In this paper, we analyze the polio incidence data based on the Poisson autoregressive models, focusing particularly on change-point detection. Since the data include some strongly deviating observations, we employ the robust cumulative sum (CUSUM) test proposed by Kang and Song (2015) to perform the test for parameter change. Contrary to the result of Kang and Lee (2014), our data analysis indicates that there is no significant change in the case of the CUSUM test with strong robustness and the same result is obtained after ridding the polio data of outliers. We additionally consider the comparison of the forecasting performance. All the results demonstrate that the robust CUSUM test performs adequately in the presence of seemingly outliers.

A robust approach for testing parameter change in Poisson autoregressive models

Parameter change test has been an important issue in time series analysis. The problem has also been actively explored in the feld of integer-valued time series, but the testing in the presence of outliers has not yet been extensively investigated. This study considers the problem of testing for parameter change in Poisson autoregressive models particularly when observations are contaminated by outliers. To lessen the impact of outliers on testing procedure, we propose a test based on the density power divergence, which is introduced by Basu et al. (Biometrika 85:549–559, 1998), and derive its limiting null distribution. Monte Carlo simulation results demonstrate validity and strong robustness of the proposed test.

Membranes prepared from Bacillus cereus KCTC 3674, grown aerobically on a complex medium, oxidized NADH exclusively, whereas deamino-NADH was little oxidized. The respiratory chain-linked NADH oxidase system exhibited an apparent Km value of approximately 65 μM for NADH. On the other hand, the enzymatic properties of the NADH: menadione oxidoreductase of NADH oxidase system were examined. The maximum activity of NADH: menadione oxidoreductase was obtained at pH 9.5 in the presence of 0.1 M KCl (or NaCl). The NADH: menadione oxidoreductase activity was very resistant to the respiratory chain inhibitors such as rotenone, capsaicin, and AgNO₃. Interestingly, the activity was stimulated by the 2-heptyl-4-hydroxyquinoline-N-oxide (HQNO).

Abstract.

In this paper, we consider the problem of testing for a parameter change in a first-order random coefficient integer-valued autoregressive [RCINAR(1)] model. We employ the cumulative sum (CUSUM) test based on the conditional least-squares and modified quasi-likelihood estimators. It is shown that under regularity conditions, the CUSUM test has the same limiting distribution as the supremum of the squares of independent Brownian bridges. The CUSUM test is then applied to the analysis of the monthly polio counts data set.

Postoperative atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation (AARS) is a rare complication that develops almost exclusively in children following oropharyngeal and otologic surgeries, proposing that oropharyngeal inflammatory responses and excessive head rotation are responsible factors. However, there have been no reports of AARS after excision of a nevus on the head and neck. Here, we present two cases of AARS following limited head rotation during simple nevus excision. Patient 1, a 9-year-old girl, complained of neck pain and limited range of motion after excision of the nevus on the neck. After 2 months, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging finally revealed AARS with a ruptured transverse atlantal ligament. A month of halo traction was required for the treatment. Patient 2, an 11-year-old girl, presented with immediate pain and limited neck extension after tissue expander insertion under the upper chest and excision of the nevus on her left cheek. The diagnosis was promptly made using cervical spine radiography. A cervical collar was applied for 1 month. Both patients recovered without any complications after treatment. This report highlights the importance of suspicion for AARS after surgery regardless of surgical duration or amount of head rotation.
