Since the emergence of neonatal infant orthodontics for treatments of cleft lip and palate with or without Robin sequence (RS) in Europe in the 1950s, advancements in design and scope of its application have been remarkable. As the first institution to adopt orthodontic airway plate (OAP) treatment in the United States in 2019, we saw a need for innovation of the original design to streamline the most labor-intensive and time-consuming aspects of OAP utilization. A solution is introduced using a systematic split expansion mechanism to re-size the OAP periodically to accommodate the neonate’s maxillary growth. To date, seven RS patients have received this modified treatment protocol at our institution. Each patient completed full treatment using only one OAP. This innovative utilization method is aptly named the split orthodontic airway plate (S-OAP). Details of the S-OAP and its modifications from conventional OAP are reported.
Novel Findings of Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy via Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography

Purpose: To introduce novel findings of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) via optical coherence tomographyangiography (OCTA)Methods: This study is a retrospective chart review of 16 patients (16 eyes) with PCV. OCTA (Avanti RTVue XR)findings were evaluated and selected for analysis after agreement by two retina specialists . Results: Twenty one polyps in 16 eyes (16 patients) with PCV were included in this study. The mean patientage was 67 years (13 men and three women). The shape of polypoidal lesions on OCTA at initial were halo(five polyps), rosette (seven polyps), and vascular network (nine polyps). Eight months after anti-vascular endothelialgrowth factor treatment, in a total of four eyes, seven polyps could be followed up completely, thetwo halo type polypoidal lesions changed to rosette and vascular network type. The lesions of three rosetteand two vascular network type lesions did not change in shape. In addition, the size of the polypoidal lesions(one among two halo types, two among three rosette types, and two among two vascular network types) decreased,but one halo type did not change and one rosette type increased in size on OCTA. Conclusions: En-face OCTA enabled us to categorize novel types of PCV with polypoidal lesions.
탄도충격을 받은 2층 육성용접 장갑판재의 균열생성 및 전파거동 연구

The objective of this study is to investigate microstructural characteristics of a two-layer hardfaced armor plate after ballistic impact. In order to deaelop the newly-designed armor plate, high hardness, hypereutectic high Cr white iron and ductile SUS 309 stainless steel were hardfaced nn an HY l00 steel plate using self-shielding flux cored arc welding method. This hardfaced plate was ballistically impacted, and metallurgical observations of the area near the perforated region were conducted. The high Cr white iron hardfaced layer was obseved to block effectively a fast traveling prajectile, although microcracks were initiated at coarse primary carbides of the high Cr hardfaced layer, and propagated to form longer cracks However, very few cracks were found in the stainless steel hardfaced layer, which tended to hinder the propagating crack. These foundings suggest that ballistic performance of the multi-layered armor plates fabricated by hardfacing technique might be improved.

Objective: To evaluate the overall treatment effects in terms of the amount of uprighting with changes in the sagittal and vertical positions of mandibular molars after applying an orthodontic miniplate with a nickel-titanium (NiTi) reverse curve arch wire (biocreative reverse curve [BRC] system). Methods: A total of 30 female patients (mean age, 25.99 ± 8.96 years) were treated with the BRC system (mean BRC time, 10.3 ± 4.07 months). An I-shaped C-tube miniplate (Jin Biomed) was placed at the labial aspect for the alveolar bone of the mandibular incisors. A 0.017 × 0.025-inch NiTi reverse curve arch wire was engaged at the C-tube mini-plate anteriorly and the first and second premolars and molars posteriorly in the mandibular arch. Pre- and post-BRC lateral cephalograms were analyzed. A paired t-test was used to analyze the treatment effects of BRC. Results: The mandibular second molars were intrusively uprighted successfully by the BRC system. Distal uprighting with a controlled vertical dimension was noted on the first molars when they remained engaged in the BRC and the distal ends of the arch wire were laid on the second molars. The mandibular first and second premolars showed a slight extrusion. The changes in the mandibular incisors were unremarkable, while the mandibular molar angulation improved significantly. The lower occlusal plane rotated counterclockwise (MP-LOP: 1.13° ± 2.60°). Conclusions: The BRC system can provide very effective molar uprighting without compromising the position of the mandibular anterior teeth.

Cancer, which is expressed in various forms, is one of the leading causes of human death. Soamsan (SAS) is composed of ten medicinal herb, the prescription was made according to the principles of Oriental traditional medicine based on the concept of synergic effects and interaction of among the components. SAS has been used for the cancer therapy, but the mechanism of it's effect is not well known. In the present study, the cytotoxic effect of the SAS water extract on cancer cell lines was investigated by the method of MTT in A549 cell lines and the anti-angiogenic effect was shown in the assay of chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) and in the cornea of rat administerd orally with SAS water extraction. The viability of A549 cell lines was not affected by the whole extract of SAS but the n-Hexan fraction of SAS water extract showed strong cytotoxicity which was not seemed to be done by the apoptotic mechanism. SAS water extract showed inhibition effects of angiogenesis induced in the cornea of rat and CAM assay. As the above results, it is suggested that SAS can be a candidate for new prescription for cancer therapy.
