인터넷 건강정보 소비자의 정보선택기준 및 정보이용행태 조사

        김후정,박현애 대한의료정보학회 2004 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.10 No.1

This study was conducted to investigate selection criteria of health information and utilization pattern of health information on the Web by the consumers. Data were collected through off-line and on-line surveys. The off-line survey was conducted with 64 white color office workers in seven companies. The on-line survey was conducted on JoongAng Ilbo 'Healthcare' and KIHASA 'Healthguide' Web sites and 216 participated in the survey. To compare the selection criteria of the consumers with that of health informatics experts, an e-mail survey was done with twenty-six health informatics experts. Selection criteria of health information rated by consumers were in order of accuracy of content, scope and depth of content, privacy and confidentiality, and readability. Experts ranked in order of accuracy of content, purpose of sites, scope and depth of content, and readability. Seventy eight percent of consumers used the Internet once a month to search health information, 60.4% visited health-related Web sites via Internet search. The majority (85%) visited 2-5 different Web sites when they searched for health information. Eighty three percent of consumers regarded the health information on Internet as reliable. Ninety percent of consumers said that the health information on Internet was useful. Consumers used the Internet 'to find disease-related information' (86.1%), 'to find information on exercise and nutrition' (77.9%), 'to get an on-line advice' (42.5%), and 'to buy products or medicine for health' (18.9%). The results of the present study suggested what the health informatics experts should consider when they provide health information on the Internet and what consumers demand when they filter quality health information.

Dietary and herbal supplements for fatigue: A quality assessment of online consumer health information

        Jeremy Y. Ng,Catherine Jiayi Zhang,Saad Ahmed 한국한의학연구원 2021 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.10 No.4

Background The Internet is increasingly utilized by patients to acquire information about dietary and herbal supplements (DHSs). Previously published studies assessing the quality of websites providing consumer health information about DHSs have been found to contain inaccuracies and misinformation that may compromise patient safety.. The present study assessed the quality of online DHSs consumer health information for fatigue. Methods Six unique search terms were searched on Google, each relating to fatigue and DHSs, across four countries. Across 480 websites identified, 48 were deemed eligible and were quality assessed using the DISCERN instrument, a standardized index of the quality of consumer health information. Results Across 48 eligible websites, the mean summed score was 47.64 (SD = 10.38) and the mean overall rating was 3.06 (SD = 0.90). Commercial sites were the most numerous in quantity, but contained information of the poorest quality. In general, websites lacked discussion surrounding uncertainty of information, describing what would happen if no treatment was used, and how treatment choices affect overall quality of life. Conclusion Physicians and other healthcare professionals should be aware of the high variability in the quality of online information regarding the use of DHSs for fatigue and facilitate open communication with patients to guide them towards reliable online sources. 건강정보 접근방법별 소비자 평가 결과 비교

        장혜정,심재선,김윤 대한의료정보학회 2005 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.11 No.2

Objective: Each consumer uses different consumer evaluation by sources of health information, considering the influences of consumers' socio-demographic characteristics, health status, attitude to health, and types of health information needed. Methods: Sources of health information include web-based resources, health professionals, and publications such as medical books, magazines, newspapers, etc. Data were collected from 1,189 respondents through a telephone survey, among whom 513(43%) responses were finally included in the analysis. The results were analysed by statistical methods including Chi-square, multiple regression, and correlation analyses. Results: Key findings are as follows. First, there were significant differences in evaluation results by different sources of health information. Access to health professionals shows positive outcomes in general, followed by web-based resource. Second, the significant factors related to the access outcomes were different in each domains such as easiness, amount, understanding, reliability, and helpfulness. In addition, while access to health professionals was found to have significant influence on health behavior by improving the ability of health management, access to internet improved only the understanding of health information. Conclusion: Access to health professionals for health information was positively related to utilization outcomes in general, but access to publications was negatively related to outcomes. Despite the increase in the number of web-based users, they could not rely on the information they found. To effectively utilize various sources of health information and improve the nation's health by providing appropriate health information, quality assurance strategy for contents in health information websites and active intervention by health professionals should be pursued.

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the quality of health information on the internet using DISCERN. Methods: Breast cancer, asthma, depression, obesity were selected to be the tracer conditions of the health information. To collect information about these 4 tracer conditions, we first select top 9 popular Korean websites which provide health information in January 2004. Nine websites include 6 commercial, 3 hospital. To compare quality of internet health information provided by Korean public institute and other countries', we select Healthguide in Korea, MEDLINEplus in USA and NHS direct online in UK. Overall, a total of 45 heath information provided by 10 Korean, 2 other countries' websites were evaluated by two nurses independently using DISCERN. DISCERN is a heath information quality assessment instrument consists of sixteen five-point- scale item questionnaire. The score was compared between Korean commercial and hospital websites and between Korean public institute's website and those of USA and UK. Results: Korean internet health information scored 2.0 for overall quality score. Internet health information of commercial websites scored 1.8 for overall quality score that was lower than hospital websites(2.4). Internet health information provided by Korean public institute scored 3.0 compared 3.3(MEDLINEplus) and 3.8(NHS direct online). Conclusion: Internet health information in Korea hardly meets DISCERN standard that means Korean health information have a problem in quality. Especially, Internet health information of commercial websites needs relatively urgent improvement in quality. (Journal of Korean Society of Medical Informatics 11-3,235-246, 2005)

        국가건강정보포털의 의미와 역할

        안지현,임인석 대한의사협회 2011 대한의사협회지 Vol.54 No.9

The National Health Information Portal (http://health.mw.go.kr), a collaborative project by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences, was officially launched in January 2011. In the modern society, the internet and smart phones have been flooded with health information, in addition to the information available through traditional media such as newspapers, television, and radio broadcasting. The Korean Medical Association and the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences have expanded their work in several directions, including a monitoring project to correct wrong health information that is commonly used. Nevertheless, they are confronted with the fundamental problem that they are unable to keep up with the speed of production and diffusion of health information in modern society. This initiative of the National Health Information Portal led by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences is significant in that anyone with internet access can easily find proven health information. Unlike existing health information, the National Health Information Portal is structured to help improve understanding by presenting a variety of materials, such as cartoons, pictures, photos, and videos, as compared to simple documents or texts. In addition, it is constructed with a feedback system so that the consumer of the health information can directly and easily access specific content. Furthermore, the National Health Information Portal continues to strive to provide practical contents with mobile services like smart phone applications. We expect the National Health Information Portal to make a contribution to the prevention and treatment of disease by reducing unnecessary medical expenditures, and providing quality health information to society.

        Song, Hayeon,Omori, Kikuko,Kim, Jihyun,Tenzek, Kelly E,Hawkins, Jennifer Morey,Lin, Wan-Ying,Kim, Yong-Chan,Jung, Joo-Young JMIR Publications Inc. 2016 Journal of medical Internet research Vol.18 No.3

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>The Internet has increasingly become a popular source of health information by connecting individuals with health content, experts, and support. More and more, individuals turn to social media and Internet sites to share health information and experiences. Although online health information seeking occurs worldwide, limited empirical studies exist examining cross-cultural differences in perceptions about user-generated, experience-based information compared to expertise-based information sources.</P><P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To investigate if cultural variations exist in patterns of online health information seeking, specifically in perceptions of online health information sources. It was hypothesized that Koreans and Hongkongers, compared to Americans, would be more likely to trust and use experience-based knowledge shared in social Internet sites, such as social media and online support groups. Conversely, Americans, compared to Koreans and Hongkongers, would value expertise-based knowledge prepared and approved by doctors or professional health providers more.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Survey questionnaires were developed in English first and then translated into Korean and Chinese. The back-translation method ensured the standardization of questions. Surveys were administered using a standardized recruitment strategy and data collection methods.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>A total of 826 participants living in metropolitan areas from the United States (n=301), Korea (n=179), and Hong Kong (n=337) participated in the study. We found significant cultural differences in information processing preferences for online health information. A planned contrast test revealed that Koreans and Hongkongers showed more trust in experience-based health information sources (blogs: <I>t</I>451.50=11.21, <I>P</I><.001; online support group: <I>t</I>455.71=9.30, <I>P</I><.001; social networking sites [SNS]: <I>t</I>466.75=11.36, <I>P</I><.001) and also reported using blogs (<I>t</I>515.31=6.67, <I>P</I><.001) and SNS (<I>t</I>529.22=4.51, <I>P</I><.001) more frequently than Americans. Americans showed a stronger preference for using expertise-based information sources (eg, WebMD and CDC) compared to Koreans and Hongkongers (<I>t</I>360.02=3.01, <I>P</I>=.003). Trust in expertise-based information sources was universal, demonstrating no cultural differences (Brown-Forsythe <I>F</I>2,654=1.82, <I>P</I>=.16). Culture also contributed significantly to differences in searching information on behalf of family members (<I>t</I>480.38=5.99, <I>P</I><.001) as well as to the goals of information searching.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>This research found significant cultural differences in information processing preferences for online health information. Further discussion is included regarding effective communication strategies in providing quality health information.</P>
