        The safety and serviceability are two major requirements that all structures must satisfy. This safety of structures must be determined to adequately resist the applied loads. The conventional design method is based on the deterministic approach in which the loads and resistances are evaluated deterministically. This study is the proper probability based design criteria(Optimum load and resistence factor design formats)has been developed based on the safety levels observed from calibration with existing standards, which applies to the ultimate limit ststes of steel compression member.

        A nonlinear programming model is developed for the optimal design of a two-span continuous steel beam, having cover plates at the interior support. All dimensions of the web and flange of the beam, as well as those of the cover plates, are automatically selected by the program to produce the minimum weight structure. The nonlinear expressions involved are linearized by a substitution of the linear terms of the Taylor series expansion representing the nonlinear expression an iterative process is constructed, and the solution to one design cycle is used as the expansion point for the Yaylor series used to generate the necessary matrices for the linear programming problem on the successive cycle. In this version of the technique, the analysis portion of the problem is not involved in the set of constraints. Convergence does not appear to be sensitive to the initial design used for the cycle of the iteration, and an acceptable solution is usually obtained in fewer than ten cycles.

        Lipid-Emulsion Propofol Less Attenuates the Regulation of Body Temperature than Micro-Emulsion Propofol or Sevoflurane in the Elderly

        Purpose: Anesthesia and surgery commonly cause hypothermia, and this caused by a combination of anesthetic-induced impairment of thermoregulatory control, a cold operation room environment and other factors that promote heat loss. All the general anesthetics markedly impair normal autonomic thermoregulatory control. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of two different types of propofol versus inhalation anesthetic on the body temperature. Materials and Methods: In this randomized controlled study, 36 patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic gastrectomy were allocated into three groups; group S (sevoflurane, n=12), group L (lipid-emulsion propofol, n=12) and group M (micro-emulsion propofol, n=12). Anesthesia was maintained with typical doses of the study drugs and all the groups received continuous remifentanil infusion. The body temperature was continuously monitored after the induction of general anesthesia until the end of surgery. Results:The body temperature was decreased in all the groups. The temperature gradient of each group (group S, group L and group M) at 180 minutes from induction of anesthesia was 2.5±0.6°C, 1.6±0.5°C and 2.3±0.6°C, respectively. The body temperature of group L was significantly higher than that of group S and group M at 30 minutes and 75 minute after induction of anesthesia, respectively. There were no temperature differences between group S and group M. Conclusion: The body temperature is maintained at a higher level in elderly patients anesthetized with lipid-emulsion propofol.

        A linear programming model for the optimal design of reinforced concrete frames is presented. This formulation has constraints associated with compatibility, limited ductility, equilibrium and serviceability criteria as the governing constraints, and may or may not place restrictions on the location of plastic hinges. A computer programme that formulates and solves the optimal design problem is described. Practical design examples of six multi-storey reinforced concrete frames have been worked out. The economic merits of these examples are discussed for different cases of hinge patterns. It is concluded that the proposed linear programming formulation presents an unified approach to the limit design of reinforced concrete frames and the method offers savings in the requirement of steel reinforcement.

        In designing the box culvert which is being used recently, in most of general road works, or expressway works, including grade separation road , the auther auher tried to find out the efficient calculation method by using the way of traditional calculation method compared with way of nomogram, the latter, of course proved to be economical in time. At the same time, it was proved to be more accurate to use the way of nomogram, than by traditional way.

        기능성 미분말의 제조공정에 관한 연구 : I. 분무건조법에 의한 microcapsule 제조

        분무건조법을 이용하여 무기질막 microcapsule과 무기질/유기질막 microcapsule을 제조하였다. 무기질막 microcapsule은 core 물질로 $K_{4}SO$와 clay shell 물질로 colloidal silica를 사용하였고, 무기질/유기질막 microcapsule은 core 물질로 상기 제조된 무기질막 microcapsule을 shell 물질로는 ethyl cellulose를 사용하여 각각의 microcapsule를 제조하였다. 제조된 microcapsule이 기능성을 갖기 위하여는 구형의 균일한 표면과 세공용적이 매우 중요하다. 무기질막 microcapsule인 경우 core/shell의 체적비가 0.3/0.7인 경우 구형의 균일한 표면의 microcapsule이 제조되었으며, 무기질/유기질막 microcapsule인 경우, 무게비가 0.76/0.24일 때 균일한 표면을 갖는 microcapsule이 제조되었다. 무기질/유기질막 microcapsule인 경우, 무기질막 microcapsule보다 세공용적이 감소하였고, shell물질(ethyl cellulose)의 양이 증가할수록 피복이 균일하게 되며, 세공용적도 감소하였다. Inorganic and inorganic/organic microcapsules were prepared by spray drying. $K_{4}SO$ and clay were used as the core and colloidal silica as the shell for the inoroganic microcapsules. Forthe inorganic/organic microcapsules were used the inorganic microcapsule which were mentioned above (core) and ethyl cellulose (shell). To characterize the prepared microcapsule for the practical use, the homogenity of surface and pore volume are the dominent factors. At the volume ratio of 0.3/0.7 of core/shell, the spherical and homogeneous surfaces of inorganic microcapsule could be synthesized. In the case of inorganic/organic microcapsules, the weitht ratio was 0.76/0.24. The pore volume of inorganic/organic microcapsules decreases more than that of inorganic microcapsule. The more the amount of shell (ethyl cellulose) in inorganic/organic microcapsules increases, the more the coating became homogeneous and the pore volume decreased.

        철근콘크리트교의 신뢰성 및 안전도 평가

        본 연구는 총기대비용최소화기법에 의한 실용적이고 현실적인 해석모형을 제시하는데에 그 목적이 있으며, 주요목적중에 하나로서 철근콘크리트교량의 현장시험과 조사결과에 의해 도출된 저항계수(RF)라는 평가항목에 의해 현재 철근콘크리트부재들에 안전한 평가와 내하력을 결정하는데에 있다. 총기대비용최소화기법은 가정된 모델들의 신뢰성해석에 사용되며, 가정한 신뢰성모델과 신뢰성해석방법은 철근콘크리트부재들의 안전한 평가와 시스템계수에 적용되어진다. This study is to propose a practical and realistic reliability analysis by ETCM (Expected Total Cost Minimization). One of the main objectives is intended to propose the safety assessment and capacity rating of existing reinforced concrete members by evaluation index, that is RF(Rating Factor) from the results of the field test and inspection for reinforced concrete bridge. ETCM method is used for the reliability analysis of the proposed models. The proposed reliability model and method are applied to the safety assessment and system factors of reinforced concrete members.
