현재 디지털 기술의 핵심인 임베디드 시스템은 2010년 국민소득 2만불 달성이라는 국가 발전 목표의 실현을 위한 핵심 산업으로 2003년 8월 10개 신성장동력 산업의 핵심육성 분야로 선정되었다. 하지만, 특수한 목적을 위한 다양한 임베디드 시스템은 개발 및 유지 보수 비용과 개발 기간이 장기화 됨으로써 시장경쟁력 약화의 원인이 된다. 본 논문에서는 임베디드 시스템의 신뢰성 있는 개발을 위한 방법으로 가상프로토타이핑을 제안한다. 소프트웨어와 하드웨어로 각각 구현될 도메인을 선정하여 플랫폼 라이브러리에 등록되고 통합된 시뮬레이션을 통한 검증을 수행함으로써 제조 공정이 다른 여러기능의 블록을 집적하는 기술을 가상플랫폼을 기반으로 가상프로토타이핑한다.

Purpose: Oxidative stress has been implicated in thepathogenesis of various diseases. Catalase is one ofthe main defense mechanisms against oxidativestress. To exam ine the possible relationship betweenoxidative stress, and gastric and hepatocellular carcinomas,HinfI restriction length polymorphism (RFLP)in the human catalase gene was assessed.Materials and Methods: The genotype and allelefrequencies in the promoter region of the catalasegene were studied by PCR-RFLP in 108 Koreancontrols, 80 Korean gastric carcinoma (GC) and 106Korean hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.Results: No statistically significant differences werefound in the genotypic distribution and allelic frequenciesbetween the controls and both types ofcarcinoma patient.Conclusion: To address the possible contribution ofoxidative stresses to the pathogenesis of gastric andhepatocellular carcinomas, the associations betweenthe catalase gene polymorphism and GC and HCCsusceptibilities were studied. As a result, the catalasegene polymorphism was found not to be determinantof GC and HCC susceptibilities. Further studies arerequired on various other oxidative stress relatedgenes to elucidate the mechanisms of GC and HCC.(Cancer Res Treat. 2002;34:432-435)
Study on improving the design of Outdoor Signage for Choenho-dong Rodeo Street

Seoul suffers from over congestion of outdoor signage. Signage is on everywhere including on windows, on entrance way, on every available space on the building wall. The excessiveness is up to the point that decorating surface of a building is almost meaningless and most signage is lost in each others profuse presence. The competition to attract more attention is resulting in bigger, brighter, and more stimulating signage. As the result, outdoor signage of Seoul have lost its intended function to provide useful information and befallen to be viewed as visual pollution.As it is an important visual element of city view, the outdoor signage also serves important role of delivering needed information in proper way to enhance convenience of city life. At the same time, it is a very important marketing tool that is essential to economic activity. Outdoor signage also holds enormous potential to act as a visual and structural element to improve city view just as a beautiful architecture does.However, outdoor signage that does not consider the harmony with its surrounding environment can only be treated as visual pollution. The effort of Seoul to better the city view by improving the outdoor signage started at Jong-ro area. By reforming outdoor signage, the streets of Jong-ro achieved much more harmonious and aesthetically pleasing city view.The study went through analysis of current status and characteristics of outdoor signage of Cheonho-dong Rodeo Street, Gangdong district to suggest detailed design solution to reform the roadside view and to revitalize the street.

Background/Aims: Fabry disease is an X-linked recessive and progressive disease caused by α-galactosidase A (α-GaL A) deficiency. We sought to assess the prevalence of unrecognized Fabry disease in dialysis-dependent patients and the efficacy of serum globotriaosylceramide (GL3) screening. Methods: A total of 480 patients of 1,230 patients among 17 clinics were enrolled. Serum GL3 levels were measured by tandem mass spectrometry. Additionally, we studied the association between increased GL3 levels and cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, or left ventricular hypertrophy. Results: Twenty-nine patients had elevated serum GL3 levels. The α-GaL A activity was determined for the 26 patients with high GL3 levels. The mean α-GaL A activity was 64.6 nmol/hr/mg (reference range, 45 to 85), and no patient was identified with decreased α-GaL A activity. Among the group with high GL3 levels, 15 women had a α-GaL A genetics analysis. No point mutations were discovered among the women with high GL3 levels. No correlation was observed between serum GL3 levels and α-GaL A activity; the Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.01352 (p = 0.9478). No significant correlation was observed between increased GL3 levels and the frequency of cardiovascular disease or cerebrovascular disease. Conclusions: Fabry disease is very rare disease in patients with end-stage renal disease. Serum GL3 measurements as a screening method for Fabry disease showed a high false-positive rate. Thus, serum GL3 levels determined by tandem mass spectrometry may not be useful as a screening method for Fabry disease in patients with end stage renal disease. (Korean J Intern Med 2010;25:415-421)
Scopulariopsis brevicaulis에 의한 발톱 조갑진균증 4예

Although dermatophytes are still the main etiologic agents of onychomycosis, some species of nondermatophytic molds and yeasts are also capable of invading the nails. Scopulariopsis (S.) brevicaulis is a nondermatophytic mold which is saprophytic fungus in soil. We report flour cases of toenail onychomycosis caused by S. brevicaulis in a 42-year-old male, a 46-year-old male, a 37-year-old male, and a 64-year-old male. Three patients presented with a typical distal subungual onychomycosis and one case was proximal subungual onychomycosis. Direct microscopic examination of scrapings on the potassium hydroxide preparation revealed fungal elements in all cases. Cultures from toenail lesions of the all patients on Sabouraud dextrose agar showed a typical brown colony with powdery surface of S. brevicaulis. Numerous branched conidiophores with chains of lemon-shaped conidia with rough walled were observed in slide culture and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). We confirmed S. brevicaulis by colony, light microscopic morphology and SEM. [Kor J Med Mycol 6(2): 97-103]
