In this study, the equations of motion of a rigid rotor supported by magnetic bearings are derived via Hamilton's principle, and transformed to a state-space form for control purpose. The optimal motion control of rotor magnetic bearing system based on the LQR(linear quadratic regulator) theory is addressed. New schemes related to the selection of the state weighting matrix Q and the control weighting matrix R involved in the quadratic functional to be minimized are proposed. And the robust control of the system with an LMI(linear matrix inequality) based H$_{\infty}$ theory is dealt with in this paper. Loop shapings of TFM (transfer function matrix) are used to increase the performance of control capability of the system. The control abilities of LQR and H$_{\infty}$ controller are compared by simulation and experimental tests and show that the capability of H$_{\infty}$ controller is superior to that of LQR.

Sinus lifting was introduced for prosthetic reconstruction in 1960 decades by Boyne and is specifically used for implant surgery in maxillary posterior region with insufficient bony height and has been indicated for reconstruction of oro- antral and palato-alveolar cleft. We report that subtotal maxillectomy using sinus lifting and skin graft in mild maxillary cancer cases results in good prevention of oro-antral and oro-nasal fistula by preserving intact maxillary sinus mucosa and improves better functional outcome after maxillectomy.

Normally, environmental toxicants are classified as endocrine disruptors if they interfere with regulation of cellular function by endogeneous steroids through inhibition of receptor binding and/or transcriptional activation. So, many studies have been performed about agonist/antagonist of hormone receptor to study mechanisms of endocrine disruptors. If toxicants affect steroid biosynthesis and/or degradation and alter hormone homeostasis, these also are classified as endocrine disruptors. But there are not many studies of the mechanisms of endocrine disruptors on the basis of alteration of steroid biosynthesis and/or degradation. Isolation and culture of Leydig cells from testis is one of methods for the steroidogenesis screening assays to evaluate a substance for altering steroidogenesis. Leydig cells were harvested using the method described by Klinefelter with modifications. Leydig cells were purified by perfusion of testis and incubation (34℃, 80cycles/minute, 20 minutes) with collagenase (0.25 ㎎/㎏), centrifugal elutriation, percoll gradient centrifugation and BSA multidensity gradient centrifugation. To confirm if this method is one of appropriate tools to evaluate a substance for altering steroidogenesis, ketoconazole, positive control was administered to purified Leydig cells. Ketoconazole (10??M and above) significantly reduced testosterone production in purified Leydig cells. From above results, we suggest that this method for steroidogenesis screening assay appears to be a appropriate tool to detect suspected compounds for altering steroidogenesis.

A study on the control of free vibration and stability characteristics of rotating hollow circular shafts subjected to compressive axial forces is presented in this paper. Both passive structural tailoring technique and active control scheme via collocated piezoelectric sensing and actuation are used in the study Gyroscopic and centrifugal forces combined with the compressive axial force contribute to the occurrence of divergence and flutter instabilities of the rotating shaft. The dual methodology based on the passive and active control schemes shows a high degree of efficiency toward postponement of these instabilities and expansion of the domain of stability of the system. The structural model of the shaft is based on an advanced thin-walled beam structure that includes the non-classical effects of transverse shear, anisotropy of constituent materials and rotatory inertia.
