        A study has been conducted for the coagulation characteristics of suspended solids made up of kaolin using Al-based inorganic polymeric coagulants; PACS(Poly Aluminium Chloride silicate) and PASS (Poly Aluminium Silicate Sulfate). PACS was found to be superior to PASS in its coagulating ability almost two times as much. The variation of ζ-potential of suspended particles in the sign and magnitude was closely related to the turbidity removed behavior. For the application of two coagulant mixtures, the overall coagulating power was a function of the mixing ratio and, in case of sequential dosage of two coagulants, the entire coagulation feature was governed by the firstly dosed coagulant. When a same amount of coagulant was dosed in partition to the supernatant water of one time treated wastewater, the final turbidity of two time treated supernatant water showed a lower value compared with the case that all amount of coagulant was dosed at one time. The size of coagulum formed using PACS was larger than that using PASS and it was thought that the coagulum size was determined by the coagulating power of coagulant. Slow mixing time and rate were considered to be influential on the degree of turbidity removal, but not on the ζ-potential of particles. An appropriate temperature range was established for a better turbidity removal and beyond this range the turbidity increased as the temperature rised.

      • 점막 점착성 고분자 재료에 관한 연구

        A new mucoadhesive polymer was prepared by template polymerization of acrylic acid in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG). FTIR results indicated that a polymer complex was formed between poly(acrylic acid)(PAA) and PEG through hydrogen bonding. The hydrogen bonding in the PAA/PEG polymer complex was stronger than that in the PAA/PEG blend, and became stronger as the molecular weight of PEG increased. Glass transition temperatures(Tg) of PAA in the PAA/PEG polymer complexes was shifted to a lower temperature than that of PAA in the PAA/PEG blend. However, they tended to become higher as the molecular weight of PEG increased. The dissolution rate of the PAA/PEG polymer complex was much slower than the PAA/PEG blend, and was dependent on pH and molecular weight of the PEG. The mucoadhesive force of the PAA/PEG polymer complexes was stronger than for the PAA/PEG blend or a commercial product, Carbopol 971PNF.

      • 단백질흡착을 막는 소프트콘택트렌즈에 관한 연구

        양말단에 이크릴레이트를 갖는 폴리에틸렌글리콜 미크로마(PEG macromer)와 또한 PEG macromer와 폴리하이드록시에칠메타아크릴레이트[P(HEMA)] 혹은 폴리(하이드록시에칠메타아크릴레이트-하이드록시프로메타아크릴레이트-비닐피롤리돈)[P(HEMA-co-HPMA-co-NVP)]와 상호침투된 망상구조의 시료가 소프트콘텍트렌즈의 알부민의 흡착을 막기위하여 제조되었다. PEG macromer의 중합으로 macromer의 다관능성기로 인하여 가교된 겔이 형성되었다. P(HEMA-co-HPMA-co-NVP)/PEG IPN계 콘텍트렌즈에서 PEG분자량이 중가할수록 알부민의 흡착량은 감소되었다. 또한 IPN제조시의 PEG의 농도가 짙을수록 알부민의 흡착량은 감소되었다. PEG macromer와 IPN하기전의 P(HEMA)계 및 P(HEMA-co-HPMA-co-NVP)계의 콘텍트렌즈에 비하여 PEG macromer와 IPN함으로서 렌즈의 착용감이 훨씬 상승되었다. Poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) macromers terminated with diacrylate groups and interpenetrating polymer networks(IPN) composed of poly(hydrowyethyl methacrylate)(PHEMA) or poly(hydrowyethyl methacrylate-co-hydroxypropyl methacrylate-co-N-vinyl pyrrolidone)[P(HEMA-co-HPMA-co-NVP)]and PEG macromer were synthesized with the aim of abtaining protein adsorption resistant soft contact lens. Polymerization of PEG macromer. Crosslinked p(HEMA)or P(HEMA-co-HPMA-co-NVP) chains were interpenetrated into the cross-linked three-dimensional networks of PEG. It was found that albumin adsorption onto the contact lens prepared by P(HEMA-co-HPMA-co-NVP)/PEG IPN decreases with an increase of molecular weight of PEG. Also, it was found that albumin adsorption onto the both contact lens decreases with an increase of concentration of PEG macromer in the IPN preparation. There are also more adequate in the biointerness for the contact lens by P(HEMA)/PEG IPN or P(HEMA-co-HPMA-co-NVP)/PEG IPN than that by P(HEMA) or P(HEMA-co-HPMA-co-NVP).

      • 상부 조기 위암 환자의 복강경하 상부 위절제술 3례 경험

        Background : The reported incidence of early gastric cancer located in the upper portion of the stomach has been increasing with the recent advances in its diagnosis and screening. Recently, we have successfully performed laparoscopic assisted proximal gastrectomy and gastric tube reconstruction without pyloroplasty on three patients with early gastric carcinoma localized to the upper third of the stomach. We describe our modification of this procedure in this report. Method : After creating an surgical pneumoperitoneum, the stomach was mobilized using laparoscopic coagulating shears. Upper half of the greater curvature and three-quarters of the lesser curvature were then dissected along with regoinal D2 lymphadenectomy. This was followed by a 5 cm, longitudinal mini-laparotomy in the upper abdomen, and the construction of the exteriorized stomach with a gastric tube measuring 20 cm long and 4 cm wide. Reconstruction with an esophagogastrostomy was performed using a circular stapler. Result : No post-operative morbidity or mortality was observed in this small series of patients. The average operative time was 250 minutes (range 220-300 minutes), and the average blood loss was 150 ml (range 90-180 ml). The mean number of lymph nodes harvested during these laparoscopic proximal gastrectomies was 24 nodes (range 22-25 lymph nodes). The average postoperative hospital stays was 7.5 days (range 7-8 days). Conclusion : Our technique of laparoscopic assisted proximal gastrectomy and gastric tube reconstruction without phloroplasty offers a minimally invasive technique with the potential of impoving the post-operative quality of life patients with an early-stage proximal gastric cancer.

      • Propylthiouracil에 의한 중증 급성간염 1예

        PTU에 의한 간염의 발생은 매우 드물게 발생하는 것으로 알려져 있으나 저자들은 Graves씨 병으로 진단 받고 propylthiouracil 투여를 받고있던 환자에서 중증의 급성 간염이 발생한 1예를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. Propylthiouracil is widely used to treat patients with hyperthyroidism. This drug has been associated with severe hepatotoxicity rarely. We presented the case of jaundice and profound liver dysfunction from a 23-year old woman treated with propylthiouracil for hyperthyroidism. Viral, metabolic, and autoimmune liver disease could be excluded and liver biopsy revealed a pattern of acute hepatitis. After discontinuing the drug, there was a progressive resolution of hepatic symptoms and decrease in biochemical data of the liver. Despite propylthiouracil induced hepatitis in rare case, patients receiving propylthiouracil are exposed to develope severe hepatotoxicity. Therefore it might be advisable to monitor level of the transaminase on regular base from patients receiving propylthiouracil.

        하악골 절제술후 재이식된 돌결자가골 재이식 : 치험 3례

        We described three cases of immediate reimplantation of a frozen-thawed autogenous mandible composed of a mixture of iliac bone, marrow, and particulate hydroxyapatite in tumors of the mandible. Acceptable outcomes were obtained in three patients who underwent immediate autogenous mandibular graft reconstruction. The conditions leading to successful outcome of the procedure are also discussed. Reimplantation of frozen autogenous lesioned mandible was performed in three patients with mandibular tumors. Two reimplanted grafts survived without complications following surgery. One case had postoperative infection that resolved with appropriate antibiotic treatment. There were no recurrences of the primary lesions. Satisfactory facial contour after surgery was achieved. These results are most promising, and we believe that, with further refinement, this technique will offer a new and acceptable modality for facial reconstruction in patients with cancer.

      • Induced circular dichroism of disperse red dye in the self-assembled nanoparticles composed of poly (γ-benzyl L-glutamate) and poly (N-isoprophyl acrylamide) and its phase transition by temperature

        The core-shell type nanoparticles composed of poly ( r - benzyl L-glutamate) (PBLG) as hydrophobic part and poly (N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAAm) or poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) as hydrophilic one were prepared by diafiltration method. The disperse red(DR) dyes in the α-helical PBLG core of the GE and GN nanoparticles were self-associated with H-aggregates. The CD of DR in the nanoparticles was induced by chiral microenvironment of PBLG core and affected by the temperature accompanying the orientation change of DR,s, The interaction between excited state of DRs in GE or GN nanoparticles gave an induced circular dichroism(ICD) curve centered at 400 nm which coincided with the λmax in the UV region of DR. In contrast to DRs in the GE nanoparticles, DRs in the GN nanoparticle exhibited a reversible ICD peak and order-disorder phase transition with temperature changes due to the conformational change of PNIPAAm chain from expanded type to compact one above LCST of PNIPAAm.

      • Novel core-shell type thermo-sensitive nanoparticles composed of poly(γ-benzyl L-glutamate) as the core and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) as the shell

        AB diblock copolymers consisting of PBLG as the hydrophobic part and PNlPAAm as the hydrophilic one were prepared by polymerization of BLG-NCA with semitelechelic PNIPAAm with amino end group as initiator. The core-shell type nanoparticles of the block copolymers were obtained by the diafiltration method. The sizes of the nanoparticles were from about 73 to 359 nm and the shapes of them were spherical. The release for indomethacin (IN) from the nanoparticles was faster at 28℃ than at 34℃ due to the conformational change of PNIPAAm by temperature.
