        Cadmium, a major aquatic pollutant in many parts of the world, is toxic and readily accumulated in aquatic organisms. It mainly exists in water as complexes with organic ligands such as dissolved organic carbon and this complexation is known to have effects on the aquatic toxicities. In this study, acute toxicity, histology, and bioaccumulation were studied to evaluate effects of humic acid on cadmium toxicity and bioavailability to fish using Oryzias latipes and Cyprinus carpio. 96h-LC50 of cadmium was 6.38 ㎎/L using Oryzias latipes. However, the mortality showed the dose-dependent decrease when humic acid was added to the test solution. When fish were exposed to 5㎎/L of cadmium, histological changes in the exposed organs(caudal fins, gills, kidney, liver, and gut) of Cyprinus carpio were decreased by humic acid, especially in kidney and liver. Bioaccumulation of cadmium also decreased by treatment of humic acid. It seems that the formation of complexes between cadmium and humic acid may decrease bioavailability of cadmium to fish, and thus reduce the toxic effects of cadmium.

        We experienced a 25 year-old male patient with typhoid fever complicated with massive hemoptysis. Pulmonary complication in typhoid fever is very rare and to our knowledge, there has been no report of hemoptysis as a main cause of death with this disease. We herein report a rare case of typhoid fever.

        A Multi-Center Educational Research Regarding Breastfeeding for Pediatrics Residents in Korea

        Purpose: Pediatricians have a significant responsibility to educate mothers about the importance of breastfeeding. However, there have been minimal efforts in the courses of resident training in Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the change in knowledge and attitude before and after a 4-week breastfeeding educational intervention among multicenter residents. Methods: Prospective interventional educational research was designed for residents at eight training hospitals in Korea. Institutional reviews were obtained in each hospital. The education curriculum consisted of 14 courses regarding breastfeeding theory and practice. These materials were used to teach pediatric residents for 4 weeks. Knowledge-based tests were administered before the course, and re-tests were administered after the course using different test items of similar levels. Test scores and survey responses were compared before and after the intervention. Results: A total of 73 residents (1st year 20, 2nd year 23, 3rd year 16, and 4th year residents 14) from eight training hospitals completed the intervention. Their average age was 30.3±2.9 years, 17 (23.3%) were male, 22 (30.1%) were married, and eight had more than one child of their own. The mean pre-test score was 61.8±13.4 and the mean post-test score was 78.3±7.5 (P<0.001). The inter-grade difference in the score was significant in the pre-test (P=0.005), but not significant in the post-test (P=0.155). There were more responses of obtaining confidence after the intervention (P<0.001). Conclusion: In our study, pediatric residents showed improvement in their knowledge and confidence level after 4 weeks of the breastfeeding curriculum.       • 다발성 근염 환자에서 발생한 스테로이드 근병증 1예

        Polymyositis is diffuse, inflammatory myopathy with proximal-muscle weakness due to lymphocyte infiltration to the muscle layer. The exact cause of the muscle weakness is unclear but may be related with an immunologic mechanism. Using high-dose steroid is the treatment of choice for polymyositis. It is difficult to distinguish steroid-resistant polymyositis from steroid myopathy, however, in the course of high-dose steroid therapy. These authors encountered a steroid myopathy patient during polymyositis treatment with high-dose steroid. A 57-year-old woman was diagnosed with polymyositis and was treated with high-dose steroid. Her condition was initially improved, but in the course of the treatment, her symptom was aggravated without increasing the muscle enzymes. Her muscle weakness was improved by reducing the steroid dosage.

        This study was designed to exam the aged's needs for spiritual nursing care. The purpose was to serve as a basis for the development of spiritual nursing practice. The major findings are as follows : 1. The degree of needs for spiritual nursing care as area was that needs of love and relationship mean 22.0, needs of meaning and object mean 28.2, needs of forgiving mean 13.5. Total needs for spiritual nursing care mean 63.7, which was on the upper middle level. The needs of meaning and object was rated highest. 2. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, needs of love and relatiohship wasn't significanlty different. 3. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, needs of meaning and object was significantly different according to two factors : age(F=7.260, p=0.001), religion(F=5.275, p=0.001). Higher needs of meaning and object was possessed by the older than the younger, by the one who have religion than the other. 4. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, four factors made a significantly difference to needs of forgiving : sex(t=-2.851, p=0.006), age(F=8.201, p=0.001), religion(F=6.928, p=0.000), disease(t=2.327, p=0.024). Higher needs of forgiving was possessed by man than woman, by the older than the younger, by the one who have religion than the other, by the one who have disease than the other.

        메타인지 전략을 활용한 수업이 실과의 사고 기능에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to apply three-staged metacognition strategy(plan-monitor-control) based teaching on chair making task with corrugated cardboard in an elementary practical course to verify the effect of metacognition strategy-adopted teaching on thinking skill. 80 6th grade students from B elementary school in A city, Kyonggi province were enrolled to verity the hypothesis. A post inspection control group design was used among the designs which use the existing class structure. The metacognition strategy-adopted teaching (self-plan, self-monitoring, and self-controlling) was used on the experimental group and classic teaching method was applied on the control group. The effect was verified by post inspection method. To verify the effect of post evaluation results, t-score method was used and significance level was set as p<0.5 For statistical analysis SPSS/WIN 10.0 was used for statistical treatment. The result showed that the group which used the metacognition strategy-applied teaching came up with better performance on thinking skill in a practical arts than the control group. The conclusion derived from the above study is that metacognition strategy-adopted teaching was more effective in thinking skill in a practical arts than the class method. The study suggests that a better learning efficiency can be achieved by applying metacognition strategy in the thinking skill of a practical arts.

        예비수학교사의 신념에 따른 교수학적 내용지식(PCK)과의 관련성에 관한 연구

        This study investigated the relationship between PCK (Pedagogical Content Knowledge) and pre-service mathematics teachers' mathematical beliefs, and the effects of PCK on their teaching. The data were collected through pre & post interviews, a questionnaire, and classroom observations of six pre-service mathematics teachers who were taking their field practica in their senior year. The results indicate that the pre-service mathematics teachers' differing beliefs about the nature of mathematics affected their PCK. This study showed the relationship between their beliefs about teaching and the learning of mathematics and PCK. It is recommended that more opportunities for PCK development, as well as for modifications in of their beliefs have to be offered in education programs for pre-service mathematics teachers. 본 연구의 목적은 예비수학교사들의 수학적 신념과 수업에서 발현된 교수학적 내용지식(PCK)의 특징을 알아보고, 이를 통해 수학적 신념에 따른 PCK의 관련성에 대해 분석하는 것이다. 이 연구는 교육실습 중인 예비수학교사 6명을 대상으로 실시한 PCK 설문지, 인터뷰 자료, 수업관찰 자료를 분석하는 질적 연구 방법을 토대로 하였다. 연구결과, 예비수학교사들의 다양한 수학 본질에 대한 신념은 PCK에 서로 다른 영향을 주었으며, 수학 교수-학습에 대한 신념과 PCK사이에는 밀접한 관련성이 있음을 볼 수 있었다. 따라서 신념과 교수학적 내용지식(PCK)을 함께 발달시킬 수 있는 예비교사 연수 및 지원 프로그램의 확충이 필요하다.

      • 農村兒童에 대한 禁忌行動의 根源과 敎育的 影響

        This study is to collect taboos for children existing in rural Korea, to seek for their causes, and to explore their educational effects on those children. Information was gathered through the authors' own experiences and through interview with key informants (28 men and 24 women) who participated in leadership training for Agricultural Cooperative leaders from different parts of Korea. This study could collect 16 taboos for children and most of them were found to be mainly related to the wish for wealth and long life: The taboos related to wealth showed people's strong desire to live happily with better food, clothes, and house. Ten out of 16 taboos were related to wealth and prosperity and four of them, to long lives. The causes of such taboos were not clarified in this study and it was found that the children were prohibited to act against the taboo with no reason or rational ground. It was also found that most of them have educational dysfunction for the children to be less active and creative and to lose their reliability to parents who force them to keep the 16 taboos collected in this study.
