapes during the plasma treatment. The optimized plasma treated polystyrene pattern showed the superior characteristics as the mask layer by showing better thermal stability, higher chemical inertness, and higher etch selectivity during plasma etching.</P>

An automated quality assurance system with deep learning for small cube-ball phantom localization in noisy megavoltage images

        Park Min-Jae,Lee Gyemin,Kwak Jungwon,Jeong Chiyoung,Goh YoungMoon,Kim Sung-woo,Cho Byungchul,Song Si Yeol,Kim Jong Hoon,Jung Jinhong,Shin Young Seob,Oh Jungsu 한국물리학회 2024 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.84 No.9

To enhance effi ciency and minimize errors, we automated the quality assurance (QA) process in radiation oncology, specifi - cally laser localization. Additionally, we explored the use of a convolutional neural network (CNN) to enhance the detection of small cube-ball phantoms in noisy images. Laser localizations were measured manually on the acquired images. To automate the QA workfl ow, we developed a Linux server equipped with database and web servers. Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) fi les were retrieved 40 times for 10 linear accelerators (LINACs). The center of the cube-ball phantoms was estimated through Gaussian fi tting. We applied CNN using 6,968 stored results to improve the estimation performance in noisy megavoltage (MV) images. Subsequently, both analysis time and accuracy were compared. Our hospital has been employing the automated QA system since 2018, notably reducing the time for laser localization from 30 min to just 1 min. The average and standard deviation (SD) of inter-observer variability in the X- and Y-axes were 0.06 ± 0.01 mm and 0.05 ± 0.01 mm, respectively. Absolute diff erences between manual assessment and Gaussian fi tting presented average and SD values of 0.40 ± 0.51 mm and 0.23 ± 0.24 mm, respectively. In contrast, absolute diff erences between manual assessment and CNN presented average and SD values of 0.12 ± 0.10 mm and 0.11 ± 0.09 mm, respectively. Overall, the automated QA system signifi cantly hastened procedures in our large hospital and improved the estimation of the cube-ball phantom’s position in noisy images through deep learning.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the microbial inhibitory activity and physicochemical quality of fresh carrot juice prepared with different environmentally-friendly washing methods during low temperature storage. Individual and combined treatments with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda, NaHCO₃) and citric acid were applied to carrots for 10 min. Tap water and 50 ppm of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) were used as the control. Combined treatment of 1% NaHCO₃ and 1% citric acid significantly reduced total aerobic counts and coliforms. In addition, combined treatment of 1% NaHCO₃ and 1% citric acid inhibited microbial growth for 7 days at 4°C and 10°C in a shelf-life study. There were no significant differences among the sanitizers in terms of °Brix, acidity, pH, and color. Changes in physicochemical quality were not significantly different by sanitizer but were affected by storage temperature. These results indicate that washing with combined treatment of 1% NaHCO₃ and 1% citric acid is an effective method to inhibit the microbial population and maintain physicochemical quality. Therefore, combined treatment of 1% NaHCO₃ and 1% citric acid can be effectively used to sanitize and prepare carrot juice without affecting other properties.

Synthesis and biodistribution of 18F-labeled α-, β- and ω-fluorohexadecanoic acid

Yun-Sang Lee,Young Joo Kim,Gi Jeong Cheon,Jae Min Jeong 대한방사성의약품학회 2018 Journal of radiopharmaceuticals and molecular prob Vol.4 No.2

ω-[18F]-Fluorohexadecanoic acid (FHA) has been used for imaging of fatty acid metabolism of myocardium. To increase retention of radiolabeled fatty acid by blocking β-oxidation, methyl branched analogues have been used. In this experiment, we tried to synthesize 18F-labeled α-, β- and ω-FHA for imaging of the myocardial fatty acid metabolism. We synthesized α-, β- and ω-mesylated methyl hexadecanoates and labeled with 18F by reacting with [18F]TBAF in acetonitrile at 80ºC for 10 min. Methyl ester group was removed by 1 M NaOH at 80ºC for 5 min. The yields of α-[18F] and ω-[18F]FHA were 25.5 and 45.5%, respectively [EOS]. However, β-[18F] FHA was not labeled at all due to a fast elimination reaction. The biodistribution study in ICR-mice showed that ω-[18F]FHA has higher myocardial uptake and lower liver uptake than α-[18F]FHA. The electron-withdrawing effect of fluorine at α- position is believed to be the major factor affecting the biodistribution
