        김구와 이승만의 지정인식

        우남 이승만(雩南굃承晩, 1875-1965)과 백범 김구(白凡金九, 1876-1949)의 지정인식을 비교분석한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대한제국 망국 이전 이승만과 김구는 중국중심적 지정인식으로부터 벗어나 주권독립에 대한 인식을 확립했다. 이러한 인식의 확립에는 근대주권체제의 확립과 불가분의 관계에 있었던 개신교가 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 대한민국 임시정부가 소련과의 제휴여부를 놓고 내분을 겪을 때에, 이승만과 김구는 공히 소련의 영향력 팽창을 경계하는 입장을 취했다. 셋째, 아시아-태평양전쟁 시기 이승만과 김구의 협력은 대동아공영권이라는 일본의 지정전략에 맞서는 동시에 중국(아시아)과 미국(태평양)의 지정적 연대를 상징했다. 넷째, 이승만은 태평양으로 팽창하던 미국의 힘과 가치를 중시하면서 중국을 보조적인 협조자로 생각했다. 이에 비해 김구는 순치적 관계에 있는 중국과의 지정적 연결성을 중요하게 생각했다. 다섯째, 이승만은 세계의 대세를 통찰하는 거시적 시야를 가지고 있었던데 비해 아시아대륙의 혁명적 열기에 상대적으로 둔감했다면, 김구의 시야는 이승만의 그것에 비해 상대적으로 협소했지만 유라시아대륙의 혁명적 열기에 훨씬 민감했다. 여섯째, 전 세계적 냉전이 악화되는 가운데 동아시아의 한반도를 자신의 영향권 안에 두고자 했던 대륙세력과 해양세력 간의 대립구도 속에서 두 사람이 가졌던 지정인식의 공통점 보다는 그 차이점이 전면으로 부상했다. 그러나 광복과 건국에 기여했던 두 인물의 지정인식 상의 공통점은 대륙세력과 해양세력 사이의 균열과 남북한 분단이라는 이중적 단층구조를 뛰어넘고자 하는 21세기 대한민국의 지정학적 사유에 있어서 중요한 모퉁이돌이 될 수 있을 것이다. This paper compares the geopolitical perceptions of Syngman RHEE (雩南굃承晩, 1875-1965, He was one of the first Koreans who wrote his name in the Western manner, with the personal name preceding the family name) and KIM Koo (白凡金九, 1876-1949). The conclusions of this paper are as follows. First, both Rhee and Kim developed their perceptions of Independence (獨立) during the period of TaehanCheguk(大韓帝國, the Great Han Empire) which was strengthened by their embracement of Protestantism, ideational foundation of modern sovereignty in Europe. Second, both Rhee and Kim took precautions against the expansion of Soviet communism at a time when the Korean Provisional Government, founded after the end of World War I, was feuding over the issue of cooperating with the Soviets. Third, Rhee and Kim incarnated the geopolitical linkage between China (Asia) and the U.S. (the Pacific) against the Japanese geopolitical vision of a Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere(大東亞共榮圈) during the Asia-Pacific War. Fourth, while Rhee highly regarded U.S. power and her cause regarding China as merely an auxiliary assistant to the global role of the U.S. at that time, Kim placed greater emphasis on the linkage between Korea and China, metaphorically describing the Korea-China relationship as one of Soon-chi(脣齒, lips and teeth). Fifth, while Rhee had a macroscopic geopolitical perspective, he was relatively impervious to the rising tide of the Asian revolutionary atmosphere. In contrast, while Kim’s geopolitical perspective was relatively limited to Asia, he was more aware of the impending Asian revolutionary wave. These divergent geopolitical perceptions were not irrelevant to the separate trajectories of these two great political figures after 1948. By the advent of two governments in Korean peninsula and the aggravation of the Cold War in which the Sino-Russian camp and the U.S. camp competed for keeping the Korean peninsular in its own zone of influence, the differences overshadowed the commonalities in the geopolitical perceptions of Syngman RHEE and KIM Koo. However, the commonalities of their geopolitical perceptions which had contributed to the liberation of Korea from Japanese occupation and the birth of the Republic of Korea can be a cornerstone of South Korean geopolitical thinking in the 21st Century to overcome the dual fault lines, i.e. the inter-Korean division along with the confrontation between sea power and continental power on the Korean peninsula.

        Selective Oxidative Degradation of Organic Pollutants by Singlet Oxygen-Mediated Photosensitization: Tin Porphyrin versus C<sub>60</sub> Aminofullerene Systems

        <P>This study evaluates the potential application of tin porphyrin- and C<SUB>60</SUB> aminofullerene-derivatized silica (SnP/silica and aminoC<SUB>60</SUB>/silica) as <SUP>1</SUP>O<SUB>2</SUB> generating systems for photochemical degradation of organic pollutants. Photosensitized <SUP>1</SUP>O<SUB>2</SUB> production with SnP/silica, which was faster than with aminoC<SUB>60</SUB>/silica, effectively oxidized a variety of pharmaceuticals. Significant degradation of pharmaceuticals in the presence of the 400-nm UV cutoff filter corroborated visible light activation of both photosensitizers. Whereas the efficacy of aminoC<SUB>60</SUB>/silica for <SUP>1</SUP>O<SUB>2</SUB> production drastically decreased under irradiation with λ > 550 nm, Q-band absorption caused negligible loss of the photosensitizing activity of SnP/silica in the long wavelength region. Faster destruction of phenolates by SnP/silica and aminoC<SUB>60</SUB>/silica under alkaline pH conditions further implicated <SUP>1</SUP>O<SUB>2</SUB> involvement in the oxidative degradation. Direct charge transfer mediated by SnP, which was inferred from nanosecond laser flash photolysis, induced significant degradation of neutral phenols under high power light irradiation. Self-sensitized destruction caused gradual activity loss of SnP/silica in reuse tests unlike aminoC<SUB>60</SUB>/silica. The kinetic comparison of SnP/silica and TiO<SUB>2</SUB> photocatalyst in real wastewater effluents showed that photosensitized singlet oxygenation of pharmaceuticals was still efficiently achieved in the presence of background organic matters, while significant interference was observed for photocatalyzed oxidation involving non-selective OH radical.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/esthag/2012/esthag.2012.46.issue-17/es301775k/production/images/medium/es-2012-01775k_0009.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/es301775k'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

        Common LISP 상에서 한글 처리가 용이한 개발환경을 구축함은, 현재 개발 중에 있는 복합형 인공지능 개발 시스템 HyKET(Hybrid Knowledge Engineering Tool)의 기본이 되는 부분이다. 본 논문은 Common LISP 상의 한글 개발환경으로서 구현된 입력 편집기(Input Editor)와 화면 편집기(한글 GMACS) 개발에 대하여 설명한다. 이들 시스템은 개인용 컴퓨터(IBM-PC)에서 인공지능 시스템 개발용으로 많이 사용되는 GCLISP(Golden Common LISP) 상에 구현하였다.

        레몬과 크랜베리즙이 닭 다리육의 저장품질에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 레몬즙과 크랜베리즙에 닭 다리육을 침지하여 저장성 증진 및 품질에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 실시하였다. 처리구는 닭 다리육을 멸균수에 침지한 대조구(CON), 1% 레몬즙에 침지한 처리구(LJ), 1% 크랜베리즙에 침지한 처리구(CJ), 0.5% 레몬즙과 0.5% 크랜베리즙을 혼합하여 침지한 처리구(LCJ)이었다. 닭 다리육을 레몬즙과 크랜베리즙에 20분간 침지시킨 후 4±1℃ 냉장실에서 0, 3, 6, 9일 동안 저장하면서 pH, 총균수, 육색, 관능적 특성, 지방산패도, 휘발성 염기태질소, 전자코를 이용하여 향기패턴의 변화를 분석하였다. 저장 3일차부터 모든 처리구는 대조구보다 유의적으로(P<0.05) 낮은 총균수를 나타내었으며, 또한 종합적 기호도는 저장 3일차부터 대조구보다 유의적으로(P<0.05) 높은 점수를 나타내었다. 또한 지방산패도와 휘발성 염기태질소 함량도 저장 3일차부터 처리구가 대조구보다 유의적으로 낮은 값을 나타내어 레몬즙과 크랜베리즙의 처리가 저장기간 동안 닭 다리육의 부패를 억제시킨 것으로 사료되며 이는 저장 3일차부터 처리구의 분포가 대조구와 구분되는 전자코 향기분석 결과와 유사하였다. 결과적으로 1% 천연 레몬즙과 크랜베리즙의 처리는 저장기간 동안 닭 다리육의 지방 산패와 단백질 부패를 억제하여 관능적인 특성의 감소를 지연시켜 저장 품질을 향상시키는 것으로 사료된다. This study was performed to evaluate the effect of lemon and cranberry juice on meat quality of chicken thighs during cold storage. Experimental groups were chicken thigh meat dipped into distilled water (CON), 1% lemon juice (LJ), 1% cranberry juice (CJ), and a mixture of 0.5% lemon juice and 0.5% cranberry juice (LCJ). The meat quality traits were determined at day 0, 3, 6, and 9 during cold storage at 4℃. The pH value of all treatments was lower than that of the control (P<0.05). Total microorganisms of CJ and LCJ at day 9 was 6.94 and 6.76 log CFU/g, respectively, whereas that of the control was 7.51 log CFU/g. The a* value of CJ and LCJ was higher than that of CON and LJ during storage (P<0.05), whereas the b* value of LJ, CL, and LCJ was lower than that of CON at day 6 and 9 (P<0.05). Overall acceptability of all treatments was significantly higher than that of CON after day 3. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and volatile basic nitrogen values were lower than those of the CON after day 3 (P<0.05). Principle component analysis (PCA) of the aroma pattern of all treatments was closer together, whereas PCA of the CON was scattered with the increase in storage days. This result suggests that dipping the chicken thigh meat into the lemon and cranberry juice could be beneficial to enhance chicken thigh meat quality by retardation of total microbes, lipid oxidation, and protein decomposition.

        Optimization of enzymatic treatment for compound K production from white ginseng extract by response surface methodology.

        <P>Ginsenoside 20-O-β-D glucopyranosyl-20(S)-protopanaxadiol (compound K), a minor ginsenoside, is not found in white raw ginseng, but has better bioavailability than the major ginsenosides in ginseng. Employing commercial enzyme packages for industrial applications, the optimum conditions for enzymatic transformation for the highest content of compound K was explored to enhance the health benefits of ginseng extract. Cytolase PCL 5 was selected from commercial enzyme packages nominated for high β-glucosidase activity. By response surface methodology, the optimal conditions were identified as 78 h of treatment at pH 4.3 at 55.4 C for 2.068 mg/mL of compound K, showing good agreement with the experimental value.</P>

        Genetic association of MYH genes with hereditary hearing loss in Korea

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>Myosin is a key protein involved in regulating the shape and motility of cells. The <I>MYH9</I> and <I>MYH14</I> genes, which encode non-muscle myosin heavy chain IIA (NMMHC II-A) and IIC (NMMHC II-C), respectively, are expressed in the inner ear. These myosin genes are known to be associated with autosomal dominant non-syndromic hearing loss (ADNSHL); however, genetic studies in patients with ADNSHL in Korea have rarely been reported.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>We analyzed the <I>MYH9</I> and <I>MYH14</I> genes in 75 Korean patients with ADNSHL.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>We identified 4 possible pathogenic variants: a novel variant p.F1303L and 2 previously reported variants (p.R1730C and p.R1785C) in the <I>MYH9</I> gene, and a novel variant p.A1868T in the <I>MYH14</I> gene. All the variants were located in the myosin tail domain, which is essential for the interaction of myosin with actin. These variants were predicted to be possibly pathogenic by functional prediction tools and were absent in 100 unrelated normal controls.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>These results suggest that all the variants identified in this study have a strong potential to affect the structural stability and/or function of non-muscle myosin in the inner ear, which might lead to ADNSHL. This study establishes the link between the genotype and development of ADNSHL and contributes to the establishment of Korean database for hereditary hearing loss.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We performed genetic analysis of <I>MYH</I> genes in Korean patients with ADNSHL. </LI> <LI> We found three and one possibly pathogenic variants in <I>MYH9</I> and <I>MYH14</I>, respectively. </LI> <LI> Our research will improve understanding of relations between MYH genes and ADNSHL. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Clinical outcomes of locking polymeric clip for laparoscopic appendectomy in patients with appendicitis: a retrospective comparison with loop ligature

        Purpose: This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) according to the method of appendiceal stump closure. Methods: Patients who underwent LA for appendicitis between 2010 and 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were classified into locking polymeric clip (LPC) and loop ligature (LL) groups. Clinical outcomes were compared between the groups. Results: LPC and LL were used in 188 (56.6%) and 144 patients (43.4%), respectively for appendiceal stump closure. No significant differences were observed in sex, age, comorbidities, and the severity of appendicitis between the groups. The median operative time was shorter in the LPC group than in the LL group (64.5 minutes vs. 71.5 minutes, P=0.027). The median hospital stay was longer in the LL group than in the LPC group (4 days vs. 3 days, P=0.020). Postoperative incidences of intraabdominal abscess and ileus were higher in the LL group than in the LPC group (4.2% vs. 1.1%, P=0.082 and 2.8% vs. 0%, P=0.035; respectively). The readmission rate was higher in the LL group than that in the LPC group (6.3% vs. 1.1%, P=0.012). Conclusion: Using LPC for appendiceal stump closure during LA for appendicitis was associated with lower postoperative complication rate, shorter operative time, and shorter hospital stay compared to the use of LL. Operative time above 60 minutes and the use of LL were identified as independent risk factors for postoperative complications in LA. Therefore, LPC could be considered a more favorable closure method than LL during LA for appendicitis.
