We report a patient with dermatitis caused by the bite of Omithonyssus bacoti (Hirst, 1913), commonIy referred to as the tropical rat mite. The bite of this mite resulted in a severely pruritic papular eruption in our patient, 32 year old Korean housewife, and her two daughters. We found the mites on the patients skin and also on dead rats captured from the patients house. Though we think that the rat mite d.ermatitis is not infrequent disease, we are going to report the case because the people are apt to overlook the disease and it can become an occupational hazard.

Under the knowledge-based economy in 21C, the convergence and complexity in science and technology are being more active. Interoperability between heterogeneous domains is a very important point considered in the field of scholarly information service as well information standardization. Thus we suggest the systematic solution method to flexibly extend classification scheme in order for content management and service organizations. Especially, This paper shows that automatic method for interoperability between heterogeneous scholarly classification code structures will be effective in enhancing the information service system. 과학기술의 융 복합현상은 21세기 지식 기반 경제하에서 더욱 활발하게 진행됨에 따라 과학기술 분야를 적절히 분류해내고, 미래의 신성장 분야까지 포용할 수 있는 체계를 만드는 것이 결코 쉽지 않다. 특히, 이기종 도메인간 상호운용성 확보는 정보표준화, 정보서비스 분야와 같이 복잡하고 다양하게 구성된 시스템과 콘텐츠를 운영하는 영역에서 매우 중요한 사항이다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 각 콘텐츠 관리 서비스 기관이 분류체계 간 상호운용성을 갖을 수 있도록 분류체계를 유연적으로 수용 확장하기 위한 시스템적 해결방안을 제시하고자 한다. 특히 두 개 이상의 상이한 학술정보 자원의 주제분류간에 자동화된 매칭기법을 적용하여 상호운용을 가능케 하는 방법을 제시하였다.

Vertical gaze palsy is usually associated with lesions of the rostral midbrain and thalamo-mesencephalic junction. The rostral interstitial nucleus of the medial longitudinal fasciculus (riMLF), the interstitial nucleus of Cajal, and the posterior commissure located in the midbrain are the critical area in supranuclear control of vertical eye movements. We describe a case of vertical one-and-a-half syn-drome accompanying contralateral abduction and incomplete depression palsy due to thalamo-mesencephalic infarction. These vertical eye movement abnormalities are presumed to be caused by damage to the ipsilateral riMLF, interstitial nucleus of Cajal, and oculomotor fascicles.
한국산 응애과(거미강 : 진드기목) 의 계통 분류학적 연구 II. 야생 식물에 기생하는 응애류

본 연구는 우리나라의 식물, 특히 야생 식물에 기생하는 응애과에 대한 분류 학적 검토를 위하여 이루어졌다. 주로 호남지방에서 1986년 5월부터 1987년 6월 사이에 다음과 같은 12종(*한국미기록종)의 응애가 채집되어 관찰과 실험에 사용되었다. 1. Panonyehus citri (McGregor) 귤응애 *2. Eotetranyehus populi Koch 버들응애 (신칭) * 3. E. Smithi Pritchard and Baker 스미드응애(신칭) *4. Schizotetranyehus bambusae Reck 대응애 (신청) *5. S. celarius (Banks) 납작대응애 (신칭) *6. S. leguminosus Ehara 싸리응애 (신청) *7. Oligonychus orthius Rimando 억새응애(신칭) 8. Tetranyehus kanzawai Kishida 차응애 *9. T. phaselus Ehara 콩응애(신청) *10. T. truneatus Ehara 뽕나무응애(신청) 11. T. vienensis Zacher 벚나무응애 12. T. urtieae Koch 점박이응애. 이와 아울러 전부절의 조간체에 대한 미세구조를 관찰, 비교하였고, 전기영 동법에 의한 효소분석을 실시하여 비교함으로써 종 및 속간의 상호유연관계를 추찰하여 보았다. The purpose of the present paper is to record taxonomic notes on several Korean spider mites. The specimens on which this study is based were collected by the authors during the period from May, 1986 to June, 1987. The following species are the spider mites concerned in this paper. 1. Panonychus citri (McGregor), 2. Eotetranychus populi Koch, 3. Eotetranychus smithi Pritchard and Baker, 4. Shizotetranychus bambusae Reck, 5. Schizotetranychus celarius (Banks), 6. Shizotetranychus leguminosus Ehara, 7. Oligonychus orthis Rimando, 8. Tetranychus ranzawai Kishida, 9. Tetranychus phaselus Ehara, 10. Tetranychus trancatus Ehara , 11. Tetranychus vienensis Zacher, 12. Tetranychus urticae Koch . Among them, eight species with asterisk are newly recorded from Korea . In addition, empodiums of pretarsus were carefully observed and enzyme patterns by electrophoresis were compared on some species in order induce their systematic inter-relationship at either species or generic level.
Combined Microchannel-Type Erythrocyte Deformability Test with Optical Tweezers: I. Basic Principles

In this article, we report a novel combined microchannel-type erythrocyte deformability test with optical tweezers which can enhance the level of sensitivity with respect to the detection of cancerous diseases. To demonstrate the feasibility of the combined method, we introduce three major parameters, the transit velocity, a modified elongation index, and the shape recovery time of a single erythrocyte in a specifically confined region under different powers of an infrared laser. These parameters are geometrically determined and experimentally evaluated for a special blood-related disease, leukemia. The results support this method has a good detection sensitivity enough to pinpoint a minor difference in the deformability between individual erythrocytes. Furthermore, such a complementary combination of optical tweezers with microfluidic structures will be helpful for comprehensively understanding what significant effect the mechanical properties of erythrocytes have on the multiple chemical reactions inside a living erythrocyte.d
