배 검은별무늬병 저항성 육종재료를 선발하고자 주요 재배종인 Pyrus pyrifolia, P. ussuriensis, P. communis, P. bretschneideri 등을 포함한 24종 171품종 및 계통을 대상으로 실내 인공접종(분생포자 농도 1x10⁵개/ml) 4주 후에 발병정도를 조사하였다. 조사품종의 검은별무늬병에 대한 병징은 4가지로 구분할 수 있어, P. aromatica, P. betulaefolia, P. calleryana, P. dimorphophylla, P. lindleyi, P. pashia, P. phaeocarpa, P. sinkiangensis, P. sohayakinensis, 그리고 ‘Mustafabey’를 제외한 P. communis의 모든 품종은 접종엽에 어떠한 증상이 나타나지 않는 강한 저항성 품종 및 종이었으며, P. ussuriensis인 ‘황실리’, ‘영목리’ 등의 재래배와 P. pyrifolia인 ‘건착’, ‘창계설리’ 등은 일부 엽에 황색괴사반 점만을 형성하는 저항성 품종이었으며, 서양배를 제외한 대부분의 주요 재배종에 속하는 품종(P. pyrifolia ‘신고’, ‘황금배’ 등, P. ussuriensis ‘봉리’ 등, P. bretschneideri ‘압리’, ‘자리’ 등)들은 일부 엽에 소량의 분생포자 또는 다량의 분생포자)가 형성되는 이병성, 강이병성이었다. To select scab resistant breeding materials, the degree of resistance of 171 cultivars including 24 species, which have collected in all temperate regions of the world, mainly Pyrus pyrifolia, P. ussuriensis, P. communis and P. bretschneideri were examined with conidial suspension (1x10⁵ conidia/ml) four weeks after artificial infection. Scab resistance could be classified into four groups. Most P. aromatica, P. betulaefolia, P. calleryana, P. dimorphophylla, P. lindleyi, P. pashia, P. phaeocarpa, P. sinkiangensis, P. sohayakinensis, and P. communis including its hybrid cultivars except ‘Mustafabey’ were evaluated highly resistant (HR) with no symptom. Local cultivars such as ‘Hwangsilri’ and ‘Yeongmokri’ included in P. ussuriensis, and ‘Kinchaku’ and ‘Chanxixueli’ belonging to P. pyrifolia showed resistant (R) with yellow or necrotic lesions on several leaves. However most cultivars of P. bretschneideri such as ‘Yali’ and ‘Cili’, P. pyrifolia such as ‘Niitaka’, ‘Whangkeumbae’, and P. ussuriensis as ‘Bongri’ were designated as being susceptible (S) having sparsely sporulating lesions on some leaves and highly susceptible (HS) with abundance of sporulating lesions on several leaves.

Breeding for pear resistance to pear psylla (Cacopsylla pyricola) is one of important objective of the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science breeding program. One hundred thirty three accessions from 15 Asian, Chinese and European pear species were investigated for their resistance against pear psylla. The pear psylla resistance was determined based on the following four characteristics: overwintering adult population, the number of eggs and nymphs, and the degree of soot. The different pear species showed varied resistance to pear psylla. Pyrus calleryana and P. betulaefolia indicated the highest antixenosis as ovipositional preference and antibiosis as nymphal feeding and were the most resistant genetic resources. Likewise the European pears (P. communis), ``Conference`` and ``Cascade``, exhibited little occurrence and damage by pear psylla. These were proved to be promising genetic materials for breeding resistant cultivars because they had good fruit quality and showed resistance to pear paylla. The observed population of overwintering adult, the number of eggs and nymphs of psylla had significant correlation each other.
