Clonic facial spasm had attracted for attention of neurosurgeons for a long time. However the optimal way of treatment is not established yet. In this report, we are describing a case of clonic facial spasm treated by making a lesion on the facial nerve at stylomastoid foramen with radiofrequency lesion generator which has been applied for percutaneous cordotmy or percutaneous gasserian ganglionotomy.

There is a constant need for negative baric pressure suction apparatus in neurosurgical practice. This drainge unit should be able to drain fluid into a sterile and closed reservior. We have studied a technique employing the Wangensteen suction apparatus for postoperative drainage in craniotomy patients, particularly patients with subdural hematomas and patients having possibility of subgaleal hematomas. The advantages of this technique are; 1) Local postoperative complications such as hematoma, secondary infections and skin flap necrosis are reduced. 2) This technique leads to decrease in healing time. 3) Bulky bandages and redressing can be avoided. 4) It is a simple, economic and readily available technique. 5) The study of the suctions inside the transparent tubes gives good informations about the local situation in the wound.

Ten patients with trigeminal neuralgia were treated by the injection of glycerol into the trigeminal cistern. Eight patients became painless after the treatment, but one patient needed second injection for the relief of pain. Although follow-up period was less than one year these eight patients were free from pain without troublesome sensory changes. These preliminary results suggest that trigeminal neuralgia can be relieved by a simple percutaneous technique whose effect is not dependent on dense analgesia. But the long-term result of pain relief after the injection of glycerol remains to be determined.

Vascular compression in the root entry zone of trigeminal nerve at the brain stem is known as a cause of trigeminal neuralgia. After the first description of the n d decompression method for trigeminal neuralgia in the posterior fossa by Dandy in 1934, several other authors reported good results with this method. Since September 1978, The authors performed 29 neurovascular decompression for trigeminal nerve in 27 patients and all patients had relief from the neuralgic pain. The trigeminal nerves were compressed by blood vessels in 21 cases, by tumor in 3 cases and by arachnoid adhesion in 1 case. But in 2 cases there were no lesions compressing the nerve.

To evaluate efficiencies of the local exhaust systems installed in chromium and nickel electroplating tanks, specifications of each tank and general performances of the local exhaust systems were measured in 16 electroplating plants from July 3 to November 24, 1992. Airborne concentrations of total chromium, hexa-chromium and nickel were also measured. Most of the local exhaust systems installed in electroplating plants were inadequately designed. Average capture velocities of local exhaust systems in chromium and nickel tanks were 0.45 m/sec and 0.29 m/sec. Average slot velocities in chromium and nickel tanks were 7.30 m/sec and 2.87 m/sec respectively. Both average capture and slot velocities were in noncompliance with the standards recommended by American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Exhausted air volume was insufficient in all local exhaust systems surveyed. Worker exposure levels to total chromium, hexa-chromium and nickel were 43.0 ㎍/㎥, 1.7 ㎍/㎥ and 9.3 ㎍/㎥, which were below the Korean Standard and U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA) Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). However, Worker exposure level to hexa-chromium exceeded the NIOSH Recommended Exposure Limit(REL) of 1 ㎍/㎥. As the result of Scheffee's multiple comparions, worker exposure levels to all metals were significantly different between two groups by the management state of existing local exhaust systems (p$lt;0.05). However, Difference between a group with local exhaust systems which were poorly managed and another group without local exhaust system was satatistically non-significant.
Determination of the sample number for optical reflectance measurement of vegetable leaf

Visible and near-infrared spectroscopy provides a variety of information regarding leafy vegetables. However, various factors including optical propagation, environmental issues, and experimental issues affect the quality of spectral measurements. Therefore, stability and performance of optical reflectance sensors are affected significantly by sampling scheme. This study investigated the effects of the number of sampling on optical reflectance measurement of Chinese cabbage and kale plant leaves. For that purpose, variability and similarity of multiple measurements for different number of sampling of the leaves were evaluated. A combination of a median filter and the 2nd Savitzky-Golay (S. Golay) method was used to reduce the noise on the reflectance spectra introduced by background effects and other uncertainties. Reflectance difference and cross correlation were used as criteria to evaluate stability (or similarity) of the measurements. Results indicated that the standard deviation of reflectance difference was not considerably different for cabbage and kale leaves with 12 and 9 sampling points, respectively. For similarity of multiple measurements, results of cross correlation showed that the standard deviation of cross correlation was not greater than 5% with 12 and 9 sampling points for cabbage and kale leaves, respectively. Thus, this study concluded that 12 sampling points (cabbage) and 9 sampling points (kale) on a single leaf were the optimal number for spectral reflectance measurement. This study may provide guidelines on the number of sampling for optimum reflectance measurement of leafy vegetables.

<P>We report the discovery of a planet-mass companion to the microlens OGLE-2016-BLG-0263L. Unlike most low-mass companions that were detected through perturbations to the smooth and symmetric light curves produced by the primary, the companion was discovered through the channel of a repeating event, in which the companion itself produced its own single-mass light curve after the event produced by the primary had ended. Thanks to the continuous coverage of the second peak by high-cadence surveys, the possibility of the repeating nature due to source binarity is excluded with a 96% confidence level. The mass of the companion estimated by a Bayesian analysis is Mp = 4.1(-2.5)(+6.5) M-j. The projected primary-companion separation is a(perpendicular to) = 6.5(-1.9)(+1.3) au. The ratio of the separation to the snow-line distance of a(perpendicular to/)a(s1) similar to 15.4 corresponds to the region beyond Neptune, the outermost planet of the solar system. We discuss the importance of high-cadence surveys in expanding the range of microlensing detections of low-mass companions and future space-based microlensing surveys.</P>
