The present study is concerned with microstructural analyses of the surface layer of a ductile cast iron (DCI) roll modified by irradiation of high-energy electron beam. DCI roll specimens were irradiated using an electron accelerator, and the microstructures of the irradiated surface layers were examined. As a result of irradiation, the matrix phase was changed from banite to a mixture of retained austenite and martensite, and coarse spheroidal graphites were dissolved partially under the higher heat input. The microstructural modification by the irradiation improved greatly the hardness of surface layer because of the martensitic matrix, although retained austenite was presented around the spheroidal graphite. In order to investigate the transformation mechanism, the simulation test including thermal cycles of abrupt heating and quenching was carried out. Thermal analysis of the irradiated surface layer was also carried out for understanding of microstructural modification in terms of the irradiation parameters.

During sintering of Al-4w/oCu powder compact with 20% porosity at 600℃, a liquid eutectic alloy (Al-33.2w/oCu) of copper and aluminum formed, penetrated between alumimum particles, and was dispersed aluminum flakes on the skin of aluminum particles. And then copper atoms of eutectic alloy diffused aluminum to from solid solution of aluminum and formed dispersed CuAl₂O ₄to react to diffused oxygen atoms from aluminum flakes. This dispersed CuAl₂O ₄strengthened bonding of aluminum particles.

How and to what extent did both transnational activist networks and Japanese conservative forces affect Japanese historical narrative and textbook policy during the period of 1995–2010? Addressing this question, this article first establishes the concepts of Type I and II transnational activism regarding history textbooks. The article argues that starting in the late 1990s, a positive trend of Japanese historical narrative and textbook policy was reversed by a systematic conservative campaign, despite the presence of strong Type I and II transnational activism. Nevertheless, Type I transnational activism – pushing for a perpetrator state to change its policy – played a pivotal role in lowering the adoption rate of Japan’s nationalistic history textbooks at the local level, although not reversing the conservative direction of Japan’s historical narrative and textbook policy at the state level. In the long run, with vibrant Type I transnational activism it would be necessary to strengthen Type II transnational activism – textbook cooperation and historians’ dialogue – in order to resolve the issue of biased Japanese historical textbooks.

The cell free extracts of streptomycin producers, 7 strains of S. griseus and 1 strain of S. galbus inactivate streptomycin by phosphorylation, and the resistant mechanism against streptomycin by phosphorylation seems to be popular in streptomycin producing organisms. The cell free extracts of neomycin and paromomycin producers, S. fradiae and S. rimosus forma paromomycinus inactivate neomycin not only by phosphorylation, but also by acetylation. The cell free extract of a kanamycin producer. S. kanamyceticus (IFO 13414) inactivates neomycin by phosphorylation and/or by acetylation. However it does not inactivate kanamycin by phosphorylation but does by acetylation. The cell free extracts of the other kanamycin producer, S. kanamyceticus (NRRL 2535) does not show any inactivation of neomycin as well as kanamycin by phosphorylation or by acetylation, although it shows strong resisance against the antibiotics. The cell free extracts of Micromonospora spp.. producers of gentamicin or sisomicin which show resistance against gentamicin, kanamycin and tobramycin do not possess any phosphorylating or acetylating enzymes for the aminoglycoside antibiotics employed in this study. The Streptomycetes producing aminoglycoside antibiotics seem to have characteristic resistance mechanisms against the antibiotics produced by themselves and against other similar antibiotics.
