Observation of Air Shower in Uijeongbu Area using the COREA Prototype Detector System

We report the study of high energy cosmic rays in Uijeongbu area using a cosmic-ray detector array system. The array consists of three detector stations, each of which contains a set of three scintillators and PMTs, a GPS antenna along with data acquisition system. To identify air shower signals originating from a single cosmic ray, time coincidence information is used. We devised a method for estimating the energy range of air shower data detected by an array of only three detectors, using air shower simulation and citing already known energy spectrum. Also, Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) was applied to study isotropy.

The aniline degradation in aqueous solution under the ozonation alone and the combination of illuminated TiO2 photocatalysis and ozonation has been studied in laboratory scale batch reactor. Flow rate of ozone 1.0 L min-1 and ozone concentration of 200 ± 10 mg L-1 were maintained constantly, and the pH, CODMn and TOC was measured in 10 min intervals during the 60min at oxidation processes. From the experimental results obtained, the relationship between the oxidation and mineralization degree was investigated. As a result, the decomposition rate of organic compounds dissolving in the aqueous solution was higher than ozonation alone. The pseudo first-order rate constants for the elimination of CODMn and TOC were 3.58 × 10-4 sec-1, 1.80 × 10-4 sec-1, and activation energy was 1.72 kcal․mol-1 and 1.72 kcal․mol-1 at 20℃, respectively.

Effects of coiling temperature on the prior structure and subsquent martensitic transformation has been studied in an high strength Fe-l.43%Cr -0.34%C steel. Spheroidization of cementite of the hot-rolled sheet depended upon coiling temperature; a lamellar cementite in larger pearlite colony was observed by raising coiling temperature but a globular cementite was shown by lowering coiling temperature. By austenitizing and then quenching, both coarser martensite and insoluble carbides were revealed in the specimens showing lamellar cememtite but only fine martensite was observed in the specimens showing globular cementite. Comparing Vickers hardness values of the hot-rolled sheets after annealing and then quenching, Vickers hardness value of the sheet annealed at lower temperature was higher than that of the annealed at higher temperature due to prior structure i.e., spheroidization of cementite.

The effect of thermomechanical treatment conditions on the microstructure, recrystallization behavior and tensile properties in a Mg-3%Al-1%Zn alloy has been studied. Recrystallization temperature of the sheet hot-rolled is risen with increasing hot-rolling temperature due to lack of lattice defects such as deformation twins and dislocations. Comparing tensile strain of the sheets which is hot-rolled a different temperature with annealing temperature, the largest elongation is obtained in the sheet hot-rolled at 230℃ and then annealed at 200℃ and/or the sheet hot-rolled at 180℃ and then annealed at 300℃. With increasing annealing temperature of the hot-rolled sheet, the size of dimples on the fracture surface is decreased and is uniformed throughout fracture surface, but fracture mode is changed to intergranular fracture by annealing above 400℃.
