Background: Since the breast is strongly relevant to sexual desire, and physical and sexual attractiveness, the high prevalence of breast cancer (BC) in Iran and long-term survival of patients experiencing side effects means that measures to identify associated sexual problems are necessary. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess sexual function and affecting factors in women with BC. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 94 women with BC, referred to Imam Reza (AS) Hospital, Mashhad, Iran, in 2014. The data were collected through demographic and clinical questionnaires and also a sexual function questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 16. Results: The total score of women's sexual function was about $24.3{\pm}4.41$. Of the total, 63 (71.3%) reported sexual dysfunction, for example reduced satisfaction or more pain. Age was the only significantly related factor. Conclusions: Breast cancer can adversely affect women's sexual function and decrease quality of life. Thus, taking measures to overcome women's sexual problems are necessary.

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) hydrogel as a temperatureresponsive polymer was prepared through controlled process using reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The hydrogel was then amino modified using a biocompatible polyamine i.e. spermine and next the antitumor cisplatin drug was conjugated to the modified hydrogel via pH-sensitive spermine linkage. This system had a pH dependency and temperature sensitivity at lower critical solution temperature (LCST). Cisplatin potentially is liberated from the carrier in the acidic environment. However, the release of cisplatin from this polymeric system is increased considerably around the transition temperature of the polymer. The drug release manner of the prepared hydrogel was determined at two pH values (5.5 and 7.4) and three temperatures (37, 40 and 42℃) at different time intervals. The in vitro toxicity assessment was conducted on MCF-7 cell line which showed the system efficiency in killing breast cancer cells.

Nowadays, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and cognitive dysfunction are major health problems among female. This narrative review aimed to investigate cognitive dysfunction in female with PCOS. English and Persian articles published in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, PsycINFO, Scientific Information Database, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews until May 2022 were searched. Sixteen studies involving 850 female with PCOS and 974 controls were assessed. In these studies, the association between biochemical factors and symptoms of PCOS and memory, attention, executive functioning, information processing speed, and visuospatial skills was evaluated. The literature review revealed the possible cognitive changes in female with PCOS. This study summarized the different aspects of cognitive function in female with PCOS due to medication, psychological problems (mood disorders caused by disease symptoms and complications), and biochemical markers, such as metabolic and sex hormone abnormalities. Considering the existing scientific gap regarding the possibility of cognitive complications in female with PCOS, further biological studies should be conducted to evaluate the potential mechanisms involved.

The complexes [Pd(bpy)(Hex-dtc)]NO_3 and [Pt(bpy)(Hex-dtc)]NO_3 (bpy is 2,2'-bipyridine and Hex-dtc is hexyldithiocarbamato ligands) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic studies. The cytotoxicity assay of the complexes has been performed on chronic myelogenous leukemia cell line, K562, at micromolar concentration. Both complexes showed cytotoxic activity far better than that of cisplatin under the same experimental conditions. The binding parameters of the complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was investigated using UV-visible and fluorescence techniques. They show the ability of cooperatively intercalating in CT-DNA. Gel filtration studies demonstrated that platinum complex could cleave the DNA. In the interaction studies between the Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes with CT-DNA, several binding and thermodynamic parameters have been determined, which may provide deeper insights into the mechanism of action of these types of complexes with nucleic acids.

Valproic acid (VPA) is widely used antiepileptic agent which is associated with reproductive toxicity via impairment in oxidative redox. Zinc (Zn) and selenium (Se) are trace element with antioxidant effect that known to be essential for spermatogenesis. In the current study, the protective effect of co-administration of Zn and Se on VPA-induced reproductive toxicity in male rats was evaluated. Forty-eight male rats were divided into 8 groups of six (n=6): Control group (treated with normal saline); VPA only (250, 500, 1,000 mg/kg) group; VPA (500 mg/kg) plus Zn (2 mg/kg) group; VPA (500 mg/kg) plus Se (1.5 mg/kg) group; VPA (500 mg/kg) plus a combination of Zn and Se group; and VPA+vitamin E (20 mg/kg) group. The Animals were sacrificed after 28 days of treatment and sperm analysis was taken. Also, evaluation of oxidative stress markers including malondialdehyde (MDA), protein carbonyl (PC), glutathione (GSH) and histopathological changes were done on testis tissue. Morphological changes and a significant decrease in motility and sperm count in rats treated with VPA were observed. Also, an increase in oxidative stress marker, including MDA and PC and a decrease in GSH level was evident in VPA group. Zn and Se administration was able to protect against sperm abnormality, ameliorate the histological change in testis tissue, and suppressed the increase in oxidative stress markers induced by VPA. These results indicated that combination therapy with Zn and Se showed better an ameliorative effect than each one alone. Therefore, it can be suggested as an effective supplement for reproductive impairment in VPA-treated patient.

Objectives: The health system reform process is highly political and controversial, and in most cases, it fails to realize its intended goals. This study was conducted to synthesize factors underlying the failure of health system reforms. Methods: In this systematic review and meta-synthesis, we searched 9 international and regional databases to identify qualitative and mixed-methods studies published up to December 2019. Using thematic synthesis, we analyzed the data. We utilized the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research checklist for quality assessment. Results: After application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 40 of 1837 articles were included in the content analysis. The identified factors were organized into 7 main themes and 32 sub-themes. The main themes included: (1) reforms initiators’ attitudes and knowledge; (2) weakness of political support; (3) lack of interest group support; (4) insufficient comprehensiveness of the reform; (5) problems related to the implementation of the reform; (6) harmful consequences of reform implementation; and (7) the political, economic, cultural, and social conditions of the society in which the reform takes place. Conclusions: Health system reform is a deep and extensive process, and shortcomings and weaknesses in each step have overcome health reform attempts in many countries. Awareness of these failure factors and appropriate responses to these issues can help policymakers properly plan and implement future reform programs and achieve the ultimate goals of reform: to improve the quantity and quality of health services and the health of society.
