        The authors had collected one-year-old stems of the persimmon tree from Jan. to Feb., 1995 and tested cold tolerance at various tempertures and locations. The materials for the experiment were Sagok native persimmon cultivated in Sagok, Kyungpook province, Chungdo native persimmon cultivated in Chungdo, Kyungpook province and Fuyu persimmon cultivated in Kimhae, Kyungnam province. The results are as follows : 1. In visual test, bud browning was deepended at lower temperature in 3 persimmon cultivars. It was deeper in Feb. than in Jan. Buds of Fuyu and Chungdo native persimmon were stronger in tolerance at low temparature than Sagok native persimmon. 2. Cold tolerance of bark was weaker in Feb. than in Jan. The injury at low temperature was deeper in 1-year-old stems of Fuyu than those of other persimmons. The bud was stronger than the bark in Fuyu in cold tolerance. 3. The eletric conductivity was higher in decreasing order in Fuyu, Sagok, Chungdo native persimmons. 4. Bud bursting rate was lower in Feb. than in Jan. and the rate was under 50% at the temperature below -10℃ Fuyu was higher in injury at low temperature than the other persimmons.

      • Multi-scale pore generation from controlled phase inversion: application to separators for Li-ion batteries

        Phase inversion based porous film is a promising candidate for alternative of commercialized PE separator due to its cheap production cost and high thermal stability. However, the difficulty of pore size controlling cause fast capacity fade and poor charge/discharge rate performances. We demonstrate a novel and simple approach to fabrcate a new separator with multi-scale pore structures for lithium-ion battery. Two different phase inversion behaviors in PVdF-HFP/good solvent/bad solvent mixture solution is able to generate the multi-scale pore structures on macroporous non-woven substrate. The multi-scale pore structure from controlled phase inversion play a crucial role in improving aforementioned drawbacks of the phase inversion based porous separators for lithium ion battery.

        The impact of endotrophin on the progression of chronic liver disease

        Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common liver disease and can lead to multiple complications, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The fibrotic liver is characterized by the pathological accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. Type VI collagen alpha3 (Col6a3) is a biomarker of hepatic fibrosis, and its cleaved form, endotrophin (ETP), plays a critical role in adipose tissue dysfunction, insulin resistance, and breast cancer development. Here, we studied the effects of the Col6a3-derived peptide ETP on the progression of chronic liver diseases, such as NASH and liver cancer. We used a doxycycline (Dox)-inducible liver-specific ETP-overexpressing mouse model on a NAFLD-prone (liver-specific SREBP1a transgenic) background. For this, we evaluated the consequences of local ETP expression in the liver and its effect on hepatic inflammation, fibrosis, and insulin resistance. Accumulation of ETP in the liver induced hepatic inflammation and the development of fibrosis with associated insulin resistance. Surprisingly, ETP overexpression also led to the emergence of liver cancer within 10 months in the SREBP1a transgenic background. Our data revealed that ETP can act as a “second hit” during the progression of NAFLD and can play an important role in the development of NASH and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). These observations firmly link elevated levels of ETP to chronic liver disease.

        부영양화 수역에서의 Cyanophage 의 분리와 동정

        경기도 의왕시에 위치한 백운 저수지에서 분리된 cyanobacteria 인 Synechococcus sp. 로부터 한 종의 cyanophage 를 분리하여 ultrafiltration, differential centrifugation 과 sucrose density gradient centrifugation 을 이용하여 정제하였다. 분리된 cynophage 는 transmission electron microscope (TEM) 를 이용하여 100,000 배로 관찰한 결과 직경이 89 nm인 isometric head 와 tail 의 전체 길이가 111 nm 의 contractile tail 을 가진 phage 로서 Myoviridae 에 속함을 알 수 있었다. 생화학적 특징으로는 20~$40^{\circ}C$ 와 pH 5-10에서 50% 이상의 안정성을 유지하며 $30^{\circ}C$ 와 pH 9 에서 최고의 infectivity 를 나타내었다. Synechococcus sp. cyanophage was isolated from Baekwoon reservoir located in KyonggiDo. The cyanophage was purified by employing ultrafiltration. differential centrifugation. and sucrose density gradient centrifugation. Electron microscopic observation indicated that the sizes of its isometric head and contractile tail are 89 nm and] II nm. respectively. which means that the isolated cyanophage is included in the group. Myoviridae. The cyanophage maintained the stability of more than 50 percent from $20^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$ and from pH 5 to 8. and had the maximal infectivity at $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 9 implying its ecological significance.

        Synechococcus sp.의 광합성이 Cyanophage 증식에 미치는 영향

        Synechococcus sp.의 cyanophage는 early, late viral function 모두 빛을 필요로 하는 것으로 나타났으며 증식 초기 2시간 동안 암처리한 경우 200%의 burst size를 나타내었다. Dark 상태에서의 Synechococcus sp.의 cyanophage증식은 대조군에 비해 11%의 burst size를 나타내었다. 광합성 억제제인 DCMU를 $10^{-6}$M로 처리했을 때 virus yield가 2%로 감소했으며 $10^{-4}$M의 CCCP는 cyanophage의 증식을 거의 중지시켰다. 또한 이러한 숙주세포의 광합성 의존도는 LPP-1, N-1과 AS-1보다는 크나 SM-1보다는 작은 것으로 나타났다. Light appears to be needed in the early and late function of the cyanophage of Synechococcus sp. and dark treatment during the first 2 hr of the replication cycle increased the virus yield to 200%. The burst size of the cyanophage multiplied in Synechococcus sp. in dark was 11% of that of control. The viral multiplication was reduced 2% in the presence of photosynthetic inhibitor, DCMU of $10^{-6}$ M, and nearly blocked in $10^{-4}$ M CCCP. These data suggested that the photosynthetic dependence of the cyanophage is greater than those of LPP-1 and AS-1, and smaller than SM-1.

      • 청소년들의 인터넷 중독과 사이버섹스 중독실태 연구

        The purpose of this study was to investigate actual conditions of internet addiction and cyber-sexual addiction among adolescents. To achieve it, first, the researcher intended to examine the meanings of internet addiction and cyber-sexual addiction in the literature, and to look into the state of adolescents who experienced to contact with obscene materials on/off line. Second, the researcher attempted to explore the two addictions centering around adolescents through IAT(Internet Addiction Test) and CAI(Cyber-sexual Addiction Index) devised by Kimberly S. Young. Data were collected from 1429 adolescents(821 males and 608 females). The study results were as follows; 1) 28.8% of the total respondents were experiencing internet addiction(1.9% with heavy addiction; 26.9% with mild addiction). 2) 5.7% of the respondents were cyber-sexual addicts(severe addicts were 1.5%; moderate 2.4%; mild 5.7%). Expecially, around 8.2% of the respondents who experienced to have contact with obscene materials were cyber-sexual addicts. 3) Most of the internet and cyber-sexual addicts tended to be more dependent on the internet with a tendency of disorder and compulsion than non-addicts. 4) At all the IAT index levels, the males scored higher than females. The gap between them in cyber-sexual addiction was about twice. 5) The internet addicts used the internet longer than non-addicts. The group with cyber-sexual addiction showed the same tendency.

        회전성 진동 손잡이를 이용한 수정체유화술의 수정체유화시간에 대한 비교

        Purpose: To compare the phacoemulsification time used in an adjunctive oscillation device and a conventional ultrasound phacomachine. Methods: Thirty eyes had phacoemulsification with a NeoSoniX? (Alcon Infiniti phacoemulsification system, Alcon, TX, U.S.A.) tip, and 30 eyes had phacoemulsification with a conventional ultrasound tip. Using the Scheimpflug camera (EAS-1000, Nidek, Japan), densities of the lens were measured in the eye of each patient in both groups preoperatively. The setting of parameters for phacoemulsification in both groups was identical. The power was 19% and the vacuum setting was 180 mmHg. A pulse rate of 40 pulses per second was used. For the cataract surgery with NeoSoniX?, the setting of the oscillation angle was fixed to 100% (4 degrees). After cataract extraction, the phacoemulsification time was recorded. Results: The mean phacoemulsification time was 28.50±12.40 seconds in the NeoSoniX? group and 49.87±45.55 seconds in the conventional group. The reduced phacoemulsification time was statistically significant (p<0.05) in the NeoSoniX? group. Conclusions: There was a statistically significant difference of phacoemulsification time between the NeoSoniX? and conventional phacoemulsification groups. Therefore, NeoSoniX? may contribute to a reduction in phacoemulsification time in all applications and can be an effective adjunctive device in a conventional phacomachine.
