This study was conducted to investigated the major characteristics of genetically modified rice of "Milyang 204" originated from Dongjinbyeo compared to a non-transgenic rice varieties Dongjinbyeo and Junambyeo. Basta resistant transgenic rice lines carrying bar gene produced by the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute were evaluated for their agronomic characters. The transgenic Japonica rice of "Milyang 204" showed inferior phenotypic traits compared to a non-transgenic rice variety Dongjinbyeo and Junambyeo. On the basis of UPOV (Union Internationale Pour la Protaection des Obtentions Vegetables) and NSMO(National Seed Management Office) the transgenic "Milyang 204" showed difference in some traits out of some agronomic traits, such as leaf color, angle of flag leaf, number of spikelets, culm length, white core and white belly compared to the nontransgenic varieties rice.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is characterized by pancytopenia in the peripheral blood due to ineffective hematopoiesis in the bone marrow. Even though pregnancy complicated with MDS is extremely rare, it can be associated with a risk of bleeding or infection during pregnancy. Therefore, meticulous supportive care including proper transfusion of packed red blood cell or platelet concentrate and decision of timing of delivery should be provided. In this report, we present a pregnancy complicated with MDS and severe preeclampsia simultaneously with a brief review of literatures.

<P>With the increase of tea (<I>Camellia sinensis</I>) consumption, its chemical or metabolite compositions play a crucial role in the determination of tea quality. In general, metabolite compositions of fresh tea leaves including shoots depend on plucking seasons and tea cultivators. Therefore, choosing a specific plucking time of tea leaves can provide use-specified tea products. Artificial control of tea growing, typically shade treatments, can lead to significant changes of the tea metabolite compositions. However, metabolic characteristics of tea grown under various shade treatment conditions remain unclear. Therefore, the objective of the current study was to explore effects of various shade conditions on metabolite compositions of tea through a <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR-based metabolomics approach. It was noteworthy that the levels of catechins and their derivatives were only influenced at the initial time of shade treatments while most amino acids were upregulated as amounts of shade and periods were increased: that is, the levels of alanine, asparagine, aspartate, isoleucine, threonine, leucine, and valine in fresh tea leaves were conspicuously elevated when shade levels were raised from 90% to 100% and when period of shade treatments was increased by 20 days. Such increased synthesis of amino acids along with large reductions of glucose level reflected carbon starvation under the dark conditions, indicating remarkable proteolysis in the chloroplast of tea leaves. 수도권매립지 바이오가스를 이용한 수소생산 및 활용방안 마련

최근 우리나라는 수소경제 활성화를 위해 수소생산 단계부터 활용단계, 안전분야까지 정부주도로 추진중에 있다. 현재까지 수소모빌리티, 연료전지 등 활용분야에 대해서는 많은 기술개발과 글로벌 경쟁력을 확보하고 있으나, 공급부분에 있어서는 부생수소를 통해 일부 지역에 국한되어 활용되고 있는 실정에 있다. 이에 그린수소 확대·전환 등 원활한 수소공급을 위해 수소추출 등 대규모 수소생산에 집중이 필요한 상황에 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 수도권매립지로 반입되는 음식물류폐수의 혐기성소화 후 생산된 바이오가스를 활용한 수소추출 방법 및 이때 생산된 수소를 활용하기 위한 비즈니스모델을 제시하고자 하였다. 바이오가스 조성 대부분은 메탄과 이산화탄소로 구성되어 있으며, 일부 불순물이 포함되어 있어 수소생산으로 활용하기 위해서는 전처리 공정이 필연적이다. 본 연구에서는 수소추출 원료로 사용된 바이오가스를 시간당 약 600 m<sup>3</sup><sub>(인입 바이오가스 기준)</sub>로 활용하는 것으로 가정하고, 바이오가스 전처리 공정은 기존에 운영 중인 불순물제거·고질화 공정 일부를 개선하여 활용하는 방안으로 검토하였다. 이때 생산된 수소는 수소추출설비의 초기투자비 등을 고려하여 일일 약 640 kg으로 산정하였다. 수소충전설비는 디스펜서 1기를 포함한 일반적인 수소충전시스템을 고려하였으며, 수소충전소의 운영시간은 인건비 등을 감안하여 12시간을 기준으로 하였다. 수소 수요예측은 수도권매립지 주변의 거주지역 등을 고려하였다. 이를 통한 비즈니스 모델로는 수소충전소 운영을 통한 소매판매 및 유통사를 통한 수소판매 등으로 검토되었으며, 이를 활용한 경제성은 수소 수요량 증대에 따라 판매형태 비율 조정, 디스펜서 신규구축 및 수소추출설비 확대 등에 따라 다르게 나타나는 것으로 확인되었다. 추후 수도권매립지의 바이오가스 활용량 증대, 수소추출 기술 적용 등을 통해 수도권 북부권역의 수소생산기지로서 수소공급을 위한 중요한 역할을 나타낼 것으로 사료된다.

Breeding the whole crop siliage rice cultivar basically requires priority in high biomass and grain yield and tolerance biotic and abiotic stresses. In this context, AA genome wild rices are potential resources to broaden genetic variability for whole crop silage cultivar. We have developed several introgression populations from crosses with three AA genome wild rices, O.glaberrima, O.rufipogon, and O.longistamina. Among these populations, the three BC4F8 near isogenic lines (NILs) derived from a cross of Milyang 23 and O.glaberrima(acc. 101154) could produce the high-yielding lines surpassing Milyang 23 by 20% in grain yield. Introgression lines from crosses with 4 accessions of O.rufipogon with japonica rices, Hwaseongbyeo and Ilpumbyeo had huge agronomic variability and very tall and vigorous lines possessing culm length of 125 ∼ 187cm were selected as promising potential parents to improve biomass of existing cultivars. These selections with high yield potential and biomass will be crossed to create another gene pool to combine high yield and biomass and anther culture breeding could be useful to develop genetically fixed F2 lines with both traits.
Effect of Rhizoma gastrodiae on oxidative stress in cultured mouse spinal motor neurons

To clarify the toxic effect of oxidative stress, hydrogen peroxide $(H_{2}O_{2})-induced$ neurotoxicity was examined in cultured newborn mouse spinal motor neurons after spinal motor neurons were grown in the media containing various concentrations of glucose oxidase (GO). And also, the protective effect of Rhizoma gastrodiae extract against GO-induced neurotoxicity was evaluated. Cytotoxicity was expressed as a cell viability by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) -2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. In this study, exposure of motor neurons to GO-induced cell death significantly, in a dose- and time-dependent manners in spinal motor neuron cultures. The decrease in cell viability of motor neurons damaged by GO was proventioned by Rhizoma gastrodiae extract. These results suggest that the neuroprotective effect of Rhizoma gastrodiae extract on GO-induced neurotoxicity may result from a attenuation of $H_{2}O_{2}-induced$ oxidative stress.

산소자유기의 신경독성을 조사하기 위하여 배양 희소돌기아교세포에 여러 농도의 xanthine oxidase(XO)와 hypoxanthine(HX)을 4시간 동안 처리한 후 MTT 분석법에 의하여 산소자유기의 독성효과를 분석하였으며, 동시에 산소자유기의 독성에 대한 한약추출물인 천마(Rhizoma Gastrodiae, RG)의 방어효과를 조사하였다. 30mU/㎖ XO와 0.1mM HX에서 4시간 동안 신경세포를 처리한 결과 산소자유기는 처리한 농도와 시간에 비례하여 세포의 생존율을 현저하게 감소시켰다. 또한 한약추출물인 천마는 XO/HX에 손상된 희소돌기아교세포의 생존율을 현저히 증가시켰다. 위의 결과로부터 산소자유기는 배양 생쥐의 희소돌기아교세포에 신경독성을 나타냈으며, 천마와 같은 한약추출물이 산화적 손상을 방어하는데 매우 효과적 이었다. To elucidate the cytotoxity of oxygen radicals on cultured mouse oligodendrocytes damaged by oxidant-induced neurotoxicity, MTT assay was done when cultured oligodendrocytes were grown in the media containing various concentrations of xanthine oxidase(XO) and hypoxanthine(HX) for 4 hours. In addition, neuroprotective effect of herb extract was examined. The exposure of cells to 30mU/㎖ XO and 0.1 HX for 4 hours induced the decrease of cell viability remarkably in dose-and time-dependent manner in these cultures, and also herb exract, Rhizoma Gastrodiae increased cell viability of oligodendrocytes damaged by XO/HX. From the above results, it is suggested that oxygen radicals are toxic in cultured oligodendrocytes derived from mouse, and Rhizoma Gastrodiae is effective in prevention of oxidant-induced neurotoxicity.
