<P>We have investigated optical and structural properties of various In<SUB>0.5</SUB>Ga<SUB>0.5</SUB>As quantum dot (QD) structures as a function of stacking number, grown by atomic layer molecular beam epitaxy (ALE). We found that the excitation power and temperature dependence of well-separated two emissions from 10 stacked InGaAs QD samples are different from those of other QDs with the stacking numbers of 1, 3 and 5. Although the GaAs spacer thickness is ∼35 nm at which the strain field penetration can be ignored for Stranski–Krastanov mode-grown InAs QDs, our ALE-grown QDs are influenced by the strain field penetration due to the larger size of ALE QDs. From transmission electron microscopic images, we observed that the ten stacked QD sample has a complex QD size distribution predominantly due to vertical size variation with stacking and that upper stacked (5–10) QD layers are vertically realigned due to the merged strain field penetration between laterally coupled QDs. </P>

This study was conducted to determine the pattern of self-incompatibility through self-and cross-pollination in two varieties of herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pallas). After self-pollination with the pollens of same variety, pollen tubes have germinated and grown into style tissue. However, the pollen tubes have arrested the growth in the mid of growing stage. This pattern was a different from that of sporophytic self-incompatibility. In the case of sporophytic self-incompatibility, self-pollinated pollens are not germinated on the style in normal, but if the pollens do, they do not penetrate into style tissue. From these phenomena, the pattern of self-incompatibility in herbaceous peony is assumed gametophytic self-incompatibility. For more precise research, protein analysis using SDS-PAGE and RNase activity stain gel electrophoresis was conducted. In SDS-PAGE analysis, two major proteins (21.5 and 28-kDa) was detected, and ribonuclease activity was tested in activity stain gel. Ribonucleatic activity is a unique characteristic of stylar proteins of gametophytic self-incompatibility plants reported previously. From these results, we concluded that P. lactiflora has a gametophytic self-incompatibility.
Numerical analysis for supercavitating flows around axisymmetric cavitators

Diffuse interface model for numerical analysis was used to compute supercavitating flows around various cavitators. The ambient pressures of 2 atm permitted cavitation studies in a range of cavitation number, ${\sigma}=0.1$ to 1.0 on selected conical and disk-headed cavitors. The computed results were compared with relation by Reichardt. Drag coefficient obtained from pressure forces acting on the cavitator also compared well with those obtained from analytical relations.

AlxGa1−xN/GaN films were grown on sapphire substrate by using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition, and their structural, electrical, and optical properties were systematically investigated by using atomic force microscopy, high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), Hall measurements, and photoluminescence (PL). The strain states and the mosaic properties of the AlGaN and GaN layers were studied by using the (10·5) asymmetric reciprocal space maps (RSMs). From the RSMs, we confirmed that the crystal lattice of the Al0.13Ga0.89N film was fully strained and that the crystal quality was good. From the PL and the HRXRD data, we observed that a certain range of Si doping could cause a small variation of Al incorporation during the growth of the AlGaN film, resulting in a variation in the Al content and the crystal quality of the AlGaN layer. From the results, we conclude that moderate Si-doping improves the optical and the structural properties of Al0.11Ga0.89N films.
항암제를 투여한 세포주의 배양액에서 M30을 이용한 고사의 측정

목적: 부인종양에서 실시되는 신보조항암화학요법의 효율성을 증가시키기 위해서는 약제들에 대한 반응을 조기에 예측할 수있는 측정법이 절실히 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 부인종양의 치료에 흔히 사용되는 항암화학요법제의 투여 후에 배양된 세포들과 이들의 배양액내에서 유발된 고사의 정도를 M30 항원을 이용하여 측정함으로써 약제에 대한 반응의 생화학적 지표로서 사용 가능성이 있는지를 알아보았다. 연구 방법: 배양한 HeLa와 OVCAR-3 세포주에 paclitaxel, cisplatin 및 camptothecin의 저농도와 고농도를 각각 투여한 후 수확한 세포들과 배양액내에서 면역형광염색법과 ELISA에 의해 M30 항원을 측정하였다. 결과: 세포질과 배양액내에서 M30 항원의 정도를 각각 측정한 결과는 비투여 대조군으로부터 항암요법제의 투여 농도가 저농도와 고농도로 증가됨에 따라 M30 항원의 수준이 점차적으로 유의하게 증가함을 관찰하였다. HeLa와 OVCAR-3 세포들에서 M30-fluoresein isothiocyanate (FITC)의 면역형광이 양성인 세포들은 대조군에서 각각 4.3%와 4.07%였다. 약제의 농도 (저농도 vs 고농도)에 따라 paclitaxel의 경우에는 18.61%와 18.6% vs 34.87%와 32.63%로 증가되었고, cisplatin의 경우에는 17.87%와 16.83% vs 32.38%와 32%로 증가되었으며, camptothecin의 경우에는 17.87%와 16.83% vs 32.38%와 32%로 점차 유의하게 증가하는 모습이 괄찰되었다 (P<0.001). 또한 HeLa와 OVCAR-3 세포들의 배양액내에서 ELISA에 의해 측정된 M30 항원의 값은 대조군에서 각각 53.03 U/L와 86 U/L이었다. 약제의 농도 (저농도 vs 고농도)에 따라 paclitaxel의 경우에는 101.53 U/L와 114 U/L vs 355.59 U/L와 412.04 U/L이었고, cisplatin의 경우에는 79.84 U/L와 125.44 U/L vs 327.64 U/L와 385.09 U/L이었으며, camptothecin의 경우에는 88.41 U/L와 108.42 U/L vs 295.005 U/L와 263.1 U/L로 증가함을 관찰하였다 (P<0.001). 결론: 본 연구를 통해 HeLa와 OVCAR-3 세포주에서 paclitaxel, cisplatin과 camptothecin을 투여한 후 수확한 세포들과 배양액내에서 고사의 지표로서 측정한 M30 항원이 증가한 결과들은 암세포의 항암요법제에 대한 감수성의 조기 평가에 유용할 것으로 생각되었다. Objective: We investigated a possible use of the induced apoptosis as a biomarker in the cells and their media treated with commonly used anti-cancer agents in gynecologic malignancies. Methods: After treatments with low and high concentrations of paclitaxel, cisplatin, and camptothecin in HeLa and OVCAR-3 cells, the levels of M30 antigen were detected in the cells and their media by immunofluorescence staining and ELISA methods, respectively. Results: The percentages of M30-fluoresein isothiocyanate (FITC) positive cells in HeLa and OVCAR-3 cells treated with paclitaxel, cisplatin, and camptothecin were 4.3% vs 18.1% vs 34.87% and 4.07% vs 18.6% vs 32.63%, 4.3% vs 17.87% vs 32.38% and 4.07% vs 16.83% vs 32%, and 4.3% vs 16.75% vs 31.3% and 4.07% vs 15.18% vs 29.9% in control, low dose, and hight dose groups, respectively (P<0.001). M30 antigen levels (U/L) measured in culture media of HeLa and OVCAR-3 cells treated with paclitaxel, cisplatin, and camptothecin were 53.03 vs 101.53 vs 355.59 and 86 vs 114.41 vs 412.04, 53.03 vs 79.84 vs 327.64 and 86 vs 125.44 vs 385.09, and 53.03 vs 88.41 vs 295.005 and 86 vs 108.42 vs 263.1 in control, low dose, and hight dose groups, respectively (P<0.001). Conclusion: Our results obtained in this preclinical study suggests that measurement of the levels of M30 antigen may help to predict the clinical responses and to select the effective anti-cancer agents in clinical settings, rapidly and quantitatively.

In the present study, a fully coupled FSI(Fluid-Structure Interaction) analysis has been made to predict the flutter of a three dimensional wing. The FSI computation was made by the information exchange between CFD solution and FEM solution at each time step. Converged CFD solutions were obtained and used as the initial flow fields of the FSI computation. An unstructured FEM mesh was constructed for FEM calculation. Results of the fully coupled FSI computation were compared with those of an unsteady CFD solution, which showed why the FSI computation was essential for flutter analysis.
