        Expression of female sex hormone receptors and its relation to clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma

        Background: Adenocarcinoma (ADC) of the lung exhibits different clinicopathological characteristics in men and women. Recent studies have suggested that these differences originate from the expression of female sex hormone receptors in tumor cells. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of female sex hormone receptors in lung ADC and determine the expression patterns in patients with different clinicopathological characteristics. Methods: A total of 84 patients with lung ADC who underwent surgical resection and/or core biopsy were recruited for the present study. Immunohistochemical staining was performed for estrogen receptor α (ERα), estrogen receptor β (ERβ), progesterone receptor (PR), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), EGFR E746-A750 del, and EGFR L858R using tissue microarray. Results: A total of 39 (46.4%) ERα-positive, 71 (84.5%) ERβ-positive, and 46 (54.8%) PR-positive lung ADCs were identified. In addition, there were 81 (96.4%) EGFR-positive, 14 (16.7%) EGFR E746-A750 del–positive, and 34 (40.5%) EGFR L858R–positive cases. The expression of female sex hormone receptors was not significantly different in clinicopathologically different subsets of lung ADC. Conclusions: Expression of female sex hormone receptors is not associated with the prognosis and clinicopathological characteristics of patients with lung ADC.

      • 서울 잠실 지구의 도시화에 대한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to examine the urbanizing process of Jamsil district which prior to 1970 was a flooded island in Han river. The study divides into four themes as following: (1) the land use of a fluvial region, (2) analysis of the factors used to develop this region, (3) the urban patterns planned by the city government and (4) the effect on the other places near Jamsil district. The four periods of development are recognizable such as (1) the flooded region until 1970, (2) the construction of groups of apartments after 1970, (3) the development of the urban aspects since 1975, and (4) the establishment of new town in Seoul after 1980. Jamsil district is located in the south-eastern part of Seoul approximately 13 kilometers away from the city hall of Seoul. This district is considered the nodal point which affects the other places near it. The city government aimed at construction of large and numerous apartments for the first stage, the facilities for commuters for the second stage, and well-balanced development of the other places near this district for the third stage. This study is designed to analyze how this district was initiated as target area for urban development. In order to examine the growth process, three aspects of major phenomena are considerated : (1) increasing population in Seoul, (2) the relation between land price and spatial aspects, and (3) the lack of the residential houses. The population of Seoul has greatly increased since 1970. The city government needed a place where it could house many people. It was interested in how this district would be developed. The patterns of the urbanization of this district are as follows: (1) it has appeared as one of the largest groups of apartments in Korea, (2) it has considerably good facilities for the residential environment, (3) such recreation center as gymasium are well distributed in this district, (4) consequently, it will become a new town in Seoul. After the completion of urbanizing this district, it will have a close relation to Chunho region on the east side. It can be expected to be particularly influencial when the fifth subway plan (Chunho-Jamsil-Sungnam area) is finished. On the south side related to Sungnam city, the new town streets are able to extend along the fifth subway line which will be .constructed. On the west side, Jamsil district is combined to the axis of Youngdong region which is one of three nuclei areas (the central place which was established already, Youngdong-Jamsil region, Youngdeungpo region). On the north side being contacted with Hwayangdong, Jamsil district will have a rapid and convenient transportation with the perfection of the second subway October, 1980 and turn out to be a nodal place.

        Correlation of Lignan Contents with Protein and Oil Contentsin the Seeds of Sesamum indicum L.

        The contents of lignan, protein, and oil of nine Sesamum indicum cultivars were analyzed. To determine the lignan contents, sesamin 1 and sesamolin 2 were isolated from the ethylacetate extracts of the Suwon cultivar, and the structures were fully characterized by spectral and physical methods. The seeds of nine cultivars were screened for two lignans, which were determined by HPLC using a C18 reversed phase column coupled with a photodiode array detector. Suwon cultivar showed the highest concentration (1: 6.24±0.04 and 2: 3.58±0.01mg/g), whereas Soonheuk displayed the lowest (1: 0.91±0.01 and 2: 0.73±0.01 mg/g). The average content ratio of sesamin 1 (3.64mg/g) was significantly higher than that of sesamolin 2 (2.57 mg/g). The protein content ranged from 21.52±0.35 to 31.22±0.25%, Suwon containing the highest level and Soonheuk had the lowest. Kwangbaek showed the highest oil level (49.84±0.40%), while Soonheuk exhibited the lowest (42.52±0.05%). Sesamin 1 exhibited a stronger radical-scavenging activity in the ABTS (IC50: 63.2±2.4 μM) than its DPPH radical-scavenging activity (IC50>200 μM). These results lead to the conclusion that lignan content is affected by protein and oil contents. Concentration of the chemical components in the cultivars could be a key factor in the selection process of a high quality species.

        Proteolytic Enzyme 이 Pyrazinamide 의 흡수 , 배설에 미치는 영향

        This paper attempts to investigate the effect of proteolytic enzyme on the absorption and excretion of pyrazinamide. The rat small intestinal absorption of pyrazinamide in the presence of proteolytic enzyme such as chymotrypsin and compounding enzyme (chymotrypsin and trypsin) are increasingly absorbed, but in the trypsin are similar to that of control. Blood levels of pyrazinamide after rabbit's duodenum injection are significantly enhenced to correspond to 112-120% by proteolytic enzymes concentration respectively, but both on the high concentration of chymotrypsin and the low concentration of trypsin are insignificantly enhenced. Proteolytic enzymes do not give the effect on clearance of pyrazinamide. Proteolytic enzymes give the effect on absorption of pyrazinamide, but do not give the effect on excretion of pyrazinamide.

        시메티딘이 설프이소미딘의 약물동태에 미치는 영향

        These paper was attempted to investigate the mechanism of increased blood level of sulfisomidine by cimetidine pretreatment pharmacokinetically. Especially, effect of cimetidine pretreatment on both renal clearance and biliary clearance of sulfisomidine was studied in rabbits. The results are as follows. The blood level of sulfisomidine administered intravenously in dose of 25mg/kg was elevated significantly by cimetidine pretreatment. Relative bioavailability and biological half-life were increased significantly by cimetidine pretreatment. Overall elimination rate constant ($betha$) and distribution rate constant ($K_{13}$) of sulfisomidine were decreased significantly by cimetidine pretreatment. The renal and biliary clearance of sulfisomidine were decreased significantly compared with those of control rabbits by cimetidine pretreatment. The results may be also related to the inhibition of sulfisomidine metabolism enzyme activity or reduction of blood flow in the liver.

        Cefazolin Butyrolactone Ester의 합성 및 생물약제학적 연구

        A butyrolactone ester of cefazolin (CFZ-BTL) was synthesized by the esterification of cefazolin (CFZ) with $\alpha$-bromo-${\gamma}$-butyrolactone. The synthesis was confirmed by the spectroscopic analysis. The CFZ-BTL was more lipophilic than the CFZ when assessed by n-octanol/water partition coefficients at various pH. The CFZ-BTL itself did not show any antimicrobial activity in vitro, but after oral administration of CFZ-BTL to rabbits, exerted significant anti-microbial activity in serum samples when measured by the inhibion zone method in nutrient agar plates, due to conversion of CFZ-BTL to an active metabolite, probably CFZ, in the body. The CFZ-BTL was also converted into CFZ as confirmed by in vitro incubation study, with tissue homogenates (liver, blood and intestine) of rabbits. The liver showed the fastest conversion rate, probably via the hydrolysis mechanism. In vivo metabolism of CFZ-BTL to CFZ was also confirmed in vivo serum samples by HPLC. The oral bioavailability of CFZ-BTL in rabbits was 1.6-fold increased when compared to CFZ, resulting from followed by enhanced lipophilicity increased passive absorption in the intestine.

        Alkaloids from the Stem Bark of Phellodendron amurense Rupr

        Two isoquinolines and one quinolone were isolated from the stem bark of Pellodendron amurense Rupr. (Rutaceae). Two isoquinolines were elucidated as thalifoline (2) and pharmacological active berberine (3) has been blocking the release of $Ca^{2+}$ from internal stores. One quinolone was identified as N-methylatanine (1). This is the first report on the isolation of N-methylatanine (1) and thalifoline (2) from this plant. 운향과(Rutaceae)인 황백나무(Phellodendron nmurense Rupr.)의 줄기 점 질에서 2종의 isoquinoline 화합물과 1종의 quinolone 화합물을 분리하였다. Isoquinoline 화합물은 thalifoline (2)과 칼슘 방출을 저해하여 혈압조절에 관여하는 berberine (3)으로 구조동정 되었다. 또한 quinolone 화합물은 N-methylatanine (1)로 구조동정 되었다. 이들의 화합물 중에서 N-methylatanine (1)과 thalifoline (2)는 황백나무에서 처음으로 분리하였다.
