In Situ Heat Treatment of ZnO:Al Thin Films Fabricated by RF Magnetron Sputtering

ZnO:Al thin films were deposited on glass substrate by RF magnetron sputtering followed by in situ heattreatment in the same chamber. Effects of in situ heat treatment on properties of ZnO:Al thin films wereinvestigated in this study. As heat treatment temperature was increased, crystal quality was improved first and thenit was deteriorated, surface roughness was decreased, and sheet resistance was also decreased. The decrease in sheetresistance was caused by increasing carrier concentration due to decreased surface roughness. The decrease in surfaceroughness resulted in increase of transmittance. Therefore, in situ heat treatment is an effective method for obtainingfilms with better electrical characteristics.

We have grown GaN layers with in-situ SiN mask by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) and study the physical properties of the GaN layer. We have also fabricate PN junction light emitting diode (LED) to investigate the effect of the SiN mask on its optical property By inserting a SiN mask, (102) the full width at half maximum (FWHM) decreased from 480 arcsec to 409 arcsec and threading dislocation (TD) density decreased from $3.21{\times}10^9\;cm^{-2}$ to $9.7{\times}10^8\;cm^{-2}$. The output power of the LED with a SiN mask increased from 198 mcd to 392 mcd at 20 mA. We have thus shown that the SiN mask improved significantly the physical and optical properties of the GaN layer.

Microprocessor controlled digital speed control system of chopper-fed dc motor has been designed. By keeping speed constant, the actual speed is optically measured and digitally compared in the microprocessor with the desired speed setting which was given from external keyboard. Then produced error is used to adjust the 'on-time' of SCR chopper such that the motor speed is maintained at its desired value. The prototype's steady-state error is less than 0.1%.

빠른 교반 조건에서 구조주형화합물인 TEAOH(Tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide)를 이용하여 제올라이트 SUZ-4를 성공적으로 합성하였다. 교반속도 250 rpm 이상에서 결정성의 제올라이트 SUZ-4를 얻을 수 있었다. 이것은 교반이 재현성있는 합성에 결정적인 역할을 한다는 것을 의미한다. 사용한 물의 양$(H_2O/Al_2O_3)$의 차이에 의하여 SUZ-4 결정형태 조절이 가능하였다. XRD, BET 및 암모니아 TPD에 의해 SUZ-4의 물리화학적 성질 및 증기처리에 의한 열적 안정성이 조사되었다. Zeolite SUZ-4 was successfully synthesized with TEAOH (Tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide) as structure directing agent under a vigorous stirring condition. Well-defined zeolite SUZ-4 structure was only obtained under stirring of 250 rpm or more. The results imply that stirring plays a pivotal role for reproducible synthesis. Morphology of SUZ-4 crystal was controlled by adjustment of water concentrations. The physicochemical characterization of SUZ-4 and its hydrothermal stability using a steam treatment were investigated by using XRD, BET, and $NH_3-TPD$.

The ultimate goal of periodontal treatment is the regeneration of periodontal tissues which have been lost due to periodontal disease. Recently, many natural medicines have been studied for their potential of anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects in periodontal tissues. Safflower seeds have been traditionally used as a drug for treatment of fracture and blood stasis in oriental medicine. The objective of the present study is to examine the biologic effects of safflower seeds extract on bone formation and regeneration of rat calvarial defects. The calvarial defects were made with 8mm trephine bur and extract of safflower seeds were placed directly at these defects. 24 rats were divided into control and experimental groups, and each group was sacrificed at 1 week, 4 weeks and 8 weeks. To study a histopathology related to bone regeneration, Goldner's Masson Trichrome stain and histomorphologic measuring was done at each weeks. In the early phase of bone healing, less inflammatory infiltration and capillary proliferation was found in experimental group compared to control. Dense bony tissues and matured bone structures in defect areas were found in experimental groups. And area of new bone formation was significantly increased at 8 weeks in experimental group. These results indicate that direct local application of safflower seeds extract reduces the early inflammatory response and promotes the regeneration of new bone in calvarial defects of rats.

Background: The proper cuff pressure is important to prevent complications related to the endotracheal tube (ETT). Weevaluated the change in ETT cuff pressure by changing the position from supine to prone without head movement. Methods: Fifty-five patients were enrolled and scheduled for lumbar spine surgery. Neutral angle, which was the angle onthe mandibular angle between the neck midline and mandibular inferior border, was measured. The initial neutral pressureof the ETT cuff was measured, and the cuff pressure was subsequently adjusted to 26 cmH2O. Flexed or extendedangles and cuff pressure were measured in both supine and prone positions, when the patient’s head was flexed or extended. Initial neutral pressure in prone was compared with adjusted neutral pressure (26 cmH2O) in supine. Flexed andextended pressure were compared with adjusted neutral pressure in supine or prone, respectively. Results: There were no differences between supine and prone position for neutral, flexed, and extended angles. The initialneutral pressure increased after changing position from supine to prone (26.0 vs. 31.5 ± 5.9 cmH2O, P < 0.001). Flexed andextended pressure in supine were increased to 38.7 ± 6.7 (P < 0.001) and 26.7 ± 4.7 cmH2O (not statistically significant)than the adjusted neutral pressure. Flexed and extended pressure in prone were increased to 40.5 ± 8.8 (P < 0.001) and 29.9± 8.7 cmH2O (P = 0.002) than the adjusted neutral pressure. Conclusions: The position change from supine to prone without head movement can cause a change in ETT cuff pressure.
Humic substances degradation by a microbial consortium enriched from subarctic tundra soil

The largest constituent of soil organic matter in polar cold regions, humic substances (HS), are natural aromatic heteropolymers, with a composition similar to lignin. The microbes in subarctic tundra soil from Alaska, USA, were able to degrade humic acids (HA, a major component of HS) during microcosm experiments at a low temperature of 5°C, which is similar to natural soil temperature during the thawing period (an average temperature of 5.6°C in 2011~2012). The relative abundance of HA decreased to approximately 71% compared with the non-incubated soil control (100%). The microbes, however, were unable to degrade HA at 25°C, which is in the ideal soil temperature range for planting most plants. When enriched at 15°C in liquid mineral medium provided with HA as a sole carbon source, the HA-enriched microbial consortium was metabolically activated to degrade abundant soil carbons (e.g., 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and D-cellobiose) and completely degraded 2-methoxy phenols (ferulic and vanillic acids), which are lignin-derived mono-aromatics. Our data indicate that the microbial community of Alaska tundra soil is cold-adapted and symbiotically degrades HS, possibly via a bacterial lignincatabolic pathway in which vanillic acid is a primary metabolite. To our knowledge, this is the first report describing a HSdegradative pathway at the microbial consortium level.
