The synthesis of a,ω-bis(4-p-phenylphenoxycarbonyl)phenoxyalkanes were described. A series of main-chain thermotropic polyesters which have an alternating sequence of mesogenic units and polymethylene spacers as well as their model compounds whth mesogenic units and spacers were investigated. Their liquid crystalline behavior, especially their thermal transition properties and nature of mesophases were compared with each other. The mesomorphic properties of the compounds were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and by polarizing microscopy.

Two series of main chain liquid crystalline polymers consisting of aromatic Schiff-base mesogenic units and polymethylene spacers were synthesized and their thermal transitions and liquid crystalline properties were studied. And a series of dimesogenic compounds having two identical, terminal Schiff-base type mesogens and a central polymethylene spacer were prepared and their thermal transitions and liquid crystalline properties were compaerd with those of the corresponding monomesogenic compounds. The mesomorphic properties of the polymers and the compounds were studied by differential scanning calorimetry and on a hot-stage of a polarizing microscope.
광산란 방법에 의한 Sodium Dodecly Sulfate 미셀의 크기에 대한 연구

The mean gyration radii, Ṛg of elongated micelles of sodium dodecyl surfate(SDS) were measured using angular dissymmetry of the dynamically scattered light. The measurements were performed at low NaCl concentration(0.05M)and high NaCl concentration(0.30M) at temperatures, 25°C, 30°C and 40°C. The measured Ṛg values dissymmetry, (d(θ)) versus the cosθ of the pure SDS micelle was spherical with the effective radius of 37.5A at 40°C. the SDS micelles in electrolyte solution were found to be thin rod-like between 130A and 390A in length, and flexible bended rod-like between 600A and 680A in length, as the temperature is liwered from 40°C to 25°C. As a result, the non-rigid SDS micelles transform gradually from sphere via prolate ellipsoid to thin rod-like and flexible bended rod-like micelles as the electrolyte are added and the temperature is lowered.
Bis (p-Substitutedphenyl) terephthalates의 Nematic Group Efficiency Order에 대한 연구

New compounds were synthesized and their thermal and liquid crystal properties were studied by the differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and on a hot-stage of a polarizing microscope. The terminal substituent groups of the compound were varied : X = -H, -F, -Cl, -Br, -I, -NO2 , -CF3, -OC2H5 , -OC4H9 , -CN and –C6H5. The compounds of X = -C1,-OC2H5 , -OC4H9 . -CN, and -C6H5 were enantiotropically nematic. The compound of X = -Br and –NO2 were monotropically nematic. In contrast, the com pounds of X = -H, ~F, -I and -CF3 were not liquid crystals. The nematic group efficiency order of these compounds was in the order of -C6H5 〉 ~CN > -OC2H5 〉 -Br > -OC4H9 > -NO2 > -Cl.
새로운 H-자형 이메소겐 화합물의 액정특성에 치환기가 미치는 효과

새로운 에메소겐 액정화합물들을 합성하였고, 이들의 열적 및 액정 성질을 DSC와 가열판이 부착된 편광현미경을 사용하여 조사하였다. 이 화합물들 즉, 1,10-bis[2,5-bis(4-substitutedphenoxycarbonyl)phenoxy]decane은 "H-자형" 이합체 대칭화합물의 구조로 중앙의 테페프탈로일 단위에 oxydecamethyleneoxy 격자를 통하여 상호 연결된 두 개의 bis(p-substitutedphenoxy)terephthalate 단위로 이루어졌다. 메소겐의 치환기는 X=-F, -H, -I, -Cl, -Br, $-NO_2,\;-CF_3,\;-OC_4H_9-CN$ 및 $-C_6H_5$를 바꾸어 보았다. $X=-OC_4H_9-CN$과 $C_6H_5$ 화합물은 단방성 네마틱액정이었으며 이에 비하여 X=-F, -H, -I, -Cl, -Br, $-NO_2$와 $-CH_3$는 액정이 아니었다. 이 화합물들의 네마틱 그룹 효율은 $-C_6H_5>-CN>-OC_4H_9$ 순이었다. These compounds, 1,10-bis[2,5-bis(4-substitutedphenoxycarbonyl)phenoxy]decanes, consist of two bis(ρ-substitutedphenoxy)terephthalate units interconnected through a oxydecamethyleneoxy spacer on the central terephthaloyl units resulting in the structure of "H-shaped" dimeric twin compounds. The terminal substitutent groups were changed; X=-F, -H, -I, -Cl, -Br, $-NO_2,\;-CF_3,\;-OC_4H_9,\;-CN\;and\;-C_6H_5.$ The compounds with X=$-OC_4H_9,\;-CN\;and\;-C_6H_5$ were monotropically nematic. In contrast, the compounds with $X=-F, -H, -I, -Cl, -Br, $-NO_2\;and\;-CF_3$ were non-liquid crystals. The nematic group efficiency of these compounds was in the order of -C_6H_5>-CN>-OC_4H_9.$

물질의 제 4 상태로 알려진 액정화합물에 대한 연구는 1970 년대부터 2010 년에 이르러 폭발적으로 진행되고 있다. 과학적으로, 액정화합물은 화합물 합성의 한 장으로 자리매김을 하고 있고,특히 구조와 액정성 간의 상관관계를 규명하는데 일익을 담당하고 있다. 기술적으로 , 액정은 우리 생활의 중요한 일부분을 차지하고 있다 . 예를 들면,손목시계,계산기,컴퓨터를 포함한 모든 기기의 표시장치, 텔레비전,전자신문 및 정밀 프로젝션 기구에 사용되고 있다 . 따라서 본 연구에서는 다이에틸렌글리콜을 중간 유연격자로 사용하고 말단 알콕시 사슬길이를 헵틸기로 갖으며 , 메소젠기로 쉬 프베이스와 에스터기를 갖는 새로운 액정화합물인 l,2-bis(2-(4-(4_(4-heptyl oxybenzoyloxy)benzylideneamino)phenoxy)ethoxy)ethane을 합성하였고, 이들의 분자 구조와 액정성 간의 상관관계를 살펴보았다 .
