This paper introduces the ozone-eating radiator that reduces ambient ground level ozone. This system involves placing a catalytic coating on tile car's radiator. As ozone passes over the radiator, the catalyst converts the ozone into oxygen. Air flow rate at frontal radiator was also measured. Ozone conversion efficiencies of coating with different mileage accumulated radiators were measured. From these measurements, DF (Deterioration Factor) was calculated.

Thermal analyses of the surface layer of a gray cast iron irradiated with high-energy electron beam have been studied. In order to investigate the complex microstructures which were composed of plate martensite, retained austenite, ledeburite, and flake graphite, the thermal analysis using a heat-transfer model and the simulation test including thermal cycles of abrupt heating and quenching were carried out. The results indicated that the irradiated surface was heated up to the austenite temperature region and then quenched to room temperature, which was enough to obtain surface hardening through martensitic transformation. When the surface temperature reached the melting temperature, the ledeburite eutectic structure was formed. The thermal analysis data matched well with the microstructures of the thermally simulated specimens, confirming that the thermal analysis is quite useful for the microstructural analysis of the surface layers irradiated with high-energy electron beam.

The present study is concerned with nucleation and growth of α phase during heat treatment in TiAl-Mo-Mn intermetallic alloy processed by hot extrusion of elemental powders. TEM and X-ray diffraction analysis show that the microstructure of as-hot extruded alloy consists of γ, α2 and B2 phases. The volume fraction of α2 and B2 phases are 16% and 20%, respectively. It shows that the B2 phase which contain significant amount of Mo have orientation relationship with γplates inside them. Microstructural evolution during heat treatment reveals that the α2 phase nucleates and grows in lamellar form by edgewise and sidewise mechanism. Edgewise growth of α2 phase is more rapid than the sidewise growth due to the coherent interface between α2 and γ phases along the sidewise direction, Sidewise growth of α2 phase occurs by ledge mechanism. It has been shown that the α phase nucleates in γ plates located at thy lamellar boundaries and grows along the direction which can make incoherent interface. γphase present in the B2 phase affects the growth of α phase by providing the preferential site for a growth.

White smoke from the diesel vehicles with DPF using high sulfur fuel (> 50 ppm) are not being selling up to now. The emerging markets like BRIC’s are using quite stringent emission regulations like EU4 and EU5. But their fuel qualities are not higher than their emission regulation. Their poor fuel qualities are preventing car makers from using DPF system to reduce particulate matter. To prevent emitting white smoke and meet EU4 and EU5 emission regulation with DPF in these countries that have poor fuel quality, DOC+DPF system that suppresses white smoke was newly developed. Based on this development, DOC+DPF system that meets Chinese emission regulation like KUK 4 and KUK 5 or India emission regulation like BS4 and BS5 were developed and the mechanism of white smoke was also investigated. By applying this white smoke suppression system, diesel vehicle with DPF can be sold in BRIC’s market. Therefore it is expected that this DOC+DPF that suppresses white smoke can contribute to increasing sales of diesel vehicles in BRIC’s market a lot.
