Obesity, a major public health problem around the world, is a strong risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Recent research suggests that increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) from accumulated fat in obesity leads to elevated systemic oxidative stress and contributes to the development of obesitylinked chronic disorders. The aim of the current study was to investigate changes of key enzymes associated with antioxidant response and metabolic pathways in 3T3-L1 cell, a preadipocyte cell line that undergoes differentiation into mature adipocytes. The changes in lipid accumulation, ROS production, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) during the course of differentiation were determined. The ROS production and G6PDH activity exponentially increased as differentiation progressed. However, CAT activity showed a sharp decrease until day 2, followed by a gradual increase up to day 6 and then leveled off. Given the importance of adipocyte differentiation and ROS production in oxidation-linked diseases, these data provide a biochemical rationale for further studies to identify cellular mechanisms that can counter ROS generation and modulate cellular redox environment in adipocytes.

최근, 무선랜 기술의 사용확대와 가격경쟁력을 바탕으로 이를 활용한 WMN (Wireless Mesh Network)은 새로운 백본 네트워크 기술로서 각광받고 있다. WMN은 기존 유선 백본에 비해 설치의 용이성, 비용적인 장점, 쉬운 유지보수 등의 장점을 지니고 있는 반면, broadcast 전송의 특성에 따른 단점을 지니고 있으며, 라우팅, 채널 할당 등 관련된 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 현재 WMN을 구성하기 위해 널리 사용되고 있는 Soekris사의 net4826 보드를 사용하여, WMN을 구성을 위해 필요한 다양한 성능적 특성을 실험을 통해 분석하였다. 실험에는 하드웨어적 분석을 위해 노트북과 Soekris 보드에 하나 이상의 무선랜 카드를 사용했으며, 소프트웨어적 분석을 위해 다양한 버전의 패킷 발생기, 라우팅 프로토콜 등을 사용하였다. 이를 통해, WMN을 구성하기 위해 사용되는 Soekris 보드와 사용 소프트웨어의 성능적인 한계를 밝히고, WMN 구성을 위한 지침을 제시한다.

This study was performed to provide basic physiological activities data to predict the usefulness of olive leaves as a food material. Total flavonoid and total phenol contents of 80% ethanol extract of olive leaf were 5.81% and 14.8%, respectively. Total flavonoid and total phenol contents were markedly higher in butanol and ethyl acetate fractions than in hexane, chloroform, and water fractions (p〈0.05). Oleuropein in olive leaf was the major phenolic compound. The oleuropein contents of 80% ethanol extract, butanol and ethyl acetate fractions of olive leaf were 102.11±0.02, 173.35±0.03 and 152.71±0.03㎎/100g, respectively. The 80% ethanol extract, butanol and ethyl acetate fractions of olive leaf showed a growth inhibitory effect to Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella enteritidis, whereas antimicrobial activities of hexane and chloroform fractions were not observed. The inhibitory activity to ACE was determined to be very weekly positive in 80% ethanol extract and all fractions of olive leaf. The nitrite-scavenging ability of 80% ethanol extract, butanol and ethyl acetate fractions of olive leaf were 72.8%, 76.0% and 75.4%, respectively. Significant evidence was detected that the butanol and ethyl acetate fractions showed higher activity than that of hexane, chloroform, and water fractions(p〈0.05).
소비자의 사회 경제적 위치가 쇠고기 구매 태도에 미치는 영향

This current survey was conducted to examine consumer attitudes toward factors determining beef purchasing and improving distribution systems. The frequency of beef purchasing was shown to reflect social and economic status, where inhabitants in large cities, such as Seoul, with higher salaries showed a higher frequency. In addition, consumers that were in their forties bought beef more frequently than consumers that were in their twenties. Consumers in Seoul and the megalopolis with a monthly income of higher than 200 million won preferred to purchase meat from department stores and discount markets. In contrast, people in small cities with lower incomes tended to buy meat from butcher shops and brand shops. In a question regarding unsatisfaction factors of retail beef, individuals that were in their thirties with a high income had concerns associated with packaging problems. For people under thirty with low income, the consistency of quality and price were the prime concerns. In regards to the beef grading system, consumer response varied between inhabitants, monthly income and age group, where consumers from small cities that were in their twenties and forties with a low income had a negative viewpoint. For the differential beef distribution system, housewives between the ages of 30 and 40 from a small city with an income higher than 200 million won had a positive response; however, a large number of consumers were not familiar with this system. The most demanding beef cuts were in the following order: loin, flank and rib. In addition, the most important factors determining purchasing beef were as follows: price, breed and portion.

본 연구에서는 추출용매(물, 메탄올, 석유 에테르)에 따른 정향추출물의 항균성을 비교, 검토하고자 하였다. 물 추출물의 경우 E. coli, S. aureus, S. typhimurium, P. aeruginosa에 대해서 항균효과를 나타내었으며 B. subtilis에서는 높은 농도에서는 항균력을 보이지 않았다. 메탄올 추출물의 경우 모든 균에서 항균성을 나타내었고, 특히 S. aureus에 대한 항균성이 매우 우수하였으며, 반면에 석유 에테르 추출물의 경우에서는 항균효과를 나타내지 않았다. 액체배지에서 정향의 생육저해 효과는 물 추출물의 경우 B. subtilis를 제외한 모든 균에서 항균력을 보였으며, 균종별로는 S. aureus 보다 E. coli, S. typhimurium에서 더 강한 항균력을 보였다. 메탄올 추출물의 생육저해 효과를 조사한 결과 모든 균에서 강한 항균력을 보였고, G(-)균보다 G(+)균에 대한 생육저해 효과가 크게 나타났다. 반면 석유 에테르 추출물은 모든 균에 대해서 추출물의 농도에 관계없이 생육저해 효과를 보이지 않았다. 따라서 정향 추출물의 항균력은 메탄올>물>석유에테르 추출물 순이었다. This study was investigated the antimicrobial activity of clove extracts according to extraction solvents. The extracts were tested for their antimicrobial activity against several food spoilage microorganisms including Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The methanol extract showed stronger antimicrobial activities than water extract. However, petroleum ether extract did not show antimicrobial activity. The water extract of clove showed growth inhibition effect against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium and Staphylococcus aureus, whereas no effect against Bacillus subtilis. The methanol extract of clove extracts showed more sensitive antimicrobial activity in Gram (+) bacteria than in Gram (-) bacteria. The antimicrobial activities were increased with increasing concentration of the clove extract.
