        In 2019, the daily generation of food waste in Korea was 14,314 tons, which is a steady increase compared to the past. To efficiently use food waste as an effective resource, composting and feeding are carried out. In Korea, attention is gradually focused on a sustainable resource circulation society. Compost made of food waste has problems with foreign substances, heavy metals, and salt content, and solid fuelization research is being actively conducted to compensate for this. In this study, infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), organic content measurement(TGA), and chemical composition were measured to compare the fuel characteristics with wood pellets, which are major solid fuels, in order to examine the physical and chemical properties of food waste compost.

        This study covers amenity analysis of the subway 1st line and improvements focusing on the easiness, amenity, safeties, and elements of amenity. When people come to the entrance of a subway station, they pay careful attention to easiness of use, amenity and locality of the area. Therefore, by getting rid of unnecessary stairways, we can minimize the economical loss secure the easiness of use and stability. At the same time, well designed planters and trees dedicated to boulevards which can increase the ratio of green space. Furthermore, each gate of subway stations should have the identity of the area. Finally, we suggest those facts which are mentioned above should not be repeated that when designing the Pusan subway line 2nd line which is under construction.

      • Reduced expression and homozygous deletion of annexin A10 in gastric carcinoma

        <P>Annexins (ANXs) are a family of calcium and phospholipid binding proteins that have been implicated in diverse important biological and physiological process. ANX A10 (ANXA10) is a member of this family, though little is known about its functions. In the present study, array based comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) was used to screen DNA copy number change in gastric cancer cell lines and the results obtained were compared with oligonucleotide microarray data. DNA loss of the ANXA10 locus in chromosome 4q33 was found in several gastric cancer cell lines by array based CGH and these cell lines showed decreased ANXA10 expression by oligonucleotide microarray analysis. Functional analysis using siRNA and full-length cDNA transfection in gastric cancer cell lines demonstrated that ANXA10 regulates gastric cancer cell proliferation. Of the 585 primary gastric carcinoma tissues examined, ANXA10 expression at the protein level was found to be reduced in 289 (49.4%) cases. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis validated loss of DNA at the ANXA10 locus in gastric carcinomas with reduced ANXA10 expression. By univariate survival analysis, lack of ANXA10 expression was associated with poor survival (p = 0.016). These results suggest that ANXA10 inactivation by chromosomal deletion may play a role during gastric cancer progression. © 2009 UICC</P>

      • 유기질비료 시비량에 따른 오미자 묘목의 초기 생육특성에 관한 연구

        This study was carried out to have basic and applied informations to find the optimum nitrogen fertilization level for organic cultivation and to investigate early growth characteristics of Schizandra chinensis Baillon. Different application levels of the organic fertilizer were based on the recommended rate of N fertilizer. Five different levels of the organic fertilizer were applied to S. chinensis and early growth responses such as the length of vine, the diameter of vine, the number of leaves, and the number of branches were investigated. Lengths of main and total vines were shown longer at the level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer than those at others. The vine length at early growth was the highest at the level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer among the treatments. Stem diameter was shown thicker level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer than others on August and September, whereas on October it was the thickest in the conventional cultivation. Number of leaf was increased higher at the level of 1.0 and 2.0 times organic fertilizer than that in the compared to conventional. The number of branches was appeared the lowest at the level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer at early growth, however they were increased through progressing their growth stages. They were not significantly difference among the treatments except for the level of 2.0 times organic fertilizer. Based on the research results, the growth of S. chinensis was commonly higher at the level of 1.0 time organic fertilizer compared to other treatments.

        우리나라 일부 석면사업장의 석면폐 유병률

        Asbestos industry has been in operation over 60 years in Korea. However, the prevalence of asbestosis has not been yet reported. With rapid turn-over of workers, previous cross-sectional studies of current workers on the job could not find cases with exposures long enough for the development of asbestosis. This study was done to evaluate asbestosis prevalence of those worksites with operation history of more than 20 years. In total, 139 workers from 5 worksites were examined. Asbestos industries covered in the study include 2 asbestos textile, 1 brake lining, and 2 ship repairing worksites. Chest x-ray was taken from all workers and read by two experts familiar with pneumoconiosis classification according to 1980 ILO guidelines. Those with findings compatible with asbestosis were further ckecked with high resolution computerized tomography (HRCT). Pulmonary function tests were done according to ATS guidelines, and occupational and previous medical history was taken through a standardized interview. Air-borne asbestos was measured according to NIOSH method 7400. The air-borne asbestos concentrations ranged from 0.2-1.3 f/cc for asbestos textile, from 0.7-1.0 f/cc for brake lining, and from 6.3-7.8 f/cc during asbestos removal at ship repairing worksite. Of the 139 workers 25 had abnormal chest radiographic findings, and 10 of them had findings compatible with pneumoconiosis. When work history and current asbestos measurements were accounted, 9 workers who had more than 10 years of asbestos exposure history showed chest radiographic findings of pneumoconiosis with Finally, 4 workers showed finding of pulmonary fibrosis and/or pleural thickening at HRCT, and 2 of them had restrictive lung function changes. The study results showed that, among 139 subjects, there were 4(3%) definite asbestosis cases confirmed with HRCT. The prevalence of probable asbestosis was 7% for 10-14 years of exposure, 13% for 15-19 years of exposure, and 23% for 20 or more years of exposure. The prevalence of compensable asbestosis with abnormal lung function was 4-6% for those with 15 or more years of exposure.

        Clinical features and outcomes of systemic amyloidosis with gastrointestinal involvement: a single-center experience

        Background/Aims: The gastrointestinal (GI) tract often becomes involved in patients with systemic amyloidosis. As few GI amyloidosis data have been reported,we describe the clinical features and outcomes of patients with pathologically proven GI amyloidosis. Methods: We identified 155 patients diagnosed with systemic amyloidosis between April 1995 and April 2013. Twenty-four patients (15.5%) were diagnosed with GI amyloidosis using associated symptoms, and the diagnoses were confirmed bydirect biopsy. Results: Among the 24 patients, 20 (83.3%) had amyloidosis light chain (AL), three (12.5%) had amyloid A, and one (4.2%) had transthyretin-related type amyloidosis. Their median age was 57 years (range, 37 to 72), and 10 patients were female (41.7%).The most common symptoms of GI amyloidosis were diarrhea (11 patients, 45.8%), followed by anorexia (nine patients, 37.5%), weight loss, and nausea and/ or vomiting (seven patients, 29.2%). The histologically confirmed GI tract site in AL amyloidosis was the stomach in 11 patients (55.0%), the colon in nine (45.0%), the rectum in seven (35.0%), and the small bowel in one (5.0%). Patients with GIinvolvement had a greater frequency of organ involvement (p = 0.014). Median overall survival (OS) in patients with GI involvement was shorter (7.95 months; range, 0.3 to 40.54) than in those without GI involvement (15.84 months; range, 0.0 to 114.53; p = 0.069) in a univariate analysis. A multivariate analysis of prognostic factors for AL amyloidosis revealed that GI involvement was not a significant predictorof OS (p = 0.447). Conclusions: The prognosis of patients with AL amyloidosis and GI involvement was poorer than those without GI involvement, and they presented with more organ involvement and more advanced disease than those without organ involvement.

        초등학생들의 생태계 학습에서 시스템 사고의 적용 유형 분석

        This study was carried out under an assumption that system thinking is necessary to understand ecological concepts systematically. Based on the assumption, the goal of this study was to figure out how elementary students’ system thinking works during their lessons related to an ecosystem. For the study, students were playing a game to connect ecological concepts and drawing a causal loop map. Data from both activities were collected and analyzed. In this study, students’ system thinking was classified as four types; type A (High Concept-High System Thinking, HH), type B (High Concept-Low System Thinking, HL), type C (Low Concept-High System Thinking, LH), and type D (Low Concept-Low System, LL). In a result, among sixty participants, eight (13.3%) participants were placed in type A (HH) and six (10%) participants were placed in type B (HL) and type C (LH). Eighteen (30%) among sixty participants were placed in type D and others couldn’t be classified in any categories. It represents that both type D and non-classified participants (77%) could apply system thinking in their ecosystem lessons either non or a little. Especially, in terms of understanding both elements and any relationships among elements in an ecosystem, 40% participants were placed in type C and type D and it thus means students’ understanding related the concepts is not advisable. Considering an ecosystem as a system, any strategies to improve students’ system thinking in order to learn the concepts related to an ecosystem should be developed with details.

        Crystal structure of the protein A t3g01520, a eukaryotic universal stress protein‐like protein from <i>arabidopsis thaliana</i> in complex with AMP

        <P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>Members of the universal stress protein (USP) family are conserved in a phylogenetically diverse range of prokaryotes, fungi, protists, and plants and confer abilities to respond to a wide range of environmental stresses. <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I> contains 44 USP domain‐containing proteins, and USP domain is found either in a small protein with unknown physiological function or in an N‐terminal portion of a multi‐domain protein, usually a protein kinase. Here, we report the first crystal structure of a eukaryotic USP‐like protein encoded from the gene At3g01520. The crystal structure of the protein At3g01520 was determined by the single‐wavelength anomalous dispersion method and refined to an <I>R</I> factor of 21.8% (<I>R</I><SUB>free</SUB> = 26.1%) at 2.5 Å resolution. The crystal structure includes three At3g01520 protein dimers with one AMP molecule bound to each protomer, comprising a Rossmann‐like α/β overall fold. The bound AMP and conservation of residues in the ATP‐binding loop suggest that the protein At3g01520 also belongs to the ATP‐binding USP subfamily members.         보행계수기 기반 댄스스포츠 에너지소비량 추정식의 정확성과 노모그램의 제시

        The purpose of this study is to identify the accuracy of the step unit energy expenditure(cal/kg/step) of sports dancing(Chachacha, Jive) by using a pedometer as developed by Kim et al., (2005), and proposing nomograms. With this aim, the study selected 20 male and female college students in Seoul and the Gyeonggi area by event and by gender through a convenience sample, which totals 80 subjects(average age: 22.1±1.9yr). For a measuring instrument, a pedometer(Yamax SW-650, Japan) and indirect calorimeter(K4b2 Cosmed, Italy) were used, and the actual value was measured with the same procedure employed in the research by Kim et al., (2005). Also, the estimated value was calculated by applying a formula developed by Kim et al., (2005). The collected data was subject to SPSS 12.0, descriptive statistics (M, SD), and Person`s correlation coefficient(r) for confirming the relationship between the actual value and the estimated value of step unit energy expenditure. In order to verify the accuracy of the estimated value against the actual value, the TEM(Technical error of measurement), 95% CI(95% confidence level), and %TEM(relative TEM) were calculated by using MS-EXCEL; and nomograms were proposed by calculating step unit energy expenditure by weight (40kg, 60kg, 80kg, and 100kg). As a result of the research, the estimation formula for the step unit energy expenditure by using a pedometer was proven to overestimate the energy expenditure in general, and the estimation formula of males, particularly for Jive, was proven to have a relatively high accuracy (%TEM=6.57, 95% CI=275.03-357.42 cal/kg/step), whereas the estimation formula of females for Chachacha was proven to have a relatively low accuracy (%TEM=10.17, 95% CI=196.94-297.46 cal/kg/step). Also, the proposed nomograms enabled the estimation of step unit energy expenditure by using kilograms and step count. Therefore, through the results, the estimation formula of Kim et al.,(2005) was found to be relatively accurate, and it is believed to provide an objective estimation of energy expenditure and convenient calculation and give instant feedback through the proposed nomograms.
