        겨우살이의 급여가 육계의 생산성 및 혈액 특성에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 한국산 참나무 겨우살이를 육계에 급여하였을 때 생산성 및 혈액 특성에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위해 실시하였다. 1일령 Ross 수평아리를 4처리 4반복, 반복당 30수씩 총 480수를 공시하였고, 실험 설계는 무항생제 사료, 항생제 첨가 사료, 겨우살이 0.5% 및 1.0% 처리구로 나누어 총 49일간 사육하였다. 실험 전 기간 처리구간에 사료 섭취량과 일당 증체량에 있어서는 유의차가 없었다. 실험 종료시 공장의 길이에 있어서 겨우살이 1.0% 처리구가 다른 처리구에 비해 증가하는 경향이나 유의하게 증가하였다(P<0.05). 실험 35일째, 맹장내 살모넬라 균수는 겨우살이를 급여함으로써 유의하게 감소하였다(P<0.05). 겨우살이 처리구에서는 대조구(+)에 비해 림프구와 단핵구의 수가 증가하는 경향 또는 유의하게 증가하였다(P<0.05). 따라서, 겨우살이의 사료 내 첨가급여는 육계에서 생산성 및 혈액 성상에 아무런 부정적인 영향을 미치지 않아 항생제 대체 물질로서의 이용 가능성이 있을 것으로 사료된다. The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of Korean mistletoe (KM) on performance and blood characteristics in broiler chickens. A total of four hundred eighty, 1-d-old male broiler chicks (Ross) were divided into 4 groups with 4 replicates of 30 birds each. The treatments were NC (antibiotics-free diet), PC (NC diet added antibiotics), 0.5% KM (NC diet added 0.5% of KM) and 1.0% KM (NC diet added 1.0% of KM), and the birds were raised for 49 days. There were no significant differences in feed intake and body weight gain among treatments. On d 49, the relative length of jejunum in 1.0% KM tended to be increased or significantly (P<0.05) increased compare to those of other groups. On d 35, the colony forming unit of Salmonella spp. of ceca significantly (P<0.05) decreased by feeding KM. The counts of lymphocyte of KM significantly (P<0.05) increased compare to those of the PC.

        도박으로 물든 스포츠 : 종합격투기의 윤리적 당위성

        오늘날 스포츠가 갖는 경제적 가치는 상상초월의 규모를 자랑하며, 그 영향력을 톡톡히 입증시키고 있다. 하지만 프로스포츠 경기가 점차 성행하면서 스포츠도박에 대한 윤리적 문제도 점점 확대되고 있는 것이 사실이다. 특히 종합격투기와 같은 이벤트성 스포츠 경기의 경우, 관중들이 스포츠 자체에 집중하기보다는 ‘스포츠’라는 그럴싸한 포장 안에서 노름 혹은 도박이라고 하는 행위를 즐기고 있으며, 이로 인해 선수들은 도박사들의 예상 속에서 돈을 따기 위한 하나의 수단적 도구로 변질되고 있다. 요컨대 스포츠가 지니고 있는 결과의 ‘불확실성’은 스포츠를 가장 흥미 있게 만드는 요소로 작용한다. 하지만 동시에 도박의 특징과도 매우 유사하다. 물론 프로스포츠가 영리를 추구한다는 점에서 아마추어스포츠와는 확연하게 구분되긴 하지만, 스포츠가 지니고 있는 본질적 가치와 개념적 해석에 있어 상이하지 않다는 것에 집중한다면 오늘날의 스포츠, 특히 종합격투기와 같은 사행성이 강한 종목을 스포츠맨십과 페어플레이를 최고의 가치로 여기는 순수한 ‘스포츠’로 볼 것인지, 아니면 단순히 사행성이 강한 오락의 하나로서 신체를 수단으로 하는 ‘도박’으로 볼 것인지 반드시 숙고해야 할 문제이다. Today, the economic value of sports is enormous and proves its influence. However, it is true that the ethical problem of sports betting is expanding gradually as the professional sport game is progressing gradually. Particularly in the case of event-based sports such as mixed martial arts, the crowd enjoys gambling or gambling in a reasonably packed package called 'sports', rather than concentrating on the sport itself. As a result, It is being transformed into one instrumental tool. In short, "uncertainty" of the result of the sport has become the most interesting factor in sports. But at the same time, it is very similar to gambling. Of course, professional sport is clearly distinguished from amateur sports in that it pursues profit-making, but focusing on the fact that it is not different in terms of the essential value and conceptual interpretation of the sport, today's sports, especially martial arts such as mixed martial arts Is to be viewed as a pure 'sport' that regards sportsmanship and fair play as the best value, or as a 'gambling' by means of the body as merely one of amusing entertainment.

        Nutrient Input from Submarine Groundwater Discharge versus Intermittent River-Water Discharge through an Artificial Dam in the Yeongsan River Estuary, Korea

        The Yeongsan River estuary (YRE) is located downstream of a dam housing an artificial lake on the southwestern coast of Korea. Intermittent discharges of lake water through dam gates control the water level of the lake. This study compares fluxes of dissolved nutrients in discharged water with those of submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) occurring in the YRE in July and October 2008. With the exception of dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) which limits primary production, nutrient concentrations in the YRE are controlled mainly by conservative mixing between lake water and open ocean water during periods of lake water discharge. In comparison with lake water discharge, the magnitude of SGD, based on a 222Rn mass balance model, is relatively small (about 1.5×105 m3 day-1 in July and about 30% higher in October) and dependent on the water elevation in the lake. However, SGD contributes considerably to the input of DIP when discharge of lake water is halted. Our study shows that SGD is more important in the delivery of biogeochemical components into estuaries that are obstructed by artificial dams.

        Histomorphological Changes of Mouse Tooth Germs by Antisense Inhibition of Krox-25 are Similar to the Deranged Proliferation of Odontogenic Tumors

        Krox-25, a Kruppel type zinc finger protein, may play an important role for the morphogenesis of tooth in ectomesenchymal interaction between enamel epithelium and odontogenic mesenchyme. The interrupted expression of Krox-25 by antisense inhibition is supposed to affect the abnormal development of tooth germ similar to the deranged proliferation of odontogenic tumors. This study was performed to know the histomorphogenetic effect of Krox-25 antisense inhibition in tooth germs of mouse embryos and to understand the abnormal expressions of Krox-25 in different odontogenic tumors which proliferate in aberrant direction of ecto-mesenchymal interaction. Total 95 tooth germs obtained from pregnant mice in the 13th day of fertilization were cultured with antisense oligonucleotides targeting mouse Krox-25 gene, and their histological patterns were compared with those of different odontogenic tumors, i.e., ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (n=5), ameloblastoma (n=8), and ameloblastic carcinoma (n=2). Resultantly, the cultured tooth germs treated with antisense oligodeoxynucleotides produced primitive dentine and enamel by odontoblasts and ameloblasts, respectively, but they aberrantly grew and formed abnormal tooth organs. Especially, the harmonious growth of enamel and dentine formation was greatly deranged by the antisense inhibition in the organ culture system. These findings were much similar to the abnormal growth of odontogenic tumors. The relatively well differentiated enamel epithelium of ameloblastic fibro-odontoma showed irregularly strong reaction of Krox-25, while the poorly differentiated enamel epithelium of ameloblastic carcinoma showed weak reaction. These data suggest that Krox-25 may play important roles for the histomorphogenesis of tooth germ by signaling the ecto-mesenchymal interaction between odontoblasts and ameloblasts in normal tooth germ development of mouse embryos as well as in cytodifferentiation of odontogenic tumors.

        약용 식물 가공 부산물의 첨가가 산란계의 생산성 및 난질에 미치는 영향

        This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of medicinal plant by-products on productivity and egg quality in laying hens. A total of five hundred sixty laying hens was randomly distributed into 7 treatments with 4 replicates of 20 birds per replicate and fed corn-soy based experimental diets containing 1.5% and 3.0% by-products of Cordyceps militaris, Artemisia capillaris and Curcuma aromatica S., respectively for 12 weeks. Egg production was not significantly different among treatments. Haugh unit was significantly increased in all treatments compared to control(p<0.05). There was no difference among the treatments in egg shell breaking strength, shell thickness, and yolk color. In conclusion, three medicinal by-products used in this experiment did not affect feed intake, egg production and showed positive effect on Haugh unit when they used 1.5~3.0% of feed. 본 실험은 약용 식물 가공 부산물의 산란계에 대한 급여효과를 시험하기 위해 수행되었다. 95주령의 산란계 560수를 7처리 4반복으로 반복당 20수씩 배치하여 12주간 사육하면서 동충하초, 인진쑥, 울금 가공 부산물을 각각 1.5%, 3.0%를 사료에 혼합 급여하였다. 산란율은 전 기간에 걸쳐 처리구간에 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았으며, 사료 섭취량과 평균 난중도 영향을 받지 않았다. 난각 두께, 난각 강도, 난각색, 난황색에 있어서도 역시 처리구간 유의차가 나타나지 않았으나, Haugh unit에 있어서는 대조구에 비해 모든 약용식물 처리구에서 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.05). 실험 결과를 종합할 때, 동충하초, 인진쑥, 울금 가공 부산물을 산란계 사료 내 1.5~3.0% 첨가 급여시 사료 섭취량, 산란율에는 영향을 미치지 않았으며, Haugh unit에 있어서 유의적으로 향상되는 결과를 나타내어 고품질 계란 생산 및 약용식물 가공 부산물의 사료 자원화 가능성을 보여주었다.

        Effects of Egg White Consumption on Immune Modulation in a Mouse Model of Trimellitic Anhydride-induced Allergy

        Egg allergy has been shown to be the most common food allergy in children with atopic dermatitis. Allergic reactions to proteins derived from egg white (EW) are more common than those derived from egg yolk. Ovomucoid, ovalbumin, ovotransferrin, and lyso- zyme have been identified as major allergens in EW. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of EW on immune modulation in an induced allergy mouse model. A total of 50 five-week-old BALB/c male mice were treated with trimellitic anhydride (TMA) for three weeks to induce allergy-like symptoms. The TMA-treated mice were rested for one week and then divided into five groups and fed 0, 10, 50, and 100 mg/d EW for four weeks. All EW consumption groups showed no significant increase or decrease in the populations of white blood cells; however, a significant increase in B-lymphocyte activity was observed in the fourth week. Furthermore, EW con- sumption did not influence serum immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin E levels. Taken together, these data demonstrate that the con- sumption of EW by TMA-treated mice did not increase allergic parameters such as serum IgE level, but enhanced the lymphocyte activities against pathogens. Therefore, this study suggests that the consumption of EW promotes Th2 immune modulation, and EW could be an excellent candidate for maintaining health.

        Energy Metabolism and Protein Utilization in Chicken- A Review

        Evaluation of energy in the diet is very important in animal nutrition because food intake is strongly influenced by the energy content of the diet. This means that the intake of other nutrients, such as amino acids, is affected by their ratio to energy content. Poultry can control their energy intake over a range of energy: protein ratios. Energy: protein ratio also affects the growth and body composition. Therefore we need to know what extent the relationship between energy and dietary protein influences the bird’s performance. To predict the energy value of the diet or its chemical constituents, researchers have been working on modelling using the equations of the major biochemical pathways in terms of ATP generation and utilization. The activity of feeding and the metabolism caused by digestion and assimilation of food increase the animal’s heat production and it can be measured by calorimetry technique. Theoretically, surplus amino acids which are not needed for protein synthesis stimulate an additional increase in metabolic rate and lead to increased energetic costs of catabolism and excretion. However, it has sometimes been shown that there was no measurable diet-induced thermoregulatory effect when an imbalanced amino acid mixture was fed. All these aspects are discussed in this review.
