Vol.0 No.26
This report discusses the iconicity, that is to say in what respect are there similarities between the ideas of Jeju island’s people and the characteristics of ‘Naewattang painting of Shaman God’. This opinion presupposes that ‘Naewattang painting of Shaman God’ is the iconic sign reflecting the ideas of Jeju island’s people or painters who drew this painting about Shaman God[Dangsin(堂神)] of Jeju island. I think that we have to take note of Dangsin bonpuri(堂神본풀이) among Jeju shamanism to understand the context of creating ‘Naewattang painting of Shaman God’. The described god must be imagificated[imagined] into the ideas of people who have faith in Shaman God and ‘Naewattang painting of Shaman God’ is the visual expression of the ideas. When the object of god is converted from the language to the painting, there occurs a distinctive change of structure. It assumes like the characteristics of symbol-index of demonstrative pronoun. In this sense, the concept of ‘shifter’ is very important. Shifter is the operator which make the referent have same symbol while the message depends on structure. When the image of god expressed by painting makes another code by the shifter, the grotesque shown in Naewattang painting of Shaman God is related to the ecological property of Jeju shamanism. We can infer the characteristics of Jeju shamanism embracing totemism and animism meaning worships of sacred nature through the bodies of gods reflecting the shapes of irregular natural objects.

Effect of Base Station-Sleeping Ratio on Energy Efficiency in Densely Deployed Femtocell Networks
Juhee Kim,Wha Sook Jeon,Dong Geun Jeong IEEE 2015 IEEE communications letters Vol.19 No.4

In this paper, we focus on energy efficiency (EE) in densely deployed femtocell networks where a large number of open-access femto base stations (BSs) are deployed in a public hotspot area such as airport, shopping mall, etc. In such areas, femto BSs are underutilized during most of the operation time because they are deployed to support the peak traffic load. Thus, if we can put some of the femto BSs to sleep, the EE, which is defined as the ratio of throughput to power consumption, can be enhanced. In this paper, the effect of the femto BS-sleeping ratio on the EE is quantitatively studied by using a stochastic geometry-based model and the optimal femto BS-sleeping ratio to maximize the EE is obtained by considering both the network traffic load and the location of the designated femtocell deployment area. The optimal femto BS-sleeping ratio can be effectively used to design an energy-efficient BS-sleeping strategy for the densely deployed femtocell networks.

Base-Station Sleep Management in Open-Access Femtocell Networks
Juhee Kim,Wha Sook Jeon,Dong Geun Jeong IEEE 2016 IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology VT Vol.65 No.5

In this paper, we focus on enhancing the energy efficiency in open-access femtocell networks where many femto base stations (BSs) are deployed in a large public area such as airports, shopping malls, etc. In those areas, the femtocells are overlapped and underutilized during most of the operation time because femto BSs are densely deployed to support the peak traffic load. Therefore, if we properly coordinate the user association (UA) with BSs and put the femto BSs having no associated users to sleep, the energy consumption can be saved remarkably. In this paper, we propose a scheme that jointly decides the operation modes (e.g., active or sleep) of femto BSs and the association between users and the active BSs to minimize the energy consumption in the network. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly reduce the total energy consumption in the open-access femtocell networks.
