Calculation of the fission products for neutron-induced fission of 235U

        Liu Changqi,Tao Kai,Huang Liming,E Dejun,Bai Xiaohou,Ma Zhanwen 한국원자력학회 2024 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.56 No.5

The fission model, G4ParaFissionModel, was enhanced in this study, mainly focusing on refining the energy dependence of the peak-to-valley ratio in the mass distribution and the energy dependence of the average total kinetic energy (TKE). The enhanced model was employed to investigate the characteristics of fission products from 235U(n, f) reaction. The calculated results, including fission yield, TKE distribution, prompt fission neutron and gamma spectra, were compared with both evaluated and experimental data. The comparison shows that these physical observables related nuclear data, which are of importance for developments of the nuclear power and physics, can be reasonably well reproduced.

Bearing Habits of Acer truncatum and the Relationship Between Its Branch Characteristics and Fruiting Performance

        Chao Li,Xiaoling Liu,Yi Feng,Tian Bao,Changqi Ye,Dailong Li,Shuchai Su 한국원예학회 2021 원예과학기술지 Vol.39 No.2

In recent years, seeds of the Shantung maple have attracted attention for their economic and medicinal value due to the high nervonic acid content in their seed oil, which has a curative effect on some demyelinating diseases. However, few studies have investigated its fruiting habits and branch characteristics; therefore, the purpose of this research was to investigate the fruit bearing habits of A. truncatum and analyze the relationship between its branch characteristics and fruiting performance to provide a basis for management. The branch structure, flower-bearing position, and continuous fruiting ability of 200 A. truncatum individuals were recorded from 2014–2017. The results showed that parent and bearing shoots of A. truncatum were usually short (less than 10 cm) with fruit developed by terminal mixed buds of the parent shoot. A. truncatum can form a Y-shaped branch group with continuous fruiting ability for many years via a lateral shoot of the bearing shoot. The position and slenderness of the parent shoot had a significant influence on the yield of the bearing shoot and seed weight, length, and thickness. The top and basal diameters of the parent shoot had a significant influence on the yield of the bearing shoot. Group comparison results showed that the most effective and convenient method for the selection of parent shoots with high fruiting performance was based on the position and top diameter of the parent shoots, among which the parent shoots with a top diameter thicker than 3.08 mm developed by a lateral bud in a vegetative branch had greater yield, number of fruit, and seed weight.

Effects of Mixed Nut Consumption on Blood Glucose, Insulin, Satiety, and the Microbiome in a Healthy Population: A Pilot Study

        Martin Rosas Jr.,Changqi Liu,홍미영 한국식품영양과학회 2023 Journal of medicinal food Vol.26 No.5

Nuts contain many health-promoting nutrients, fiber, and phytochemicals. Nut consumption has been reported to improve several chronic disease risk factors. Most studies to date have investigated single variety nut consumption. A nut mixture may offer a more diverse array of nutrients over single variety nuts. The primary outcome of this study was to examine the effects of mixed nut consumption on postprandial glucose, insulin, and satiety in healthy young adults. Exploratory outcomes include the effects of daily nut consumption on stool microbiome and bowel movement patterns. Twenty participants were randomized to consume either 42 g of mixed nuts or 46 g of potato chips daily for 3 weeks. Mixed nut consumption did not alter postprandial blood glucose and insulin, while potato chip consumption increased glucose and insulin (P < .05). There were no significant differences in fasting blood glucose or insulin for either snack after 3 weeks of daily consumption. Both snacks increased satiety while there were no significant differences in body weight, body fat, blood pressure, waist-to-hip ratio, or anxiety. After 3 weeks of snack consumption, both groups significantly reduced straining during bowel movements while the mixed nut group slightly increased stool amount. There were no significant changes in microbiome composition for either group; however, there was a nonsignificant trend toward increased Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio in the potato chip group and an opposite trend in the mixed nut group. The results of this study suggest that mixed nuts are a healthy alternative for blood sugar control. The study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, Number: NCT03375866.

Acute Effects of Dried Apple Consumption on Metabolic and Cognitive Responses in Healthy Individuals

        Kara Sansone,Mark Kern,홍미영,Changqi Liu,Shirin Hooshmand 한국식품영양과학회 2018 Journal of medicinal food Vol.21 No.11

The objective of this study was to assess the potential of dried apple to regulate acute blood glucose, insulin, satiety, and total plasma antioxidant levels, and to explore the effect of dried apple on cognitive responses. Twenty-one healthy, normal-weight subjects completed the study which used a randomized crossover design with repeated measures. After a fast of 10 h, a standardized serving size of either dried apple or muffins was consumed. Blood glucose, insulin, and antioxidant concentrations were measured at 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min postprandial, and satiety was assessed every 15 min for 2 h. Cognitive tests were administered before and 2 h after consumption of the test food. The dried apple had significantly higher phenolic content and antioxidant activities than the muffin (P ≤ .05). Consumption of the dried apples produced significantly lower glucose concentrations at 30- (P ≤ .01; 95% CI [2.93–16.64]), 45- (P ≤ .02; 95% CI [2.41–17.88]), 60- (P ≤ .02; 95% CI [2.10–14.56]), and 120-min (P ≤ .01; 95% CI [8.16–16.80]) time points, and significantly lower (P ≤ .03; 95% CI [0.60–8.70]) insulin concentrations at a 15-min time point than the muffins but offered little consistent differences in antioxidant status, satiety, and cognitive function. These findings suggested that the intake of dried apples could reduce postprandial blood glucose and potentially increase the effectiveness of insulin responses in healthy individuals but offered little consistent differences in antioxidant status, satiety, and cognitive function.
