Background: The medicinal uses of plants are in many cases based exclusively on traditional knowledge without enough scientific evidences. Different parts of Moringa oleifera were traditionally used for the treatment of wide variety of ailments including arthritis and joints pain. The present study had been designed to evaluate the anti-arthritic and anti-nociceptive activities of ethanol extract of Moringa leaves, this being the most abundant plant part suitable for commercial mass production of botanical medicinal products. Methods: Complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced arthritis in rats was used as disease model. CFA-induced inflammatory paw edema, body weight, arthritic index, X-ray radiography, hematological parameters, and walk track and locomotion analysis were all evaluated for the assessment of disease progression. In addition to that, anti-nociceptive activity was examined at different dose levels in both normal and arthritic-induced rats using Eddy's hot plate and tail flick thermal analgesia. Results: The analysis of various arthritic assessment parameters used in this study revealed that Moringa extract has a considerable effect in preventing development or ameliorate arthritis disease severity. Moreover, the ethanol extract of Moringa leaves revealed significant anti-nociceptive activity at in both normal and CFA-induced arthritis rats in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of Moringa leaves appears to be a really promising as analgesic and arthritis medication, but a larger and more detailed preclinical and clinical studies especially in human is highly recommended.
Curing Study of the New Silane Monomers and Their IPNs

Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) that have silane resins as one of their components are industrially important due to their physical and chemical properties. The current study included preparation and characterization of two types of unsaturated silane monomers in order to prepare new types of IPNs with unsaturated polyesters (palatal). These monomers were characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (<SUP>1</SUP>H NMR), and their molecular weights were determined by cryoscopy technique. The curing properties of the silane monomers and the IPNs were observed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and several of thermal curing functions were determined, such as the initial curing temperature, optimum curing temperature, curing energy, activation energy and rate of curing. There was a significant decrease in the initial and maximum curing temperatures compared with the unsaturated polyester resin (palatal) due to the decrease in the activation energy from 105.4 to 77.3 ºC when the allyoxy silane monomer percentage was shifted from 5 to 20%. Meanwhile, the activation energy for the IPNs based on α-methyl-butenoxy silane decreased from 96.8 to 55.8 kJ/mol.
Nonlinear Dynamic Response of Tension Leg Platform under Environmental Loads

This paper investigated the platform motion and tether tension of tension leg platform subjected to eight sea states ranging from extreme to moderate states. The mass, stiffness and damping force matrices were formulated for the platform and the tethers were considered as non-linear springs. The surface elevation and wave kinematics were calculated by small wave amplitude theory. On the other hand, the force vector was calculated by integrating over the entire length of the hull members using Morison equation. The various degree of non-linearity considered include the drag force, the variable added mass, large displacement as well as variations in tether tension. A finite element numerical research program was developed for solution of the nonlinear problem. The statistical response parameters for the degrees of freedom show that as we move towards the less severe sea states, all the responses were decreasing. Response comparison of one tether missing and an intact tendon of tension leg platform show an increase in surge and tether tension but heave response decreased due to reduction in stiffness against vertical movement. Dynamic analysis of the platform under the combined action of wave, current and wind is recommended so as to know true platform behaviours.
