The purpose of this study is to find out the commercialization characteristics of 2nd class residential district in innercity railway station area as basic research to protect urban residential area against the pressure of commercialization. Through the research that are based on literature, field survey and urban planning map, it analysed the commercialization characteristic of selected three sites under similar urban condition; to be a nearby subway station and to be a famous commercial street in site, etc. The consequences of this study are summarized as follows; First it finds the commercialized lots in all blocks that adjoin blocks of upper class zoning. Second it is in inverse proportion between the commercialization of lots and the distance from subway station to residential block. Third, the corner lot of a block and the access road directly connected collector road are very important factors to spread commercialization to residential area. Finally, it finds the difference of the commercialization degree of 2nd class residential zone according to arrange main commercial street and the 2nd class residential block; vertical arrangement and horizontal arrangement.
도시 주거지의 부지여건별 개발방법과 주택형식 제안 - 광주광역시 사례 연구 -

The purpose of this study is to propose a new development method for urban residential area, considering the urban site and development conditions rather than just meeting the development limit and regulations. Gwangju Metropolitan city is investigated as a case city and the new method verifies a decision process of pertinent development types and housing forms in urban blocks. The consequences of this study are summarized as follows. The process of a new development method consists of four steps; First, current conditions of the residential area of Gwangju are analysed in order to find out the site characteristics and housing development situations. And the theoretical research is made to set up the development goals and objectives, regarding current trends and future paradigms of residential development. Next, the suitable development sites are selected, and their site characteristics and relevant development types for the future are compared and matched with a close analysis. Finally some pertinent housing forms for each development site are suggested, which fit well in terms of urban context and are appropriate for building up sustainable city in the future.

This research starts from the questioning of current housing development situation on hilly sites in Korea. It aims to investigate various design techniques of terraced housing as an alternative housing type on sloped sites. Several generic solutions are proposed, as for site slope and stacking method, combination of dwelling units, access pattern, and sectional variation of unit space. By the comparative analysis of design proposals with the typical two-row vertical-access type, the efficiency of the proposed techniques are verified in terms of development density, provision of community space, habitability of dwelling units.

This study is to suggest the approvement and review of Maeulmandeulgi through resident’s participation for community oriented urban renewal development. It finds problems of resident’s participation system, through the research that are based on literature, articles, expert interviews, and then it proposes the approvement upon review on problems of this system. So it finds that it is necessary to consider the length of residence in city, the sense of survival community and the difference of residential location in order to approve this system. The consequences of this study are summarized as follows ; first, it is necessary to elect a village expert as a resident leader and to establish a village design center which a village expert work in ; second, it is necessary to establish strategies that encourage resident’s participation such as it is to complete first project that resident’s major opinion is mostly reflected.

Rails are produced by several rolling processes. These processes play an important role on the performance of rails. We analysed the rolling processes by finite element code, DEFORM. The distributions of temperatures and effective strains are obtained. After the rolling processes, the rails are sent to the cooling bed. During the cooling, the rails are bended and twisted. These bending and twisting should be minimized to produce a high quality rail. The analyses of cooling processes and residual stresses produced through the rolling processes will be presented in the next paper.

A composition brake shoe composed of iron, graphite, kevlar, barium sulphate, etc. was developed for Diesel locomotives. The density distribution of the shoe depends on groove shapes of the shoe (or punch shape). In this study, we investigated the influence of the punch shape on the density distribution, stresses, etc. The inclination of the groove exerts more influence on the density distribution than the groove filet radius.

N/A Objectives: Mutations in the glucokinase (GCK) gene are considered a possible cause of maturity-onset diabetes of the young. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the contribution of this gene to the development of non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and post-renal transplantation diabetes mellitus (PTDM). Method: Identification of GCK mutation was attempted on 39 NIDDM patients, 2 GDM patients and 58 selected renal allograft recipients with PTDM and 45 normal controls. The exons in the GCK gene were examined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), followed by analysis of single-stranded DNA conformational polymorphism (SSCP). The abnormal bands were also confirmed by DNA sequencing analysis. The exons of affected family members were also investigated for mutations of the GCK gene. Results: Two of the 58 PTDM patients (3.4%) were found to have CKK mutations. One had the mutation on exon 5 and the other on intron 7. One control subject had the mutation on intmn 9. The mutation of exon 5 was identified as a substitution of CCT (proline) for CTT (leucine) at codon 164, which has not ever reported before. The family members of the PFDM patient with mutation of exon 5 were analyzed by PCR followed by SSCP, and two of them revealed the same mutation. The abnormal band on the SSCP analysis of exon 7 was identified as the insertion of base C/T at the 39th nucleotide in intron 7. Two family members of this patients also had same band on SSCP. The one mutation of 45 normal controls was CT located at the 8th nucleotide in intron 9, which was a common polymorphism. Conclusion: We found GCK mutations in subjects with PTDM and we speculate that these mutations may be one of the contributing cause of PTDM.

Clinical manifestations of hypothyroidism are very various and these degree are related to the severity and duration of the disease. Pericardial effusions, one of the manifestations of hypothy- roidism, were relatively common in the past. However, recently they may not be so frequent representative of hypothyroid subjects. The higher frequency of Hashimotos thyroiditis in Turners syndrome, especially those with an X-isochromosome, compared with the general population is well known. The pathophysiological process of autoimmunity is thought to be linked with the presence of an abnormal X-chromosome. Recently we experienced a case of X-isochromosome Turners syndrome with hypothyroidism and pericardial effusion and report it with reviews of the literatures. Primary aldosteronism, not a common cause of high blood pressure, is a syndrome which results from excessively secreted aldosterone from adrenal gland and it accounts for 0.05-2.2% of unselected hypertension. In this case the lesion was not visualized on routine abdominal computed tomographic scan due to its small size. Therefore the selective adrenal venous catherterization & venous sampling was done. As there is some difficulty of sampling from Rt. adrenal vein, the method of measuring aldosterone vs. cortisol ratio of Lt. adrenal vein and inferior vena cava was used to localize the aldosterone-producing adenoma. Clinical symptoms normalized and laboratory data returned to normal range after the surgical adrenalectomy (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 13:652-658, 1998).
