Thermodynamic method of pump performance measurement calculates pump efficiency and flowrate by measuring fluid temperature increase and pressure rise through the pump. The theory of this method is investigated and precise comparison experiment with classical hydraulic method was conducted to verify the accuracy. Classical hydraulic pump performance measurement results and Yatesmeter results based on the thermodynamic method showed good agreement in measured performance.
풍동시험에 의한 콘테이너 크레인의 풍하중 예측 및 개량에 관한 연구

본 연구에서는 특정한 콘테이너 크레인을 설계도면에 따라 100:1 축척의 모형 을 제작하고 Reynolds 수에 의한 축척영향, 모형취부 및 계측 시스템의 반복성 영향, 풍향에 따른 특성, boom의 위치에 따른 특성, 풍고도에 따른 특성, blockage 영향, 설 계변경에 따른 효과에 주 관심을 두고 연구하였다. 특히 설계단계에서 관련 규격에 따라 예측된 풍하중이 실제와 어느 정도로 일치하는지에 관심을 두고 풍동시험 결과와 비교했다. A container crane model was tested to investigate wind-load characteristics in uniform flows and ground boundary layers. Drag coefficients and moment coefficients show their minimum values at 0, 90, 180 degrees wind directions and maximum values at 60 and 120 degrees. Strong interactions among structure elements produce such variations of the wind-load with wind directions. The BS-2573 code is shown to over-estimation can be reflected in the design stage of cranes by refining the rule of the designer. Some roundings of coners of the engine room and the machinery room reduce the wind-load by 10 percents. Considerable reductions of the wind-load would be expected if further integrated development of the crane structure are executed.

Aerodynamic performance tests and flow measurement were carried out for several radial impellers of NACA 65-810 airfoil. The data base obtained are to be used for verifying the methods of flow analysis and CFD codes. The effects of numbers and span of blades on the performances, efficiency and impeller exit flow are investigated in the present study. The flow rate on the performance curve is proportional to the span of the blade for the same value of fan pressure rise. The magnitude of radial velocity component at the impeller exit gradually decreases from the hub to shroud side. The magnitude of tangential velocity component gradually increases from the hub to shroud side. The way of variations of velocity is the same at the diffuser exit, however, becomes more uniform. The pressure rise performance increases with blade number at the small flow coefficients, however, decreases with the number of blade at the large flow coefficients. This shows that flow guidance in important at the low flow rate and the friction becomes significant at the high flow rate.

Aerodynamic performance of a cooling fan of driving motor was enhanced modifying the vane-shroud configuration. Performance of a target model was evaluated to obtain baseline data. The aerodynamic performance and sound pressure level were tested and measured with different numbers of vane of increased length. The tested models show high and stable performance and low values of specific noise level. The long vane-shroud structure induces more stable through flow and decreases the tip leakage flow, which contributes to the increases of performance and efficiency. The sound pressure level increases for the modified model, however, specific noise level decreases.

Transient flow in a cold-water supply system for cooling the inside of a coal mining pit was numerically simulated. Properly designed and presetted pressure reducing valves control the level of pressures of the piping system at normal or emergent conditions Quasi-steady relations to simulate the valve motion are obtained and the transient performance of the valve is investigated in the present paper. The present method reasonably simulate transient phenomena in the system including the pressure reducing valve. Excessive valve motion and column separation are simulated when the flow is abruptly reduced. A calculated example of the real system is also presented. The simulation can be used for the safety-check and the guidance for design and operation in emergent cases of the system.

Some sized centrifugal compressors were designed and their performance measured to investigate the effects of exit blade thickness, width and back swept angle. The impeller of larger blade thickness shows low pressure ratio compared with that of smaller ones. Backswept angle also have a large effect on the efficiency. Measured values of slip factor are quite different from the estimated values of the Wiesner-Busemann model and an increase in the flow late.

A computer program was developed for the prediction of transient flow in a water supply system. where an air chamber is installed to reduce the water hammering. The governing equations based on a characteristic method are solved using a finite difference method. A design process of an air chamber is shown in the present paper considering the effects of the initial air volume and the discharge coefficients of the orifice on the total volume and over-all performance of the chamber.

Inviscid flows in a radial turbomachine and its performance are predicted by using a pannel method. Possibility of the method to be used for design purpose is investigated. The flows in a radial turbomachine are reasonably simulated with several off-design flow rates. The diameter ratio of the rotor and inlet and outlet vane angles are systematically changed so that performance of the machine in various designs are predicted. All the predictions are shown to be in the range of Cordier curve. On the other hand, calculated slip factors are also in good agreement with values given by an empirical formula.

The constriction thermal resistance due to the floor supports in the Ondol floor heating system was investigated. The resistance has significant influence on the uniformity of floor surface temperature and heat flux through the floor. The heat flux decreased as much as $30\%$ for the geometry of the same channel and support areas.
유선곡률법에 의한 원심압축기 회전차 내부유동의 수치해석

Flows through impellers of centrifugal compressors are calculated by a streamline curvature method. A method for the exit boundary condition is suggested in the present paper. Flow angles are assumed to be deviated from the blade angle parabolically. The maximum deviation is adjusted for the whole angular momentum to balance with the empirically estimated value by using Stanitz' slip-factor. The present method is verified to reasonably simulate flows through the impeller, when the 3-dimensionality of the flow is not strong. It is also shown that the method can be applied for the design of the splitter in the impeller.
