        Zoogloea ramigera 115와 Zoogloea ramigera 115SLR의 중금속 흡착능 비교

        Capsular polymer인 zooglan을 생산하는 Z. ramigera 115와 수용성 slime polymer 생산 변이주인 Z. ramigera 115SLR의 중금속 제거능을 비교하였다. 중금속 5종(Cd^2+, Co^2+, Cu^2+, Ni^2+, Fe^2+)의 최저 생장저해농도는 두 균주 모두 유사하였다. Cd^2+을 첨가하지 않은 경우에 비해 Cd^2+ 500 ppm을 첨가한 액체 배지에서의 생체량은 Z. ramigera 115는 24%, Z. ramigera 115SLR은 50%로 감소하였고 동일한 생체량에 대하여 Z. ramigera 115SLR이 Z. ramigera 115보다 Cd^2+을 1.5배 더 제거하였다. 세포와 polymer를 분리하여 중금속 흡착능을 비교한 결과 polymer가 세포보다 높은 흡착량을 나타냈으며 최저 중금속 흡착 pH는 7.5였다. Langmuir 흡착등온선과 Freundlich 흡착등온선을 분석한 결과 Cd^2+에 대하여 Z. ramigera 115SLR polymer는 Z. ramigera 115 및 이온 교환 수지보다 높은 최대흡착량과 흡착안정성을 보여서 흡착제로서 유용할 것으로 판단된다. Heavy metal removal by Z. ramigera 115 and soluble slime polymer producing mutant Z. ramigera 115SLR was investigated. Both strains showed similar tolerance against Cd^2+, Co^2+, Cu^2+, Ni^2+ and Fe^2+. When cells were cultivated in the presence of 500 ppm Cd^2+, the mutant strain removed 1.5 fold more metal than the wild type did at same biomass. Metal adsorption capacities were in the order of Z. ramigera 115SLR polymer>Z. ramigera 115 polymer>Z. ramigera 115 cell>Z. ramigera 115SLR cell. The optimum pH for metal adsorption was 7.5. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms indicated that Qmax and 1/n of Z. ramigera 115SLR polymer were 164.2 ㎎ Cd^2+/g dw and 0.496, respectively. These results showed that the polymer of Z. ramigera 115SLR could be used as an effective metal adsorbate

        C자형 투시장치와 자석을 이용한 안와내 이물제거 1예

        Purpose: We report a case of an intraorbital foreign body removed in a walk-in patient using a magnet under fluoroscopy. Methods: A patient walked into the eye clinic complaining of ocular pain caused by foreign body that pernetrated into his right lower eyelid while mowing the lawn one day before he came to the hospital. Since an orbital foreign body was observed when the patient entered the hospital, and a high-density metallic response was diagnosed within the orbit from a computerized tomogram, we performed an emergency operation to take out the foreign body within the orbit. Results: We removed the metallic foreign body, which was 5 mm in size and buried in the orbital fat, in an operation using a magnet under fluoroscopy. Conclusions: This study shows that fluoroscopy and magnets are an efficient operative means of removing foreign bodies that are found within the orbital fat layer and are difficult to access.

        Comparison of Triceps Surae EMG in Plantar Flexion Test of MMT at Different Knee Angles

        This study was conducted to examine changes in the muscle activity of the triceps surae, specifically the gastrocnemius and the soleus, depending on the angle of the knee joint during the manual muscle test (MMT) of the plantar flexion of the ankle. The muscle activity of the medial and lateral heads of the gastrocnemius was statistically significantly reduced when the angle of the knee joint was 15°, 30°, and 45° compared to when the angle was 0°. However, there was no statistically significant difference in muscle activity at the angles of 15° and 30° or 45°. There was no statistically significant difference in the muscle activity of the soleus depending on the angle of the knee joint. The ratio of the muscle activity of the soleus to that of the triceps surae showed a statistically significant increase when the angle was 15°, 30° and 45° compared to when the angle was 0°. However, there was no statistically significant difference in muscle activity at the angles of 15° and 30° or 45°. When the angle of the knee joint was 15° or higher during the test of the isolated soleus, the muscle activity of the gastrocnemius was reduced. These results indicate that the angle is suitable for the test of the isolated soleus, but there was no statistically significant difference in the muscle activity of the gastrocnemius when the angle was higher than 15°. Therefore, it can be concluded that the most suitable angle of the knee joint for the isolated MMT test of the soleus is 15°.

        Intrinsic Förster Resonance Energy Transfer Imaging Technique for Detection of Native Protein in Live Cells

        To detect a native target protein and its interaction with drugs in live cells, we developed an intrinsic fluorescence resonance energy transfer (iFRET) imaging technique (iFIT). The iFIT employs a target-specific fluorescent probe in combination with a deep UV biological microscope. The iFRET utilizes tryptophan residues of the target protein and a cell-permeable target-specific probe, which is selectively excited by the intrinsic tryptophan fluorescence (λem = 350 nm), as FRET donors and acceptors, respectively. As the Förster distance between the tryptophan residues and the iFIT probe is about 2 nm, an iFRET signal is generated by specific interaction of the target protein and the selective iFIT probe. A deep UV biological microscope equipped with a quartz objective and two optical filters (288 and 365 nm) on a shutter was constructed to facilitate the detection of the iFRET signal upon binding of the probe to its target, in live cells. We successfully achieved imaging of native streptavidin in live cells with the thus developed iFIT, after simple treatment of live cells with the corresponding iFIT probes.

        DOCA-Salt를 이용한 SHR의 복합질환 모델 구축

        There are two types of hypertension such as primary or essential hypertension (90%) and the secondary makes up the rest. Even though, many intracellular signaling molecules may contribute to the cardiac hypertrophy as primarily or secondary regulatory molecule in spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), it remains unknown whether establishment of complex hypertensive animal model using deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA) in SHR is possible or not. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate effect of the additional induction of hypertension using DOCA-salt in SHR. Strikingly, profound raised blood pressure were revealed in DOCA-WKY rat (71.5% vs. WKY) and DOCA-SHR (63.7% vs. SHR). Interestingly, the body weight as parameter following physiological growth were significantly decreased in DOCA-WKY rats (7.3% vs. WKY) as well as DOCA-SHR (6.9% vs. SHR). These results suggest that DOCA-SHR animal model might be available for investigation of incidental mechanisms between cardiogenic hereditary hypertension and secondary metabolic hypertension.

        내반슬을 가진 사람에게 탄력밴드와 런지 적용 시 Q각 및 근 활성도 비교

        The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of elastic band exercises and lunge on the knee Electromyography and Q-Angle in people with genu varum. The subjects of this study were healthy general people who had genu varum of 18 subjects. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups as a elastic band group (n=9, 6 males and 3 females, age: 22.55±2.05 years, height: 169.8±6.07 cm, weight: 66.44±9.83 kg) and a lunge group (n=9, 7 males and 2 females, age: 23.88±1.37 years, height: 173.66±6.72 cm, weight: 67.22±13.30 kg).The elastic band exercise and the lunge were performed every week, for four weeks. These results suggest that the Q-Angle of both knees showed differences before and after the intervention in elastic band group and lunge group. Also, The MVIC was no changes in both groups before and after the intervention except for the left foot in elastic band group and lunge group. As a result, the space distance of knees in both groups was significantly reduced. These result suggested that the elastic band exercise and lunge were effective ways in alleviating genu varum. 본 연구의 목적은 내반슬을 가진 사람에게 무릎의 근전도와 Q-Angle에 탄성 밴드 운동과 런지의 효과를 비교하는것이다. 연구대상자는 18명의 내반슬을 가진 평범하고 건강한 사람들로 이루어져 있다. 대상자는 탄력 밴드 그룹(인원=9, 남자6명과 여자3명, 나이 : 22.55±2.05 세, 신장 : 169.8±6.07 cm, 체중 : 66.44±9.83 kg)과 런지 그룹(인원=9, 남자 7명과 여자2명, 나이 : 23.88±1.37 세, 신장 : 173.66±6.72 cm, 체중 : 67.22±13.30 kg)으로 두 그룹으로 무작위로 나뉘었다. 탄력 밴드운동과 런지는 매주 4 주 동안 실시되었다. 양측 무릎의 Q각이 탄성 밴드 그룹과 런지 그룹에서 실험 전후에 차이를 보이는결과가 나타났다. 결론 : 결과적으로 두 군에서 두 무릎사이의 거리가 현저하게 감소되었다. 이러한 결과는 탄성 밴드 운동과런지가 내반슬 변형을 완화 시키는데 효과적인 방법임을 나타내었다.
