      • <i>CYP2A6</i> and <i>ERCC1</i> polymorphisms correlate with efficacy of S-1 plus cisplatin in metastatic gastric cancer patients

        <P><B>Background:</B></P><P>We evaluated the association between polymorphisms of cytochrome P450 2A6 (<I>CYP2A6</I>)/excision repair cross-complementation group 1 (<I>ERCC1</I>)/X-ray repair cross-complementing group 1(<I>XRCC1</I>) and treatment outcomes of metastatic gastric cancer (MGC) patients treated with S-1/cisplatin.</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>Among MGC patients (<I>n</I>=108), who received S-1 (40 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP> b.i.d., days 1–14) and cisplatin (60 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP>, day 1) every 3 weeks, we analysed the wild-type allele (<I>W</I>) and variants (<I>V</I>) of <I>CYP2A6</I> (<I>*4</I>, <I>*7, *9, *10</I>), and the polymorphisms of <I>ERCC1</I> (rs11615, rs3212986) and <I>XRCC1</I> (rs25487).</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>Patients having fewer <I>CYP2A6</I> variants had better response rates (<I>W</I>/<I>W vs W</I>/<I>V</I> other than <I>*1/*4 vs V</I>/<I>V</I> or <I>*1/*4</I>=66.7 <I>vs</I> 58.3 <I>vs</I> 32.3% <I>P</I>=0.008), time to progression (TTP) (7.2 <I>vs</I> 6.1 <I>vs</I> 3.5 months, <I>P</I>=0.021), and overall survival (23.2 <I>vs</I> 15.4 <I>vs</I> 12.0 months, <I>P</I>=0.004). <I>ERCC1 19442C</I>><I>A</I> (rs3212986) was also associated with response rate (<I>C/C</I>, 46.7% <I>vs C/A</I>, 55.3% <I>vs A/A</I>, 87.5%) (<I>P</I>=0.048) and TTP (4.4 <I>vs</I> 7.6 <I>vs</I> 7.9 months) (<I>P</I>=0.012). Patients carrying both risk genotypes of <I>CYP2A6</I> (<I>V</I>/<I>V</I> or <I>1/*4</I>) and <I>ERCC1 19442C</I>><I>A</I> (<I>C/C</I>) <I>vs</I> those carrying none showed an adjusted odds ratio of 0.113 (<I>P</I>=0.004) for response, and adjusted hazard ratios of 3.748 (<I>P</I>=0.0001) for TTP and 2.961 (<I>P</I>=0.006) for death.</P><P><B>Conclusion:</B></P><P>Polymorphisms of <I>CYP2A6</I> and <I>ERCC1 19442C</I>><I>A</I> correlated with the efficacy of S-1/cisplatin.</P>

      • Phase I/II study of S-1 combined with weekly docetaxel in patients with metastatic gastric carcinoma

        We designed a phase I/II trial of S-1 combined with weekly docetaxel to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and recommended dose (RD) and to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity in metastatic gastric carcinoma (MGC). Patients with measurable disease received S-1 orally b.i.d. on days 1–14 and docetaxel intravenously on days 1 and 8 every 3 weeks. In phase I (n=30), each cohort received escalating doses of S-1 (30–45 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP> b.i.d.) and docetaxel (25–40 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP>); MTD was 45 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP> b.i.d. S-1/35 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP> docetaxel and RD was 40 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP> b.i.d. S-1/35 mg m<SUP>−2</SUP> docetaxel. Dose-limiting toxicities included grade 3 elevated liver enzymes, gastric perforation, grade 3 diarrhoea/fatigue, febrile neutropenia with grade 3 anorexia/fatigue, and neutropenic infection with grade 3 stomatitis/anorexia. In phase II (n=52), the overall response rate was 66.7% (95% confidence interval (CI): 53.8–79.6%) and the median time to progression and overall survival were 6.5 months (95% CI: 4.9–8.1) and 13.7 months (95% CI: 9.9–17.5), respectively. The most common grade 3/4 toxicity was neutropenia (29.4%), and febrile neutropenia/neutropenic infection occurred in 19.6% of patients. Non-haematological toxicities were generally mild. There was one treatment-related death due to pneumonitis.         Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate correlation among sexual knowledge, attitude and Barriers to patient’s sexual health of nursing undergraduate students and to provide objective data to promote sexual health-care. Method: Using a descriptive correlation, 304 nursing undergraduate students were recruited through convenience random sampling from August 1st to December 20th, 2016. Data were analyzed using average, standard deviation, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson’s correlation and Multiple linear regression analysis using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The correlation between Sexual knowledge and Sexual attitude is statistically significant(r=.289, p<.01). As the level of sexual knowledge is higher, the sexual attitude is more open. And, Sexual knowledge(r=-.307,p<.01) and Sexual attitude(r=.180,p=.002) had a negative relationship with Barriers to patient’s sexual health. Also, Sexual knowledge was the greatest influencing factor on Barriers to patient’s sexual health. Conclusion: This study showed as the level of Sexual knowledge is higher, the Sexual attitude is more open. As the degree of Sexual knowledge is lower, the Sexual attitude is more conservative, and Barriers to patient’s sexual health is more higher. Also, Sexual knowledge is the most influential factor on Barriers to patient’s sexual health.

      • 慶熙醫療院 附屬韓方病院의 韓藥豫製劑 및 個別藥材 使用實態에 關한 硏究

        In order to find out the current tendency of medication practiced for 8 years, 1980-1987, at the Oriental Medicine Hospital, Kyung-Hee University Medical Centre, the published data on the usage of herbal preparations and crude material medica were further analysed. In practice, four doctrines of prescriptions are currently in use in Korean traditional medicine, namely,(i) "sang-han" (originated from "Sang-Han-Lon") : (ii) "hu-se" (from so-called the late Chinese traditional medicine) : (iii) "sa-sang"(form Lee Chemas(李濟馬), Korean constitutional medicine) and (iv) oriental medical doctor's own empirical prescription. Some of important findings were as fellows : 1.The ratio between the use of two forms of medications packted herbs and herbal preparations(pills or liquid etc) was 59% and 41%. 2.Of 1,104 kinds of prescriptions available, numbers of prescriptions lead to consumption of more than 10,000 packets during any one year were 252, which occupied 23% of the total number of proscriptions issued. These 252 kinds of prescriptions were based on the following four doctrines perceived in Korean traditional medicine : "hu-se"(173 kinds or 69%) : "sa-sang"(52 or 20%) : doctor's own empirical(24 or 10%) and "sang-han"(3 or 1%). 3.The usage of 76 popular herbal preparations according to classification of disorders was : for general purpose, e.g., tonicum-21 kinds or 28% : gastroin-testinal disorders-17 or 22% ; neuro-psychiatric disorders-6 or 8% ; diseases of circulatory system-6 or 8% ; gynaecological disorders-5 or 7% : musculo-ske-letal disorders-4 or 5% ; paediatric disorders-4 or 5% etc etc in order. 4.The kind of prcscriptions which was ranked at the top in the consumption was "bo-hyul-an-shin-tang(補血安神湯)". A total of 313.914 packets was used for eight years. 5.The amount of the usage of crude herbs was highest for Fraxini cortex(陳皮). followed by Atractylodes rhizoma alba(白□), Angelicae gigantis(當歸), clycyrrhizae radix(甘草) and Dioscoreae rhizoma(山□). 6.The numbers of species of orudc herbs which were consumed more than 100kg during any one year were 131. Among them, diuretica comprising 11 material was ranked at the top.

        Activated Carbon Fibers from Chemically Modified Coal Tar Pitches

        Coal tar pitch was chemically modified with 10 wt% benzoquinone (BQ) to raise the softening point of isotropic pitch precursor and the precursor was melt-spun into pitch fibers, stabilized, carbonized and activated with steam at 900℃. The weight loss of carbon fiber-benzoquinone (CF-BQ) increased with the increase of activation time like other fibers, but was lower than those of Kureha fiber at the same activation time in spite of larger geometric surface area. Those adsorption isotherms fitted into 'Type I' according to Brunauer, Deming, Deming and Teller classification. However, there was very thin low-pressure hysteresis that lower closure points of the hysteresis are about 0.42-0.45. From the pore size distribution curves, there might be some micropores having narrow-necked bottle; a series of interconnected pore is more likely than discrete bottles. FT-IR studies showed that the functional groups such as carboxyl, quinone, and phenol were introduced to ACFs-BQ surface after steam activation. Methylene blue decolorization and iodine adsorption capacity of ACF-BQ increased linearly with the increase of specific surface area and was larger than that of ACF-Kureha at the same specific surface area.

        OGLE-2016-BLG-1190Lb: The First<i>Spitzer</i>Bulge Planet Lies Near the Planet/Brown-dwarf Boundary

        <P>We report the discovery of OGLE-2016-BLG-1190Lb, which is likely to be the first Spitzer microlensing planet in the Galactic bulge/ bar, an assignation that can be confirmed by two epochs of high-resolution imaging of the combined source-lens baseline object. The planet's mass, M-p = 13.4 +/- 0.9 M-J, places it right at the deuteriumburning limit, i. e., the conventional boundary between 'planets' and 'brown dwarfs.' Its existence raises the question of whether such objects are really ' planets' (formed within the disks of their hosts) or 'failed stars' (lowmass objects formed by gas fragmentation). This question may ultimately be addressed by comparing disk and bulge/bar planets, which is a goal of the Spitzer microlens program. The host is a G dwarf, M-host = 0.89. +/- 0.07 M-circle dot, and the planet has a semimajor axis a similar to 2.0 au. We use Kepler K2 Campaign 9 microlensing data to break the lens-mass degeneracy that generically impacts parallax solutions from Earth-Spitzer observations alone, which is the first successful application of this approach. The microlensing data, derived primarily from near-continuous, ultradense survey observations from OGLE, MOA, and three KMTNet telescopes, contain more orbital information than for any previous microlensing planet, but not quite enough to accurately specify the full orbit. However, these data do permit the first rigorous test of microlensing orbital-motion measurements, which are typically derived from data taken over < 1% of an orbital period.</P>

        Isothermal vapor-liquid equilibria(VLE) for binary systems of C₂∼C₄ alcohol+iso-octane were measured by headspace gas chromatography(HSGC) at 60℃. All the binary mixtures showed the positive deviation from the Raoult's law and homogeneous minimum azeotropes. VLE data were correlated by common ge models and compared with calculated values by modified UNFAC group contribution method. Their mean deviations of vapor phase composition were less than 1%. Precise azeotropic concentrations were also measured directly by spining band distillator for each binary systems.

      • Co-sputtering of Ni-GDC Anode for Thin-film SOFCs Operating on Nearly Dry Methane at Low Temperature

        Direct-methane solid oxide fuel cells (DMSOFCs) have attracted much attention owing to the simplified system, reduced cost, and direct availability of methane fuel obtained from natural gas. Among oxygen-ion conductive materials, doped-ceria such as gadolinium-doped ceria (GDC) or samarium-doped ceria can be incorporated into Ni-based anodes to reinforce the coking resistance, enlarge the electrochemical reaction area, and improve the kinetics of internal reforming/electrochemical oxidation of methane. In order to lower the operating temperature range while maintaining performance of DMSOFCs, a thin-film deposition technique was adopted in this work. Anodized aluminum oxide (AAO)-supported thin-film cells with Ni-GDC anode/Yttria-stabilized zirconia electrolyte/Pt cathode structure were fabricated by magnetron-sputtering. Ni-GDC volume fraction was controlled by co-sputtering power of Ni-GDC deposition. These cells with different GDC volume fraction were tested under an operation condition of methane fuel with low S/C ratio (3% H₂O) and low temperature (500℃). Effects of GDC volume fraction on open circuit voltage (OCV) and electrochemical performance were demonstrated. As GDC volume fraction increases, OCV over 1.0 V is successfully achieved and the performance was improved up to an optimal composition. Long-term stability and resistance to carbon coking was evaluated by FE-SEM and XPS techniques.
