      • Projections of summertime ozone concentration over East Asia under multiple IPCC SRES emission scenarios

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We have developed the Integrated Climate and Air Quality Modeling System (ICAMS) through the one-way nesting of global–regional models to examine the changes in the surface ozone concentrations over East Asia under future climate scenarios. Model simulations have been conducted for the present period of 1996–2005 to evaluate the performance of ICAMS. The simulated surface ozone concentrations reproduced the observed monthly mean concentrations at sites in East Asia with high R<SUP>2</SUP> values (0.4–0.9), indicating a successful simulation to capture both spatial and temporal variability. We then performed several model simulations with the six IPCC SRES scenarios (A2, A1B, A1FI, A1T, B1, and B2) for the next three periods, 2016–2025 (the 2020s), 2046–2055 (the 2050s), and 2091–2100 (the 2090s). The model results show that the projected changes of the annual daily mean maximum eight-hour (DM8H) surface ozone concentrations in summertime for East Asia are in the range of 2–8 ppb, −3 to 8 ppb, and −7 to 9 ppb for the 2020s, the 2050s, and the 2090s, respectively, and are primarily determined based on the emission changes of NO<SUB>x</SUB> and NMVOC. The maximum increases in the annual DM8H surface ozone and high-ozone events occur in the 2020s for all scenarios except for A2, implying that the air quality over East Asia is likely to get worse in the near future period (the 2020s) than in the far future periods (the 2050s and the 2090s). The changes in the future environment based on IPCC SRES scenarios would also influence the change in the occurrences of high-concentrations events more greatly than that of the annual DM8H surface ozone concentrations. Sensitivity simulations show that the emissions increase is the key factor in determining future regional surface ozone concentrations in the case of a developing country, China, whereas a developed country, Japan would be influenced more greatly by effects of the regional climate change than the increase in emissions.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Change in ozone level is determined by the combination of NO<SUB>x</SUB> and NMVOC emissions. </LI> <LI> Ozone level over East Asia would get worse in the near future (the 2020s) than far future. </LI> <LI> A high-concentration event generally increases and more frequently occurs in the future. </LI> <LI> Change in ozone air quality in a developing country depends more on emissions change. </LI> <LI> Change in ozone air quality in a developed country depends more on climate change. </LI> </UL> </P>

        한국인 A 형 간염 환자에서 A 형 간염 바이러스의 유전자형에 관한 연구

        $quot;목적: 한국에서 과거 A형 간염은 낙후된 개인위생 및 자연환경으로 유소아기에 불현성 감염으로 앓고 지나가게 되어 청소년 및 성인에서 HAV에 대한 항체 보유율이 매우 높고 성인에서의 급성 A형 간염은 매우 드물게 보고되었다. 그러나 고도의 경제성장과 더불어 식생활, 위생상태의 개선, 상하수도의 보급 등으로 유소아기의 A형 간염 이환율이 현격히 감소하면서 청소년 및 성인에서 HAV 항체가 없는 인구집단 즉 HAV에 감염되면 현증 간염이 발생할 수 있는 인구 집단이 증가되어 최근 수 년 사이에 현증 A형 간염이 폭발적으로 증가하게 되었다. 이에 저자는 HAV의 유전자형을 알아보고 이미 보고된 각국의 HAV와 연관성을 알아보고자 본 연구를 시행하였다. 대상과 방법: 1994년부터 1998년까지 한국에서 산발적으로 발생한 18예의 A형 간염 환자의 혈청에서 HAV RNA를 추출, 역전사-중화효소 연쇄반응법(RT-PCR)으로 증폭하여 직접 염기서열의 분석을 통해 국내 HAV 사이에 염기서열, 아미노산의 차이 등을 알아보고 세계 각국에서 보고되었던 HAV 분리주들과 비교하였다. 결과: HAV 게놈의 특정부위인 VP1/2A 연결부위 168 bp 길이에서 시행한 염기서열 분석 결과 한국에서 분리된 18예의 HA이러스는 최근 해외에서 유입된 바이러스일 가능성은 적으며 따라서 장기간 국내에서 토착화된 바이러스일 것으로 생각된다. $quot;Background/Aims: Studies of genotypes and changes in nucleotide and amino acid sequences of hepatitis A virus (HAV) may provide valuable information on the epidemiological aspects of a particular region. In Korea the prevalence of anti-HAV in the 1 - 20 year age group declined from 60% in 1980 to 9% in 1995. As a result this age group has a high risk of HAV infection. Actually over 1,500 cases of clinically overt hepatitis A occurred in 1998 while few cases of clinical hepatitis A had been reported until the early 1990s. The aims of this study are to determine the genotypes of HAV which have been circulating in Korea and to define the phylogenetic relationships of geographically defined isolates. Method: From 1994 - 1998 a total of 18 serum specimens was obtained from patients in Korea with sporadic form acute hepatitis A. The HAV nucleic acid from serum specimens was subjected to genomic sequence analysis following viral RNA extraction, reverse transcription and amplification of the cDNA by PCR. DNA sequencing was performed in both directions of each PCR product. Results: All isolates clustered within the subgenotype IA irrespective of the geographic locations and timing of the clinical hepatitis. Among 18 Korean isolates, 9 isolates had 2 amino acid sequence changes and 2 isolates had 1 amino acid sequence change. These changes in the amino acid sequences are unique and have never been reported in HAV subgenotype IA. Conclusions: All isolated HAV had genotype (IA). Eleven of 18 isolates had unique changes in amino acid sequences. These data indicate that the endemic HAV has been circulating in Korea over a long period of time.

      • 의과대학 산과학 강의에 있어서 주제발표식 학습에 시도와 문제점 분석

        Traditionally, medical education was performed by professor-centered lectures However, medical education is changing rapidly from traditional concepts to new trends. One of the changes is problem based learning. The purpose of this study is to model the modified PBL which is adjusted in our educational environment. A class of 165 students at Chosun U-niversity Medical School. was selected as a study group from August 1997 to October 1997. The lecture was performed by the students themselves every week according to lecture topics given from the tutor. The results were as follows: 1.The students' own opinions about ; ubject-Oriented Student Lecture(SOSL) were mainly(78%) that it was worthy of development with repletion. 2. The students who wanted to partici late in a lecture were 58.8%, and the students who didn't want were 38%. 3. The disadvantages of SOSL, which were indicated by students, were disorganized and disarranged lectures(31.9%), unclear lectures(30%), lack of reliability (19.4%), and partial participation(18.8%). 4. The students who participated in SOSL needed additional professor's supplementary lecture(54.3%), whole participation (48.9%), presentation skills (40%), programming (24%). preparation (17%). 5. The students had difficulty in group study (60%), subject understanding (446%). reference survey(31%),and lack of time(26%). 6. The educational patterns of Chosun Medical School were professors-entered with lecture notes (79.4%). 7. The students that wanted changes from the previous teaching methods were 96.9% and those that did not want changes were 3.1%. In conclusion, SOSL may cause some confusion and dissatisfactions to students who are familiar with traditional professors-entered lectures, but by revolution and development. SOSL will be applicated as an effective instruction in our actual circumstances.

        This paper aims at providing a concrete plan to improve technical and vocational teacher education in the College of Industrial Education of Chungnam National University. It is intended to propose a practical four-year regular and short-term course. Also, the estimated required facilities is included in this study as well as their management. The main conclusions and recommendations are summarized as follows; 1) The numbers of students enrollment should be reduced to 220 students which is the approximate number of future demand. 2) In order to offer to the students a broader education and to cope with the increase/decrease in demand of technical and vocational teacher within a specific field, the 8 department existing at the present (Department of Architecture Engineering Education, Civil Eng. Educ., Metallurgical Eng. Educ., Mechanical Eng. .Educ., Electrical Eng. Educ., Electronic Eng. Educ., Industrial Chemistry Educ. and Industrial Technology Educ.) would be combined into 5 (Department of Construction Engineering Education, Mechanical Eng. Educ., Electrical Eng. Educ., Industrial Chemistry Educ. and Industrial Technology Educ.). 3) The short-term course program is recommened to provide additional training and education to those candidates who already have experience in technical fields to meet an occasional demand. 4) It is necessary to add the Teaching Profession Section in the administrative organization of the College.

        두개강내로 전이된 Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma 2례 : 증례보고 Report of Two Cases

        The authors describe two cases of unusual intracranial metastatic adenoid cystic carcinomas. A 42-year-old woman had a right pariental epidural metastatic mass. presumed hematogenous. spread from a primary tumor in the parotid gland. In second case, a 32-year-old man had a intracranial metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma mimicking calcified psammomatous meningioma on CT scans. We present these unusual cases with a review of relevant literature and a discussion of possible pathogenesis.

      • Baculovirus를 이용한 Aujeszky's Disease Virus gⅢ 단백질 발현

        The g Ⅲ gene located in U_L region of Yangsan strain, a field isolate of Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) in Korea, was cloned into pTZ18R and sequenced. The gⅢ gene consisting of 1,437 nucleotides showed 98% sequence homology with that of Becker strain, a reference strain of ADV. The gene encoding gⅢ of Yangsan strain was placed under the control of Autographa californica nucleopolyhedrosis virus (AcNPV) polyhedrin promoter, and expressed by the derived recombinant baculovirus using Spodoptera frugiperda 9 (Sf9) cells. The expressed gⅢ was a protein with molecular weight of 72kd determined by immunoprecipitation and Western blotting assay using anti-ADV polyclonal antibodies and anti-gⅢ monoclonal antibody. The partially purified gⅢ protein was utilized as antigen in the radial immunodiffusion enzyme assay (RIDEA) to detect to specific antibody against ADV in pig sera. The results indicated that the sensitivity of RIDEA with the recombinant gⅢ protein antigen (98%) was as high as that with the conventional glycoprotein antigen extracted from the ADV infected cells. In addition, the false positive and false nagative reactions in gⅢ RIDEA were significantly reduced than the conventional glycoprotein RIDEA as judged from the results of standard serum neutralization test.

        In this study, the equipment and method to recyle waste-paint, were developed and investigated. The efficiency of drying and pulverizing the waste-paint were improved via vescosity reducing process and microwave energy source with a blast of hot air. This method may be useful to recyle the waste-paint, rubber and plastics.

      • 초·중·고 정신지체 학생들의 운동기능향상을 위한 운동프로그램 적용 효과

        본 연구는 정신지체 학생들을 대상으로 Frostig의 운동교육 프로그램인 MGL 프로그램을 장애 정도에 맞게 재구성하여 12주간에 걸쳐 훈련을 실시하고 전신운동기능 발달에 미치는 효과를 규명하고자 하였고, MGL운동교육 프로그램은 정신지체 학생들의 전신운동 기능향상에 매우 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 사전·사후의 운동기능검사에서 근력·민첩성·평형성 영역에서 뚜렷한 효과가 나타났다. 하위 검사별로 근력·민첩성 영역에서는 의자에 엎드려 팔굽혀펴기, 윗몸 일으키기의 순으로 전신운동 기능이 향상되었고, 평형성 영역에서는 눈감고 한발 균형 잡기, 보행판 걷기의 순서로 전신운동 기능이 향상되었으며, 초·중·고 학급에 따른 프로그램 적용 효과에서는 중·고등학급에서 훈련 효과가 더 높게 나타났다.
