Quantitative Thermopower Profiling across a Silicon p–n Junction with Nanometer Resolution

<P>Thermopower (<I>S</I>) profiling with nanometer resolution is essential for enhancing the thermoelectric figure of merit, <I>ZT</I>, through the nanostructuring of materials and for carrier density profiling in nanoelectronic devices. However, only qualitative and impractical methods or techniques with low resolutions have been reported thus far. Herein, we develop a quantitative <I>S</I> profiling method with nanometer resolution, scanning Seebeck microscopy (SSM), and batch-fabricate diamond thermocouple probes to apply SSM to silicon, which requires a contact stress higher than 10 GPa for stable electrical contact. The distance between the positive and negative peaks of the <I>S</I> profile across the silicon p–n junction measured by SSM is 4 nm, while the theoretical distance is 2 nm. Because of its extremely high spatial resolution, quantitative measurement, and ease of use, SSM could be a crucial tool not only for the characterization of nano-thermoelectric materials and nanoelectronic devices but also for the analysis of nanoscale thermal and electrical phenomena in general.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/nalefd/2012/nalefd.2012.12.issue-9/nl301359c/production/images/medium/nl-2012-01359c_0004.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/nl301359c'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
DNAJB9 Inhibits p53-Dependent Oncogene-Induced Senescence and Induces Cell Transformation

DNAJB9 is known to be a member of the molecular chaperone gene family, whose cellular function has not yet been fully characterized. Here, we investigated the cellular function of DNAJB9 under strong mitogenic signals. We found that DNAJB9 inhibits p53-dependent oncogene-induced senescence (OIS) and induces neoplastic transformation under oncogenic RAS activation in mouse primary fibroblasts. In addition, we observed that DNAJB9 interacts physically with p53 under oncogenic RAS activation and that the p53-interacting region of DNAJB9 is critical for the inhibition of p53-dependent OIS and induction of neoplastic transformation by DNAJB9. These results suggest that DNAJB9 induces cell transformation under strong mitogenic signals, which is attributable to the inhibition of p53-dependent OIS by physical interactions with p53. This study might contribute to our understanding of the cellular function of DNAJB9 and the molecular basis of cell transformation.

<P>The majority of colon cancers develop from pre-existing adenomas. We analyzed the expression profiles in the sequence of normal colon crypts, adenomas and early-stage carcinomas using microdissected cells from tubular adenomas with foci of malignant transformation. Differentially expressed genes were detected between normal-adenoma and adenoma-carcinoma, and were grouped according to the patterns of expression changes in the sequence. Down-regulated genes in the sequence included PLA2G2A, TSPAN1, PDCD4, FCGBP, AATK, EPLIN, FABP1, AGR2, MTUS1, TSC1, galectin 4 and MT1F. PLA2G2A has been shown to suppress colon tumorigenesis in mice, but the pathobiological role in humans has been controversial. Our data showed continuous down-regulation of PLA2G2A in the sequence supporting an implication in human colon cancer. Tumor suppressor and/ or proapoptotic activities have also been reported in other genes. Up-regulated genes included ribosomal proteins, IER3 and TPR. TGF-beta2 and matrix metalloproteinase 23B were up-regulated in carcinoma but not in adenoma, supporting the pathobiological roles in malignant transformation. Differentially expressed genes partly coincided with those in the adenoma-carcinoma sequence of the stomach, which was published previously, suggesting a partial overlap between the adenoma-carcinoma sequences of the colon and stomach.</P>

We designed and fabricated a noble diamond thermoelectric probe which can measure the thermoelectric properties on semiconductor surfaces. To measure the thermoelectric property of a semiconductor, not only the temperature but also the thermoelectric voltage at the tip-sample contact should be measured simultaneously. However, previous Scanning Thermal Microscopy (SThM) probes do not ensure the electrical contact with silicon because the native oxide exists on the surface, therefore, the thermoelectric voltage cannot be measured. In order to overcome this limitation, the probe tip is made of B-doped CVD diamond by silicon lost mould technique. And then a gold-diamond thermocouple junction is formed at the tip apex to measure the contact temperature. The size of the thermocouple is about 500 ㎚ and the radius of tip apex is less than 100 ㎚. The probe shows good electrical contacts with the doped silicon surfaces.
뇌 스파르가눔증으로 인한 호산구성 위염 환자에서의 프라지콴텔 치료

저자들은 최근 구역과 구토로 내원한 65세 남자에서 위내시경을 통하여 위체부에 다발성 홍반을 발견하였고, 조직 검사 결과 다수의 호산구 침윤을 확인하였다. 또한 생식을 한 과거력을 바탕으로 혈청과 뇌척수액 검사를 통한 기생충 검사 그리고 뇌 자기공명영상을 시행하여 뇌 스파르가눔증을 의심하였다. 뇌 스파르가눔에 대한 수술적 치료는 시행하지 못하였으나 프라지콴텔을 투여하여 소화기 증상 및 신경학적 증상이 호전되었다. 호산구성 위염의 치료를 위해서는 기생충 감염, 약물, 알레르기 질환 등 이차성 호산구성 위염의 원인을 배제하는 것이 중요하며, 특히 뱀과 개구리를 생식하는 우리나라에서는 병력 청취 및 검사를 통하여 기생충 감염증을 고려하는 것이 필요할 것으로 사료된다. Eosinophilic gastritis is characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract, which is associated with abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. The possible etiologies of secondary eosinophilic gastritis, including drug reactions, parasitic infestation, and malignancy, must be evaluated. Herein we report the case of a 65-year-old North Korean defector who presented with nausea and vomiting for 1 year. Secondary (reactive) eosinophilic gastritis caused by cerebral sparganosis was suspected after a workup that included brain magnetic resonance imaging, cerebrospinal fluid tapping, and gastric mucosal biopsy. The patient showed dramatic clinical improvement with high-dose praziquantel treatment. Even though secondary (reactive) eosinophilic gastritis caused by parasites is very rare, this case shows the importance of considering parasitic infection in eosinophilic gastritis. SGML[1]은 이 기종간의 호환이 가능하고 문서의 논리적인 구조를 포함할 수 있다는 장점 때문에 CALS, EC/EDI 등의 다양한 분야에서 문서처리의 표준 포맷으로 자리잡았다. 이에 SGML 문서를 쉽게 생성 및 편집할 수 있는 문서편집기에 대한 요구가 급증하고 있으며 현재 전세계적으로 이에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행 중에 있으며 이미 많은 제품들이 상용화되어 있다. 그러나 기존의 문서편집기는 SGML 문서의 프리젠테이션을 위하여 독자적인 스타일 포맷을 사용한다. 이는 개방형 문서 표준인 SGML의 본래 취지에 어긋나는 것이다. 이에 ISO(International Organization Standardization)에서는 SGML 문서의 다양한 처리정보를 기술할 수 있는 표준 안으로 DSSSL[2]을 제안하였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 DSSSL을 지원하며 한글처리가 가능한 SGML 문서편집기를 개발하였다.

The contact and messenger wire is important parts in the electric power system of the railroad. There are so many measurement method like voltage, current, scratch of surface, and glow longer of length. In this paper suggest real time monitering system of messenger wire so called RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) and this system includes CDMA module to transfer real time or saved data of memory to the end user directly who is in the long distance. The hyper terminal program of windows shows the downloaded data from RTU through CDMA communication and this data can be transferred to excel sheet easily.
