「Stars shining evey window」 is a novel written by Lee Tae Joon. He has enjoyed a great reputation as a novelist as well as a short st ry writer. Such a short stories as 「Omongnyo??」, 「The Realtor」, 「The Crow」, and 「The Moonlight Night」 etc. are representatives of Korean short stories. His novels have attracted little attention owing to the lowbrow novels published in daily instalments. But they ought to be paid more attention and be investigated closely, for he took much interest in those novels and more enjoyed writing novels than short stories. In this respect, we cannot, exclude his novels in studying on his literature world Mr. Lee began to write his novels in 1933, and had produced all 12 novels till the end of the colonial period. Dividing is novels written f on 1930s to 1940s into two parts according to their writing periods, I have studied them one by one. Now I make a study of his last work in 1940s, 『Stars Shining Every Window』. 「Stars Shining Every Window」 could not be irrelevant to Japanese colonial governing, since it was written and censored under the control of Japan. In this novel, he showed his cultural consciousness accommodated himself to the times forcing colonial people to 'The New Order'. It is the reflection of his reality cognition in a word. He thought of his times as the object to follow instead of the object to overcome. As a result, he had no choice but to follow The New Order. In the course of this, he coped with the situation in the cultural aspects and it helped him reach the exit to avoid the submission to the new political and economical order. His cultural consciousness like this led him to pour his interest to the achetecture culture, which reflected the colonial government's policy stressing the productivity. All the characters of this work are the types of man follwing the New Order. Including the main characters named as o?? ha yo??ng and Han Jo??ng un, secular character Ju Ik ho??ng and his marginal character Yun Jo??ng bong etc. are all the types of men who are obedient to 'the New Order'. This is the result of his idealism. His cultural conciousness about achitecture is the reflection of the control of 'The New Order'. 「Stars Shining Every Window」 is the enlightment novel devided into two parts, the passage ritural ceremony of love and of society. However, this enlightment searched for by his characters during the passage ritural ceremony of love gives rise to another problems because of secularism, not creativity. And it resulted in the dishamony of the theme and the structure. In coclusion we can call this work one of the enlightment novel.
