Vol.35 No.3
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to describe andropause-related difficulties experienced by men. Methods: Two focus group interviews were conducted to collect the data from 10 Participants with andropause-related difficulties experienced. All interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. The data were analyzed using content analysis. Results: We organized the responses concerning andropause symptoms into five essential categories: 1) uncontrollable physical changes, 2) intellectual decline, 3) changes in sexual function, 4) difficulties in controlling emotions, and 5) separation from society. The attempts to alleviate andropause were classified into seven distinct categories: 1) dietary modifications, 2) engaging in physical activities, 3) pursuing leisure and hobbies, 4) enhancing self-esteem and self-perception, 5) seeking support and comprehension from one's social circle, 6) utilizing informational resources concerning andropause, and 7) embracing and accepting andropause reality. Conclusion: We analyzed the issues arising from andropause and the corresponding efforts to address them. A comprehensive understanding of andropause's causes, mechanisms, effective nursing interventions, and essential development of management programs, including education, is imperative.
Vol.51 No.1
This study has its own meaning to examine how the itinerant special education teachers who belong to the Teacher Learning Community make their classes with a severe and multiple disability and how much the teacher mature as a teacher the though the classes. This study is based on the cases which are conducted in the teacher learning community consisted of 8 teachers specialized in education for disabled students at School A and it applies the qualitative case study method. The first issue of this study was ‘students closed to death’. This issue implies that the students with severe and multiple disability have serious health problems. Thus, teachers faced with the death of their students thought that the time they spent with their students was very valuable. The second issue was ‘teachers losing their class’. This issue implies that the teachers feel hesitancy and fear of their classes because of the lack of curriculum and teaching model which will apply to students with severe and multiple disability. The last issue was ‘the maturity as a teacher through the introspection and cooperation’. This issue implies that the teachers introspect their classes and cooperate with co-workers in order to search desirable direction of classes. This study has its own meaning to examine how the itinerant special education teachers who belong to the Teacher Learning Community recognize their classes and to suggest desirable direction of class for students with a severe and multiple disability.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the parenting of mothers with infants and preschoolers in an effort to determine types ofparenting. Methods: The 32 participating mothers were interviewed and from the content of the interviews, their parenting was analyzed. Statementswere categorized and analyzed according to the selected procedure. Results: The parenting of mothers was classified into positive reinforcementand negative reinforcement, including 55 significant statements and 14 categories. Positive reinforcement was categorized as frequentskin contact, giving pleasure, spending a lot of time with children, improving children’s self-esteem, being sensitive to children’s needs, realisticdiscipline, developing independence, listening to children, and understanding and respecting children’s feelings. Negative reinforcement wascategorized as overprotection, inconsistent attitude, negligence, negative educational behavior, and emphasis on obedience. Conclusion: Theseresults suggest that systematic education should be provided for mothers to increase their ability to provide good parenting. It is expected thatthe findings of this study would be useful in the development of efficient educational programs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the components and content of nursing intervention studies on mother-infant interactionsand to present strategies for future studies. Methods: Four electronic databases in the Korean language were searched to identify studies donebetween January 1998 and December 2011. The search yielded 145 articles. From these articles, 19 studies met the inclusion criteria. Results:Mother-infant interactions in these studies were found to include verbal and non-verbal communication basic for optimal growth and developmentof the child. Six kinds of interventions for mother-infant interactions were identified as follows: sensory stimulation, education program, whole body massage, kangaroo care, visiting support, and music therapy. Conclusion: Further studies with well designed clinical trials need to bedone in the area of child nursing to provide evidence based data for the development of strategies to promote positive mother-infant interactions.
In Vivo Expression of the PTB-deleted Odin Mutant Results in Hydrocephalus
2015 Molecules and cells Vol.38 No.5
Odin has been implicated in the downstream signaling pathway of receptor tyrosine kinases, such as the epidermal growth factor and Eph receptors. However, the physiologically relevant function of Odin needs to be further determined. In this study, we used Odin heterozygous mice to analyze the Odin expression pattern; the targeted allele contained a -geo gene trap vector inserted into the 14th intron of the Odin gene. Interestingly, we found that Odin was exclusively expressed in ependymal cells along the brain ventricles. In particular, Odin was highly expressed in the subcommissural organ, a small ependymal glandular tissue. However, we did not observe any morphological abnormalities in the brain ventricles or ependymal cells of Odin null-mutant mice. We also generated BAC transgenic mice that expressed the PTB-deleted Odin (dPTB) after a floxed GFP-STOP cassette was excised by tissue-specific Cre expression. Strikingly, Odin-dPTB expression played a causative role in the development of the hydrocephalic phenotype, primarily in the midbrain. In addition, OdindPTB expression disrupted proper development of the subcommissural organ and interfered with ependymal cell maturation in the cerebral aqueduct. Taken together, our findings strongly suggest that Odin plays a role in the differentiation of ependymal cells during early postnatal brain development.
Ependymal Cells Require Anks1a for Their Proper Development
2019 Molecules and cells Vol.42 No.3
Ependymal cells constitute the multi-ciliated epithelium, which lines the brain ventricular lumen. Although ependymal cells originate from radial glial cells in the perinatal rodent brain, the exact mechanisms underlying the full differentiation of ependymal cells are poorly understood. In this report, we present evidence that the Anks1a phosphotyrosine binding domain (PTB) adaptor is required for the proper development of ependymal cells in the rodent postnatal brain. Anks1a gene trap targeted LacZ reporter analysis revealed that Anks1a is expressed prominently in the ventricular region of the early postnatal brain and that its expression is restricted to mature ependymal cells during postnatal brain development. In addition, Anks1a-deficient ependymal cells were shown to possess type B cell characteristics, suggesting that ependymal cells require Anks1a in order to be fully differentiated. Finally, Anks1a overexpression in the lateral wall of the neonatal brain resulted in an increase in the number of ependymal cells during postnatal brain development. Altogether, our results suggest that ependymal cells require Anks1a PTB adaptor for their proper development.
