        The objective of a ocean outfall is to discharge wastewater such that detrimental effects to the receiving water are minimal. To design an outfall that achieves this requires understanding of a wide variety of topics in environmental hydraulics. These include the dynamics of merging turbulent jets and plumeflowing, density-stratified receiving water and their mixing and dilution; and coastal oceanography. Internal hydraulics problems are also involved, especially the dynamics of branching manifold flows and the more complex stratified flows which arise with deep tunneled outfalls. In this paper, field and laboratory studies of the behavior using three data sets(e.g., Boston, Sanfrancisco, and Sand Island) were predicated by CORMIX for minimum dilution, the height to top of wastefield, and wastefield thickness.

        Osteoprotective Effects of Polysaccharide-Enriched Hizikia fusiforme Processing Byproduct In Vitro and In Vivo Models

        The traditional manufacturing method used to produce goods from Hizikia fusiforme, utilizes extraction steps with hot water. The byproduct (of hot water extraction) is rich in polysaccharide and is considered a waste. To evaluate the osteogenic effects of the byproduct of H. fusiforme (HFB), osteogenic cells and animal models were used to test it effects on osteogenesis. The HFB-treated mouse myoblast C2C12 cells exhibited significant dose dependently elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and slightly increased bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2). HFB also suppressed the formation of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) activity and TRAP staining in the bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMM) cells that had been stimulated with the receptor activator of the nuclear factor kB ligand/macrophage colony-stimulating factor kB ligand. In addition, HFB also increased the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (p-ERK) level. Finally, osteogenic effects of HFB were clearly confirmed in the three in vivo models: zebrafish, ovariectomized mice, and mouse calvarial bones. HFB accelerated the rate of skeletal development in zebrafish and prevented much of the mouse femoral bone density loss of ovariectomized mice. Moreover, HFB enhanced woven bone formation over the periosteum of mouse calvarial bones. Our result showed that HFB functions as a bone resorption inhibitor as well as an activator of bone formation in vivo and in osteogenic in vitro cell systems.

      • 뇌간종양에 대한 감마나이프 방사선 수술

        1994년 10월부터 1998년 6월까지 인제대학교 부산백병원 신경외과에 입원하여 뇌간종양으로 감마나이프방사선 수술을 시행하였던 10예를 대상으로 임상 분석을 시행하였다. The brainstem tumor may cause serious, sometimes lethal, neurological deficits. Therapy and control of brainstem tumor should avoid injury to the brainstem. Gamma Knife radiosurgery can deliver a high radiation dose precisely to a target with minimum damage outside the target area, an improvement in local growth control of tumors located in brain stem may be expected without adverse effects. Ten brainstem tumor patients underwent Gamma Knife radiosurgery. 7 cases were pontomedullary tumors and others were midbrain tumor. 8 cases were focal tumors, 2 cases were diffuse tumor. The mean marginal doses were 10.8Gy. After mean follow-up of 18.5 months, 4 cases were decreased in size, 4 cases were stationary, 2cases were increased. Gamma Knife radiosurgery was effective in local growth control of brainstem tumors without producing side effects. Longer follow-up intervals will be needed to assess the long-term effectiveness of the technique. Sometimes, an alternative treatment design, such as fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery, will be required.

        유로만곡부의 횡방향 하상경사에 관한 연구

        평균수심을 고려하여 유도된 만곡부의 횡단면형은 횡방향 하상경사가 0.1보다 클 때 선형관계식은 내측안에서 0 혹은 부(-)수심을 갖고, 지수관계식은 횡단면의 외측안에서 과도한 수심을 갖게 되어 비정상적인 하상형을 나타내므로, 두 관계식을 이용하여 실제하천에 적용할 수 있는 식을 제시하기 위하여 외측안은 선형관계식을 내측안은 지수관계식을 적용하여 횡방향 하상형에 관한 새로운 식을 제시하였다. 또한 위상지체 및 폭-수심비의 영향을 고려한 횡방향 하상경사를 구할 수 있는 새로운 방법을 제시하였다. 본 모형을 시용하여 실험실수로 및 자연수로부터 실측자료를 분석한 결과, 제시된 식에 의하여 계산된 값은 실측값과 비교적 잘 일치하였다. When the transverse bed slope ($S_t$) in channel bend is more than 0.1, it may produce undesirable results on the bed topography of the cross section. The linear relationship for $S_t$ results in zero or negative flow depths at the shallow $S_t$de of the cross section (i.e., inner bank). The exponential relationship for $S_t$ results in excessive flow depths at the deep side of the cross section (i.e., outer bank). This problem can be solved by combining the best features of both relationships described above. From the study, the linear relationship can be applied for the deep $S_t$de of the cross section. But the exponential relationship is suitable for the shallow side. Therefore, the new relationship of $S_t$ is clarified mathematically. A new mathematical model for bed topography is developed herein which takes accounts of the phase lag and the influence of the width to depth ratio. This model is used to analyze two sets of data: one from laboratory channel and the other from natural channel. A good agreement is found between the observed and the calculated bed topography based on the analysis of two sets of data.

        The stochastic structures of water quality time series were examined. These time series include daily observations in streamflow, water temperature, BOD, and dissolved oxygen deficit. Autoregressive integrated moving average(ARIMA) models were used to describe the random components of these time series. It was found that except for the BOD the Arima models could provide very satisfactory results.

      • 두개강내 동맥류에 대한 삼차원적 경두개 DOPPLER의 임상적 적용

        1990년 6월부터 1991년 5월까지 1년간 뇌동맥류 파열로 인한 뇌지주막하 출혈로 본원 신경외과에 입원하여 조기수술 시행한 52례를 대상으로 중대뇌동맥, 전대뇌동맥 및 후대뇌동맥의 평균 혈류속도를 경두개 도플러 초음파 검사법을 이용하여 측정하였다. Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography makes it possible to measure, nontraumatically and repeatedly, the changes in blood flow velocity that occur with vasospasm. The clinical material for this study consists of 67 consecutive patients with ruptured aneurysm who were operated on early from June 1990 through May 1991. But in 15 cases, satisfactory transcranial Doppler signals were not recorded. So in 52 cases, the mean flow velocities of middle cerebral arteries, anterior cerebral arteries and posterior cerebral arteries were measured with a noninvasive 3 dimensional transcranial Doppler sonography method at least every third day. Most patients followed for 1 month. To prevent symptomatic vasospasm, Nimodipine was intravenously infused in doses of 2mg/hour for 2 weeks. In cases of good clinical conditions or thin subarachnoid hemorrhage, the mean flow velocities of the MCA's increased moderately whereas, with poor clinical conditions or thick subarachnoid clots, there was a faster and higher increase of mean flow velocities. A steep early increase of the flow velocities of the MCA's foreboded a high chance of delayed ischemia. The ipsilateral side of ruptured aneurysm showed higher flow velocltes than did the contra-lateral side. The degree of increase of flow velocities correlated well with the severity of neurological deficits due to vasospasm. The measurement of flow velocities in the large branches of the circle of Willis on patients with aneurysmal subarchnoid hemorrhage was thought helpful to foresee the clinical course of patients.
