Streptomyces actuosus DMCJ-49 and Streptomyces minoensis DMCJ-144 produce the alpha-amylase inhibitor. Inerspecific protoplast fusion technique was used to increase the productivity of alpha-amylase inhibitor. Four auxotrophic mutants were obtained respectively from two strains by N-methyl-N''-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine(3 mg/ml) treatment. The optimum conditions for the protoplast formation of Streptomyces actuosus DMCJ-49 ade- was as follows ; 1.2%w/v of glycine, 3mg/ml of lysozyme, and 30 min of lysozyme treatment followed by 36 hr. incubation in the protoplast formation medium. In case of DMCJ-144-his- those were 1.2%w/v, 3mg/ml, 30 minutes and 60 hours, respectively. Regeneration was accomplished with hypertonic soft agar medium that contained 0.4 M sucrose, 20 mM CaCl2, 50 mM MgCl2, and low levels of phosphate. Fusion of protoplasts carrying different auxotrophic markers was achieved by treatment with polyethylene glycol. The optimum concentration of polyethylene glycol 1450 for the production of recombinants was 40%w/v. When the protoplasts was treated with 40% polyethylene glycol for 30 minutes, the frequency of recombinants was 6.5X10-3 and the alpha-amylase inhibition activity of ade-Xhis- No. 4, which is the fusant with the most improved activity increased from 33 to 125 I.U./ml.

To find antitumor components in the shake-cultured mycelia of Volvariella bombycina, the mycelia were extracted with hot water after the extract was dialyzed and freeze-dried, a protein polysaccharide fraction was obtained and examined for antitumor activity against the solid form of sarcoma 180 in ICR mice. It was showed 60.3% inhibition ratio at a dose of 20㎎/㎏/day for 10days. When the antitumor component was examned for immunopotentiating activity, it was fo und to increase macrophage accumulation in the peritoneal cavity and antibody production.

Several higher fungi were collected at Andong during the. summer and fall of 1976. About 100 higher fungi were collected at Mt. Sobaek and Youngju during the same period in 1978. These higher fungi were identified. As the results, Macracystidia proved to be new genus in Korea. And the following are also newly-found species. in Korea. Hygrocybe turunda (Fr.) Karst., Hygrophorus lucorum Kalchbr.. Macrocystidia cucumis (Fr.) Heim var. latifolia (Lange) Imzzeki et Hongo, Agaricus subrufescens Peck, Psathyrella hydrophila (Bull. ex Fr.) A.H. Smith, Stropharia rugosannulata. Farlow f. lutea Hongo, Inocybe bresadolae Mass., Inocybe. multicoranata A.H. Smith, Russula farinihes Romell and Lactarius sakamotoi Imai.

Some 50 fungi were collected and identified at Youngu and Mt. Sobaek from April to October in 1977. The results have shown that, following ten species are new to Korean list. Collybia dryophila (BULL. ex FR.), QUEL., Mycena polygramma (BULL. ex FR.) S.F. GRAY., M. pura (PERS. ex FR.) QUEL., Crepidotus nephrodes (BERK. et CURT.) SACC., Inocybe montana KOBAY., I. squamulosa KOBAY., Rhodophllus ater HONGO, R. violaceus (MURR.) SING., Leccinum aurantiacum (BULL.) S.F. GRAY., and Suillus aeruginascens (SECR.) SNELL.
