To assess the potential of Korean wild Chrysanthemum fl owers as cosmetic ingredients, this study evaluated the antioxidant, antimicrobial, and skin-whitening activities of extracts from Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum , C. zawadskii var. luci dum , C. zawadskii var. yezoense , and C. makinoi . Subsequently, HPLC analyses were conducted to characterize the phenolic compound contents of these extracts. The Korean wild Chrysanthemum fl owers exhibited strong antioxidant properties, as evidenced by in vitro radical scavenging activity assays. They also exhibited skin-whitening activity by inhibiting melanin contents in α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone-induced B16F10 cells. Notably, C. zawadskii var. lucidum displayed higher antioxidant activity due to its elevated fl avonoid content and potent radical scavenging activity compared to other wild Chry santhemum fl owers. Furthermore, C. makinoi exhibited strong in vitro tyrosinase inhibitory activity and reduced melanin contents in comparison to the other wild Chrysanthemum fl owers. Our fi ndings also confi rmed the antimicrobial activity of the wild Chrysanthemum fl ower extracts against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans . Additionally, our HPLC analyses revealed that C. zawadskii var. lucidum had signifi cantly higher contents of chlorogenic acid, linarin, 3,5-di- O -caff eoylquinic acid, and 4,5-di- O -caff eoylquinic acid. Therefore, Korean wild Chrysanthemum fl owers hold promise as functional cosmetic ingredients due to their antioxidant, antimicrobial, and skin-whitening eff ects, as well as their elevated levels of phenolic compounds.

Sung-Hoon Hong, as an Orgelbaumeister, has been making organs for over 20 years in Korea, a barren land of organ production. Regarding the production of musical instruments, while maintaining the philosophy that the appearance, which is the ‘sound to be seen’ and the tone, which is the ‘sound to be heard,’ give life to the instrument, he emphasized the harmony of space, appearance, and sound. In order to establish the basic sound that a Korean organ should have, along with an exterior design that can harmonize with the space where the organ will be installed, the characteristics of the Korean flute and French romantic organ sound were set as the basis. Rather than borrowing traditional instruments for a Korean sound, Sung-Hoon Hong is establishing the identity of a Korean organ by modifying and refining the organ’s unique tone to fit the Korean sentiment. In the end, by creating Korean sound such as ‘Hong flute’ and ‘PrincipalKorea’, that of the Korean organ is further specified. On the other hand, traditional patterns, colors, and surrounding scenery were creatively applied to the exterior decoration of the organ for the appearance, which is the visible sound. Considering the balance and harmony with the place where the instrument is installed, traditional beauty was realized through the shape and tone of the organ. Despite the many obstacles, it was the sense of calling to the profession that made the musical instrument production continue. The organ plays a role that matches the essence of the instrument, and the vocation to realize it as a genuine work of art with Korean beauty was the driving force that continued to make musical instruments. As such, Sung-Hoon Hong is writing the history of Korean organ production by continuing creative attempts and experiments for the realization of the Korean identity of the organ.

In this article, I will discuss how the Sanjo for Organ can be seen as a convergent element and its significance. This work was composed to realize Sanjo of Korean classical music with organ musical instrument. Sanjo has a characteristic that it develops dynamically without repeated melodies and pursues newness. In Sanjo for organ, there is Sanjo’s freedom beyond organ improvisation, and the theme melody is alternated to episode, and the unity and stability of structure are not lost. In particular, the third theme, which is expressed by organistic magnificence, became the center of the entire music, and the symmetrical theme melody and episode alternatingly maintained formal rigidity that could be lost due to free improvisation. Being the foundation of the entire music is a five-note mode from the Pyung- jo of the 12 Korean traditional scale. Relocating the notes of the Pyung-jo to obtain the fourth interval pitch, which is an essential ingredient of the melody and harmony of the organ Sanjo. In addition, modern sounds lead the entire music through bold use of chromatic and free rhythms and decorations. In other words, it can be said that Sanjo and organ toccata were reborn in modern language.

A key component in tissue engineering for bone regeneration is the scaffold that serves as a template for cell interaction and the formation of bone-extracellular matrix to provide structural support to the newly formed tissue. In this study, poly(L-Lactide-co-glicolide)(PLGA) scaffolds were prepared by solvent casting/salt-leaching, ice particle-leaching and gas-forming/salt-leaching. Cellular viability and proliferation were assayed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole- 2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium-bromide(MTT) test. Osteogenic differential cells were analyzed by ALP activity. Through RT-PCR analysis, we observed ALP and osteocalcin m RNA expression. Scaffold with BMSCs were implanted into the back of athymic nude mouse to observe in vivo behavior. Thin section were cut from paraffin embedded tissues and histological sections were stained by trichrome, immunohistochemical, von kossa staining. The cell proliferation and ALP activity of BMSCs in the scafoolds was the highest in the scaffolds using solvent casting/salt-leaching method. In RT-PCR results, in the all type of scaffolds observed specific gene expression of ALP, osteocalcin. By histological staining, we could observed collagen and calcification region in scaffolds by solvent casting/salt leaching method. Thus Solvent casting/salt-leaching method provided highly porous structure with good interconnections between each pores, which can support the surface of cell proliferation, differentiation. This result indicates that solvent casting/salt-leaching is useful for osteogenesis of BMSCs.

This paper describes the performance characteristics of flow and structure in the post-chamber and nozzle. Using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique, the stress and compressible flow fields in the downstream of the post chamber and nozzle were numerically calculated. Besides, the stress characteristics at the wall of post-chamber and nozzle were investigated under different thickness (2mm, 5mm and 10mm) of the nozzle wall. The stress pattern demonstrates that the strength of nozzle wall having 10mm is safer than that of 5mm or 2mm according to von Mises stress irrespective to the pressure field
